  • Today I am sharing how we finally found our 1796 Federal Colonial home, the house that waited for US. Before we chat, I also take you outside while I plant Garlic for the first time, and show you our Stone Walls. Fingers crossed we have garlic next year!

Thank you for telling us your story. I love New England but would never leave my children and grandchildren. For me, family is everything. My husband and I enjoy traveling and make New England one of our favorite places to visit. Wishing you the best!

I agree Jamie, family is everything. Our daughters living in New England was definitely one of the main reasons for moving here. Have a wonderful week! 😊

Hi Carla, We moved from Florida to the Alabama Coast. The first year we rented an old 1908 home. We almost bought the home but found out it was a termite palace. We loved the house and felt very much at home. However, my husband kept driving by an old Spanish Revival home. He remarked how much he loved it. It was not for sale. We kept searching and searching for homes next year. One day while searching for homes, I came across a home that I fell in love with. I said "sweetheart, look at this home! He said, "OMG this is the home that I have been driving by for the last year. We arranged for a viewing, we walked through the house and I stood in the kitchen and closed by eyes "I breathed a deep breath and with tears in my eyes, I said this is it! It feels right. Later, I stood in the house and felt a presence of a sweet spirit using a sewing machine. I loved hearing your video of your journey finding your "meant to be home"

Oh my gosh, I LOVE your Story...it was most certainly MEANT to be! Your house was waiting for you!! It's amazing how things can work out. My husband and I still talk about how everything just lined up in our move out here....it was definitely meant to be for us. We have lived here five years now with absolutely no regrets. Thank you for sharing and have a beautiful day!

Hello Carla, This cosy chat video was lovely, I believe from listening to you that you have a very sensitive & kind nature. The lady who owned the house before you I am sure rests easy knowing you & your clever husband ( who found the house) are taking care of it. I absolutely love NE, I love the old houses & the history that goes with them. I know you said not to give up on your dreams, but I am from the UK & I know my dream can’t come true. However, to share all the lovely places you take us, it would be nice to see all around the outside of your house & garden sometime. I am interested in the history & who lived in your house years gone by. Thank you again Carla I really enjoy listening & hearing your stories. 😊

You have an interesting story, and you have a lovely home and style. Mine is what I call "common sense primitive". The common sense of it is: no need to camouflage appliances, and not to pile it on too much. Also to incorporate family things (husband's ancestry is Scottish, mine, Welsh & Irish, German, and a surprise to me, DNA also revealed Swedish) So, we live with primitive antiques with touches of Scotland, and our four-season porch has touches of coastal and Sweden. In other words, the conglomeration that we are as humans, so goes our home.

I planted garlic only once about 5 years ago. I got my garlic from my barber who plants hundreds every year. Since I had never planted it before, he explained to me how it should be planted. When you put the garlic buds in the ground, he said, make sure the point is facing up. This is the stem as it grows. So when I planted the five garlic that he gave me, making 15 plants in all, I made sure the points were facing up. Well they all grew and when I pulled them out in late spring, I had 15 big garlic plants.

What a Beautiful story of finding your home. I built many homes in New England. My favorite was my saltbox in Pelham NH. I was raised in MA. Once I got married, we moved to NH. I raise my two girls in Hollis, NH. Lived there for 12 years then moved South. I love the South but my greatest memories with my family are from NH. You will love it there. Many blessings.

Love your story, so very heartwarming and sweet. If I was the person who sold you the house, I would be so happy to know that you and your husband are living there. You can tell that your house is so loved and cared for, and that you truly enjoy living there. 💕
As far as future videos, I would love to see what you have for a cleaning schedule, and what you do every day to keep your home maintained. I never feel like I have it all together even though I feel like I am constantly trying to stay on top of things. I know you said you had a cleaning business years ago and would love to know if you have any words of wisdom on how you keep your beautiful home maintained, which is very lovely, and cozy. Would also enjoy knowing what your favorite meals are that you make, and maybe meals your girls liked that you made them growing up. Anything related to home and family and the simple things in life are my favorites. 🌺
Take care, love watching your videos, till next time.💕

Thank you for your sweet words Margaret. Regarding a cleaning schedule, I do not have one. The only time I clean my house all at once is if I have Company coming to stay. LOL. I feel that I am constantly doing Laundry and I clean our bathroom weekly along with vacuum weekly. With only two of us here the house stays fairly clean. I have been shocked at how little dust this house gets because it is so old. My Husband says it's because we have radiant heat. My recommendation would be to do a little something every day and to try to stay on top of your Kitchen, also try to get into the habit of putting things back where they belong when you are done with them (something I need to work on). I think it's easier to do a little cleaning daily in lieu of cleaning a whole house. When I was Cleaning it would take me 3-4 hrs to do someone's house and that did not include the "picking up" they would do before I got there. I hope this helps a little. Have a beautiful week !!

As a child my family vacationed in moultonboro and many years later I built my home there and enjoyed living there for 12 years before moving to Oklahoma where I have been since 1982. I have never stopped yearning to return to my roots but really can’t afford to relocate at this stage in my life. I don’t regret my move to Oklahoma which was a result of my mother’s health. I always knew I did the right thing. Thank you for sharing your story. I look forward to following your journey. Warm regards.

We saw our home, which is also in New Hampshire, online when we were still living in California. We found to our delight that the house was still on the market when we arrived here several months later. We moved in, in August 2004 and love the house more than ever as we have made it our own inside and out. This year the house celebrates it's 250th year !
Doing family research I also found out that I had family here in New England in the 1600's for this Aussie transplant I was amazed, but then again I have always felt drawn to New England and never understood why till I found this family connection. Love your videos, thank you. Keep them up please!

In the spring, cut off the garlic scape when it curls so the bulb will have more energy to grow. You can make pesto with them. When the foliage tips start to turn brown, usually in July, time to harvest. Good luck ☘️
