    Hi Phil,
    I’ve just picked up a hotbox to add to the set up, how quickly do they take to heat up the water from cold? Any info would be great
    Thanks

    Does this not affect the roof tiles in some way?

    • @phexteriorcleaningservices
      @phexteriorcleaningservices  Год назад

      All roof cleans are subject to a prior site visit to determine the best approach for the specific tile and location. These tiles were brilliant for a steam clean. Some aren't of course. Please see some of the other videos where this is explained a bit more - with different approaches. Hope that helps. Paul

    Great video. Is the steam as efficient as using the jet wash ?

    • @phexteriorcleaningservices
      @phexteriorcleaningservices  2 года назад

      I have found that steam allows me to get more of the lichen off at a lower pressure. So I think sometimes - there’s a balancing act between steam and pressure for the benefit of the tile👍

    Why steam over just pressure washing it like ive seen in other videos?

    • @phexteriorcleaningservices
      @phexteriorcleaningservices  10 месяцев назад +1

      Sometimes a customer wants all of the white lichen removed from a roof not just the moss. To do this with cold water under pressure can unduly wear the grain off a tile. Using steam allows for 99% removal of white lichen without the undue wear on the tile. This is a choice the customer has. In my opinion, removing the moss is the main objective whilst maintaining the integrity of the tile. So customer choice. Hope that helps.

      @@phexteriorcleaningservices ahh ok thanks, I was thinking of starting a small side business spraying driveways and maybe give this a try later down the line, I make and install corian worktops but it's so quiet and want to try something different after 17 years of it. I'm guessing the gear isn't cheap though

    • @phexteriorcleaningservices
      @phexteriorcleaningservices  10 месяцев назад

      @@harryhoudini4365 not cheap at all. I would suggest starting with a 21 lpm pressure washer and flat surface cleaner to do driveways first. Then, once you are competent with that, move on to roof cleaning. It would take a year of driveway experience first.

      Hey Paul what are the white circles on the tiles after it's steamed? Is that engraved into them

    • @phexteriorcleaningservices

      @@tinobyrne9016 white lichen. Does not always come off with low pressure. Biocide will kill it and after weathering, it will wear away.

    What sort of price do you put on a job like that mate ballpark. I'm in Australia we mainly soft wash

    Great work and nice to see a hot box. I assume the last bits of lichens would come off with biocide? It's a bit worrying seeing you work from a ladder especially if your 'helper' is an employee! I know you are more than capable of working off a ladder but is it worth the risk?

    • @phexteriorcleaningservices
      @phexteriorcleaningservices  2 года назад +1

      Generally I use a Mi Tower as you are probably aware. There were areas of this job, after my conducting a site survey, that I felt confident with the use of a heavy duty T Bar ladder. Judgement call I guess. By the way - I really appreciate your comments as I have found them always to be very specific. Helps me reflect as well. 😊 Just checked the video and I notice we used the smaller “T bar less” ladder at the front which on reflection we will not use again.

      @@phexteriorcleaningservices I do enjoy your vids and always learn something from them, thanks. I do worry a bit too much on h&s sorry :-) I guessed that the tower wouldn't be useable on some bits of that house.
      Keep up the great vids.

      Nice🎉. Just wondering what sort of criteria you use to decide to use steam, cold water or scraping and chemicals? I read that some people think steam is not necessary. But I’m thinking maybe you can run at lower pressure with steam? And perhaps you don’t need to finish with biocide because is kills lichen etc? Thank you

    This seems to be a very effective method but couldn’t the same results be achieved by using a 3-5% mix of SH on the roof with a hot water rinse? Seems like a lot of labor hrs to clean that roof as much as you did amazing transformation nevertheless.🤙🏽

    • @phexteriorcleaningservices
      @phexteriorcleaningservices  8 месяцев назад +1

      It had white lichen and lots of moss on one side. Hot water rinse would not have been quicker and not as thorough. This was in the middle of a village and led to six other roof jobs.

    Hi Paul,
    in your commentary you stated about tile type and temperature. is there a guide to this and where could i find it please. as this would be an expensive way to learn on the job. regards rob

    • @phexteriorcleaningservices
      @phexteriorcleaningservices  Год назад +1

      Hi Robert. There is not a guide on this that I am aware of. If you watch the video where we scrape the roof and soft wash it as the tiles are delicate - hopefully it will come across that through experience and site surveys PRIOR to estimating, you can determine the best approach to a clean. The very latest video I put up about the PA Nozzle is an example of the site visit determining my approach. I could have scraped this roof as there wasn't much moss of it just lots of black and white algae. The neighbours had theirs down by someone else the year before and the white lichen was still abundant and distracting. Just knowing this tile is robust and not old - I was confident that the single PA nozzle would be the best approach. The customer gave me a five star review yesterday and was very happy that they don't have all the white lichen still on the roof. Sorry I have rambled on a bit. Hope it helps. Paul

      Good point Ben. I have now been PASMA certified along with CITB for Working Safely at Heights etc. This job was surveyed prior to the works and I made a judgement call on my approach. It worked out but I take your point about being safety conscious. :-)
