Harbor Freight Motorcycle Carrier as my Fat Tire bike rack

- Harbor Freight Motorcycle Carrier. My Fat Bike is a Sondors E-bike and it weighs around 60 lbs. I chose the Harbor Freight Motorcycle Carrier as my preferred method to haul my fat bike through using my tow hitch. A lot of bike carriers require that you lift your bike quite high to use the carrier. A heavy bike can make this a lot harder on a person. By using the Harbor Freight Motorcycle Carrier, I only have to lift the bike about 1.5 ft.
I made a few modifications to the carrier to make it perfect to haul my fat bike. The motorcycle carrier has aluminum cross members that can be moved or removed to custom fit your fat tire bike. If you need a fat tire bike rack, this may be a good option.
If you would like to support this channel. Here is a link to my Amazon Store. I recommend each product that I have placed in the store. I make a few pennies when you make a purchase and it's much appreciated. www.amazon.com...
I purchased an Ecells Monarch Crown Dual Motor AWD. It is a beast. No current carrier is available since it has a 52 " wheelbase, and front and back fenders. Weighs in at approx. 80 lbs. Very nicely redesigned which now works for my bike.
Got lucky today, at HF they had an open box rack for $83, then they applied the 20% off to the original price, and it cost a total of $71 bucks, happy camper, and now you explained how to modify the wheel wells, thanks for that info, useful.
Very nice!
I knew that would look bad ass on the back of the Adventure Van!
This works much better with fat tires than regular (e.g. 2.2") ebike tires. Narrow tires, especially the front, are not as secure when dropped into the frame.
Thxs bro just got mine. Now I know where to modify
Looks great, simplistic and inexpensive. Would be great if I could find one for 2 bikes .
I found the perfect solution some time after making this video. Watch this video I made ruclips.net/video/9BWwBG4x4BU/видео.html
Hey Steve, That is a pretty good setup you have for the bike. Fairly easy to load and then very secure with the straps......Gotta go catch up on a few new cat videos 😉.........Take care, Bluefin.
Don't make me tell Chris about your love of cat videos.
Great idea! Thanks so much for sharing!
This is a great video. I’m looking forward to trying this setup!
still a good idea! Now a good rack for an ebike is about 400 (Pandemic pricing) I ride alone, so I I only need to transport 1 bike...and I can alway bungy cord a chair on to the rack.
Nicely done!
I got the sondors mxs coming friday so I was looking at this rack too! nice video
This is my new rack, works better than Harbor Freight. ruclips.net/video/9BWwBG4x4BU/видео.html
You are the man!!!!! (Just like Arby’s had the meat)!!!!
Would like to see the ramp used.
This I can handle! I've not settled on a bike yet, in part because I need to know I can load it. This is so much more compact that the bike rack which I was afraid I'd be tripping over. It seems like it would even be possible to attach a scoop -- maybe like gutter material -- under each tire to provide weight support. Do you think there's a possibility of damaging the tire with the weight resting on two points of the tire? Appreciate your post.
No I doubt it would damage the tires. I have found another excellent bike rack and I made a video on my other channel. You can watch it here. ruclips.net/video/9BWwBG4x4BU/видео.html
@@SteveSherron I’ll take a look!
what width tires on your bike? I assume it doesn't scratch the rims or touch the rims at all? Thanks!
Great job Steve.
I'm looking at the Bakcou mule which is also a heavy bike.
Using your setup I'm wondering if a guy could lift the front wheel up into there first then the back wheel.
I'm 68 yrs old so a little worried about picking it up honestly.
Watch this video Thomas, ruclips.net/video/9BWwBG4x4BU/видео.html. This is on my other channel. Yes, with this other rack it's super easy to lift bike and set one wheel at a time when you put it on and when you take it off rack. Cuts the weight in half. My wife can do it with ease.
I can concur....My Rad Rover is a bitch to put on our bike rack, loving this option! Is it aluminum?
Hey MK. Half aluminum and half steel I'd say. Very sturdy. It is definitely not junk. Harbor freight did a nice job with this carrier. There are some things I'd change if I were designing but I took care of that with a hammer.
Good video. Is there a way to put two of these together so you can carry two bikes?
Check out this video I made on my other channel. Perfect for 2 bikes. ruclips.net/video/9BWwBG4x4BU/видео.html
Hi Steve. I know this is an old vid but hoping you'll see my question. I just got a Rad Rover and learned it doesn't fit the harbor freight rack. Thinking of doing a mod similar to yours but a little worried about structural integrity. Has your mod held up for the past two years? Any other lessons learned about the mod? Thanks!
Yes that's an older video. I currently use this awesome bike rack for my 2 fat tire e-bikes. amzn.to/3zW02Ba.
Here is a video I made about the rack. ruclips.net/video/9BWwBG4x4BU/видео.html
? Now in 2023 it’s $170 . Some reason yours looks shorter than the one I bought .
does anyone get stopped and ticketed using these racks because it covers the vehicle license plate. I want to get a rack or cargo carrier but not sure rules on these. Even small trailers are required to get registered / plates in my state. If I had an SUV or Truck that is raised up more, the license pate might not be covered but in my car it would.
Has never been an issue. A cop would have to be in a real foul mood to stop you for such an infraction.
I need to modify mine because I just found out my e-bike is too short to fit. How did you do that?
I modified the cross bars. You can take a chisel or a large flat head screwdriver and a hammer on knock the rivets off. Then take the hammer and tap the crossbars into place where you want them.
I did! Thank you so much for the video. It really helped a lot!!
i just received mine and I might do the same for the crossbar my city scrambler has a shorter wheelbase cant drop both tires in. By the way do you know where I can buy those security pins for adjustment? Mine didn't come with a single one! I tried contacting harbor freight so far no response...
You might can adjust the crossbar things to suit you. As they are, you can't move them because they are riveted. If you flip it over, you can take a small chisel or flathead screwdriver and a hammer and pop of the rivets. Then you can take a hammer and tap them and move them around to suit you. That's what I did. Harbor Freight should carry the pins, mine came in the box. I'd contact them.
@@SteveSherron thanks for the tips!
