1:57 You keep hitting vehicles until they start burning. After all in real life commanders don’t have text telling them what modules have been damaged.
Plus even if the Tank commander does know the tanks dead (he sees the crew jumped out for example) it's still a good idea to shot it, as it can still can be recovered and repaired to go back to battle, a burned up vehicle can not.
@@abdyblanco4870 they (the developers) have stated that fully modelled crew will be added in time thus you can better judge when a tank is knocked out by wheter the crew bail or not
@@thedungeondelver That's how it was since WW2. Knowing well that Germans are short on everything, tankers were encouraged to make double sure nothing is recoverable, both disabled enemy and abandoned friendly equipment would be lit up until on fire, and only then left behind. During Pacific campaign, Sherman tankers would finish off knocked out Japanese light tanks by hitting them with HE until turret fell off or got torn apart, because AP would go through cleanly without leaving visible signs of destruction.
I was a Loader on an M1A2 for a few months shy of four years. It's truly a beautiful machine and us tankers had total confidence in them. In Iraq our mission was primarily infantry support, usually in urban areas. The type of environment that offers bad guys the best opportunities for disabling armor But the amount of damage we were basically able to shrug off would doom just about any other tank in the world. On one particularly bad day we took half a dozen rocket hits (probably 7's) almost simultaneously. It was very uncomfortable for us inside but no serious injuries. The tank itself had a few pins sheared off from their blocks....but that was basically it.

That opening music and sound of the situation briefing words scrolling by..! Talk about perfectly channelling "M1 Tank Platoon 2"!! Very nice nod in tribute to that game!
Couple of doctrinal comments. The tank platoon from 1980 under DIV86 and AoE was two sections of two tanks, one led by the PLT LDR and one by the PLT SGT. Normally movement to contact involved bounding overwatch, where one section maintains overwatch from hull down positions as the other section moves forward. When the bounding section reaches a 1,000 yds or so beyond the overwatch section, it takes up overwatch positions and the other section bounds. One does not just charge into a situation. Second, the first thing an M60A3 TTS or M1 platoon does when fired on is pop smoke. The WP has no thermal sights or vision devices on AFVs. The M1s or M60A3 TTS MBTs use the smoke to block the WP units' vision and use their thermal sights to spot and kill enemy AFVs. Bradleys can do the same thing as can M901s. The final tactic is call down smoke on known or suspected enemy positions from the supporting 4.2" mortars in the M106A1s, blinding them.
In addition, when I was in W. Germany from 1980-83, the M113A1s were equipped with .50 MG mounts that could swing the M2HB over and mount the M47 Dragon ATGM launcher. The launcher's sight was a thermal unit. The Bundesheer modified their Marders to mount a Milan launcher at the commander's hatch. This gave the M113A1 and the Marder, which had image intensification vision systems, the ability to exploit smoke and other obscurants.
How the hell did that T-72 even SEE your allied tank from that range and through ALL those trees and bushes? I don't think their optics are nearly good enough to make that shot.
Nifty bit of History here. So, in the First Gulf War, when US Tank Forces were pushing across the Deserts, they would encounter light IFVs like the BMP. Firing quickly, the Abrams Crews would hit a BMP with an APFSDS and call it dead, when the round actually passed through with Minimal Damage, allowing the Vehicle to still be Combat Capable. Over-Penetration is now Trained for in Doctrine.
Liking the tech they work into the after action report letting you know what you hit & what you damaged & killed on the tank or apc internally. Compared to all the other tanks in this series you have played, the Abrams is light years ahead of them at this time assuming the modeling is accurate.
During Desert Storm, several Abrams were hit by enemy shells but didn't knock them out. I find it a bit odd that one was lost to a T-72. Also your initial intro said your mission was to clear the flank of NATO forces. That should have read Warsaw Pact forces. Why would an M-1 platoon be engaging other NATO units?
I can tell you, that this is NOT "M1 Tank Platoon 2". The graphic quality is too good, this can be easily notified by looking at the trees. Maybe it is some kind of ArmA 3 MOD? I didn't have played ArmA 3 a lot, thus it's just a guessing.
