if my story is over, i suppose i might as well write the epilogue and get it out of the way. here goes: havng attempted to distance himself throughout his life from feeling, and failed, he devoted the brief remainder of it, against all reasonable odds, to the revival ;of that effort, with hopelessly diminished energies. and when his death finally occurred, in an er,, both the locale and the circumstances were as frozen and disfigured as the life that had preceeded it.;.; fin
