Here me out, I know it’s hard to not rescue our leaves when they seem stuck, I was so bad at it. However they will unfurl when they are ready. Sometimes they’re just taking their time. I stopped messing with mine and they always unfurl in their time and I don’t ruin or kill leaves anymore. Also, loving the hair! 💕

Thanks for all the great content, and congrats on 100k! I often watch at night while doing planty things.

.. You can buy a garden stick (a metal rod) and tie it to the back of your moss poles, that way they will be stable and keep the balance.. The garden sticks comes in different lengths.. It's just an idea 🤗
.. Don't worry about your painted lady.. Her colours on her leaves will come back with the better and brighter light now spring has arrived ☺️.. My own Lady doesn't look happy either during the darkness of November and December..

Omg SAME Fern with what you said about your campo! I feel like I've never heard other people with this opinion! I don't dislike bushy plants.. I just find them harder to care for or spot anything that goes amiss and I also just ignore them! I'm such a substrate girly too, I like to be able to actually see into the pot if that makes sense🤣 I also like to spot new growth and appreciate each individual leaf, so too many vines just aren't it for me! 1, 2, or maybe 3 is my sweet spot for how many starts I like going up my moss poles🤣

  • @ninarubi6034
    @ninarubi6034 Год назад +1

hey fern for freeing the leaves, what i do is i take small scissors and cut the cataphyl in half, in the space where it’s not touching the leaf (i hope that makes sense🙈). so that it’s not connected to the other half and therefor won’t bend anymore, also because it’s not connected to the plant it’ll dry up and then you can just peel it off🙃 hope that helps💚💚

I bought a roll of acetate cake collar (you can get them in different witdths), cut it to the correct length (pole length minus the part that grows into the pot).

Hey Fern, love it when you share your experiences, it really helps me to take care of my own plants. I use metal chicken wire to make my poles and it is more sturdy but its also tougher to work with when you're actually building the pole. Obviously wire cutters help but I would also recommend getting a good pair of thick gardening gloves as the metal gets pretty sharp after you cut it. I would also recommend that you are extra careful with attaching plants towards the 'back' of the pole (where the zipties are) because I've had plants get scratched by the sharp pieces. Sometimes I sand down the sharp pieces but I mostly just skip that step and handle with care.

I put my monstera on a wire moss pole. It was a bit more difficult to work with the metal, but it was a good decision to use it for monstera.i made it a bit taller than the plastic mesh. • @sunflowerhillhomesteadaust7887

Thanks for that, great to see what others are doing with moss poles, they are SUCH a great tool.
I totally agree with Campo, a very underrated plant.
I also feel the same about not overcrowding, I much prefer a single vine or maybe a couple, where the plant isn't just a mass of green stuff but visible for what it is. Here in Australia the 'bushy' plant thing isn't so much of a thing, you usually also just buy one actual plant per pot, not a heap jammed in together.
I also started with wire poles but have switched to the plastic garden mesh with 2cm wide gaps.
I switched largely because I hate working with wire, it's nasty and I run a small farm alone while homeschooling my kids, so am constantly using wire to fence large areas, to build things....its so hard on my hands, they're constantly scratched, cut and calloused, and I just didn't want it for my houseplants as well!
I love the soft stuff (though I perfer not to use plastic, but needs must lol!) and I like the bigger holes as well which I feel will be much easier to get roots free from when I'm using the poles for propagation (which i will be doing).
    Thanks, great video :)

For using a q-tip to unstick a leaf: Spray some water on the new leaf/cataphyll and also on the q-tip. Wait a minute or so, then slowly start pushing it from the bottom then lightly roll the q-tip on the cataphyll flap. By repeating this, I've rescued so many leafs this way and have never broken a leaf and has been the easiest and quickest way for me. I think the main trick is to continueously spray everything with water.

Mine shot up a pole and matured really fast (outside in Fl). The leaves are now 9” long and lost their Mican/ velvety look. I promise it is not as exciting large unless you have on a wall to go wild. Yours still looks so beautiful. I think you should just propagate and keep the lush pole. I want the pretty velvety baby leaves back so I’m going to cut mine up. I wonder if you lost something for yours because it is too perfect? 🤷‍♀️

I couldn't do moss poles, far too much effort, I'd dry out and die off for sure 😆🧡

I'm so invested in the sharoniae! 😆 super bummed that the chop video didn't come out. I got mine a couple of weeks after you, but it's not rooted into the pole yet and my first leaf is slowly coming about now. I repotted kinda twice though, so I'm sure that didn't help. New leaf is beautiful!

🌱 I have yet to place a plant on a moss pole, I have some in mind that would benefit 😅

Have you seen the sort of half cut pvc pipe moss poles? I first saw this done by kill this plant on RUclips. They certainly are not the most attractive but they seem like a great option! There is no mesh or anything like that for the roots to get tangled up in so it looks like if you were trying to remove/cut/adjust plant it would be VERY easy! It also seems like it may be easier to keep from drying out AND sooooo simple to extend

The entire top shelf of my milsbo was infested with spider mites, the only untouched plant was my Verrucosum somehow. I don't think they are as bad of spider mite magnets as people say

almost all moss poles are top heavy you just need a pot big enough to support the weight of the pole even though having a moss pole you rarely need to repot but you aren't reopting for the plant necessarily but for the pole when or if you extend it

Really enjoyed this content. I've made two "D" shaped moss poles with the metal flat front and plastic backs. They stay moist so much longer! The circle metal mesh are so much stronger tho and don't lean. I prefer the circle - even tho they need to be watered so frequently. I prefer the look of the circle, too - tho non-plant people have said they like the look of the "D" shaped. I have 4 sheets of plastic set aside - can't decide. Anyone else trying the D with plastic?

Put a PVC pipe in the middle of the column and make some small holes in the pipe. Pour the water into the PVC pipe. The water will slowly penetrate into the moss. The holes in the PVC pipe must be small, or the water will flow out immediately without being absorbed by the moss. Or if you put cotton thread through the holes, the water will be absorbed by the moss.

Please don’t cut up the philodendron camposport! Just take some cuttings off the wild vines and add them back in after rooted! Keep it thick that plant is beautiful!
