If a Worth Gown can have janky stitches- my cosplay corset having a wonky stitch is FINE! Your videos just help me be kinder to myself when things go wrong with my sewing. 😊
I went back to school to get an art history with the intention of ending up in a museum SOMEHOW working with pre-20th century textiles and you know what? If I ever think to myself, "Yeah, I can take a day off and procrastinate on that assignment," I will come back to this video for a reminder that NO, I can't. This was incredible, thank you so much for sharing this! I cried. Seriously. ♥
If I'm being perfectly candid, my favorite part is seeing Nicole in a crocheted beret & seeing how it looks on a real, live human (and looking good). Because I just discovered how easy it is (for me, anyway) to crochet them, but I wasn't sure if it would look good.
The nice thing about knitting and crochet is that if you decide it is a failure, it can be unraveled to create something else, especially if it is a small project
Did EVERYONE get sick on this trip? Your sinus infection and Noelle's plague? Anyway, looks like you guys had a great time in the UK. When you listed the measurements of the Worth gown, I did the "couch TouchDown" dance and was, "That would fit ME!!!" It's nice to know that there are exitant pieces out there that fit big girls. Great content, per usual. Thank you.
Oh Abby, I love you so much. And Nicole. And Bernadette, and all the rest of you guys, too! You got me interested in historical fashion, history-bounding vintage clothing and all that, and since Mart this year I have been sowing my very first sowing projects now, mainly skirts and summer dresses. And yesterday I got invited to my first vintage costume party, "the golden 1920s", so I took a light blue cotton bed sheat, a white table cloth and some shiny golden polyester curtain with a white-light blue pattern on it and sowed a jacket and a dress. I almost took the thunder of the birthday girl that night... :D THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!
I always love seeing you folks go round the UK - partly as a kinda childish, 'OMG, I've been there!' thing, partly as an antidote to how jaded you can get with the fact that, 'oh yeah, my office is a listed building, we have some ancient antiques that people live in, there's a pot-plant in Kew Gardens (highly recommend) older than the US Constitution, all normal stuff' And yeah, we sort-of swallow the end of '-shire', so it's Les-ter-shuh, York-shuh, etc.
I was born in Stirling. I got really excited when they began the tapestry and went back several times to observe its construction. It's an amazing thing.
Leicestershire is now on my list of must see!!! It must be so incredible to get to look at the construction detail of the garments!!!🤤 I so need to get back to the UK I didn't get to spend enough time there last time! Ps I completely understand "it felt like my brain" 😅
@@AbbyCox And just anyone can go and look at them?!? This might be one good thing about my 2020 Scotland trip being canceled-we're planning to go again this coming summer so Leicestershire will be on the docket!
@@AbbyCox Do they have a museum for the non-official dress historians? I'd hate to waste their time as an amateur, but I'd love an excuse to see more of their collection!!
OMG I remember watching them remake the tapestries when I was there back in 2013! Nice to see the rebuild greying up a bit, it was such a stark contrast back then. Now I need to go back *sigh*
OMG you were like three streets away from my house in Edinburgh, and photoshooting in the park next to the school my children went to and played in almost every day for a decade. I hope you had a good time here
Fellow nerdy heart here. I LOVED seeing all you did! Those gowns, though. We were fortunate to go to the UK this summer and I basically just had a big dippy grin on my face the whole time. The architecture, the museums, any historical fashion I could take in...my happy place for sure!
Imagine my surprise when i saw a wee clip from Stirling Castle looking at Wallace’s Monument, and then it was Stirling Stirling Stirling. My home town, where I spent my formative years. And THEN you said it was your second visit. So chuffed. I laughed at your arrival and nearly heading down the pedestrian street.
Glad you guys had a great time in Scotland and Leicester! Excited to see part 2, that cruise was such a fun time and I’m eager for any opportunity to relive it lol
I was just in Scotland, a little over a month ago, and also had to go back to Stirling Castle after having visited when I studied abroad in college 15 years ago!! Scotland holds a very special place in my heart!! The Leicestershire Collection sounds absolutely amazing! What a treat!
Oh my goodness! You actually drove through the extremely tiny village of Newton where I grew up and my parents still live!!! I went to school in South Queensferry - I hope you loved my home area 🥰🥰🥰
I love Edinburgh castle. My friend and I spent about 2 hours wandering around the gardens one sunny July afternoon between tour guides. I still have a flower from one of the trees pressed in a journal; somehow, despite it having been 6 years, the flower is still as bright yellow as the day it was put in those pages.
I’m excited to see the second part. Me and my husband took a transatlantic cruise for our honeymoon back in 2018. The first few nights were super rocky but then it got a lot better. Hope you were able to get some sleep!
It was so fun seeing you have a whale of a time in Leicester, I live 15 minutes from the centre! When I saw in the title that you visited I had a "Why come to Leicester of all places?" moment, but seeing it from your point of view was really interesting ^^ Also 0/10 for the hotel room with no bathroom doors XD
So some of my favourite costubers were in my city, not 5 minutes from my house, and I missed you all! It looks like you all had fun. I hope you come back for another tour of Leicester one day!
That green outfit is exquisite! managing to look like it really belongs in another era, but also not costumey in the least 😍😍 please please please make the videos of the clothing in leicester available on youtube! I'm not likely to have the opurtunity to visit there any time soon and it would be a great resource for posterity
A fancy gown with a large hip measurement. Finally!! And now I’m mad I missed these collections when I was in Leicester. Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us, Abby❤
I grew up on 90s country, so I would be jamming right there with you!! And oh man, the bathroom in that hotel in Leicester! I Could Not deal with that when sharing with another person!! Solo, sure, whatever. But not with another person! Eeek!
that bathroom was something else, especially when I realized the wall was *not* load bearing, and they could have easily put in doors if they had brought the wall forward a few inches past the fireplace. Like...i just...🤦🏻♀️
Also, there were so many historic houses ( quite a few arts and craft style ones that would have suited your clothing era) you could have gone to see, I wish you could have stayed longer.
Still nor over you and Nicole being near my home in Edinburgh while I am working an hour away in Perth 🙃😅 Leicester looks lovely and is now on my list of places to go one day when I have time. Glad the first half of your trip was great!!
I'd love to see some of those archive pieces as separate videos if there are any you think are particularly interesting. The idea that all that footage is just hanging out on your hard drive is so tantalizing.
I'm going to vote that next spring you take at LEAST a week in those Leicester collections and to it off by a trip to Bath for Prior Attire's ball in Bath!! You rock Edwardian, but I'd love to see you in Regency, too!
Can't watch right now but I am excited. Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities on earth. I was accepted into a medieval history masters program at the University of Edinburgh but my funding fell through at the last minute. I hope to move there someday. New Orleans & Istanbul are too hot for me to live there. And there are currently some political issues with Turkey. Edinburgh & Seattle are perfect weather for me, but Seattle is currently in bad shape. Rapidly increasing cost of living along with crime & homelessness. There are literally places I used to feel safe at 2am that I now don't want to be at 2pm. But, it's still a beautiful city & in my top 4. Edinburgh is the one I'd most like to live in.
Glad you went to Stirling castle, it's one of the very best in my opinion. I lived in Stirling for most of a decade and loved it. Also a bit surreal to see footage of my old flat as you drove by it!
Yay! Glad you and Nicole had a great time (aside from getting poorly). Thank you for saying Leicestershire correctly. Hope you guys can make it to Wales some time. We our preservation of history is different, there is more of an emphasis on everyday/working class ❤️
My fav thing about Abby is whenever you realise you’re being filmed your brain just seems to go “on time to do a weird little dance then” and like same babe
Just want to add that hotels in the UK have gone all continental and either don't have doors or have clear glass now , apparently it lets in more light!
Thank you for sharing! I’ve always wanted to travel, but I’ve just managed to move and inch my way down the East coast of the US lol. I live vicariously through people better at planning and follow through
I spend a weekend in Edinburgh many years ago and it was pouring down rain the entire time. It's nice to see it on a sunny day. I visited the same castle, too. I'm excited for Part 2! I hope you didn't get seasick. Even thinking about being on a boat makes me queasy.
Looks like a great trip. And thank you for posting. It broke my hyperfocus and reminded me I have four thousand million things to do today. Cause all I did yesterday was like Grocery shopping, Eat, and sew.
You have my sympathy about the sinus infection. I used to suffer one nearly every year and they suuuuuuuck. I usually stayed in bed and felt like death. Having one on a trip sounds like absolute hell. Also, I think Mr. Fox is not long for this world. Loved the content and the scenes from England and Scotland. Want to visit them so bad. One day.

I loooove how they redid the castle to look as it did during James's reign!
