I barely touched on anything related to this title's story. To everyone complaining about my spoiling the whole game or enemies or cutscenes. I haven't spoiled a single late-game enemy or boss. I've already watched other people's reviews, and some of those guys have actually shown spoiler enemies at the end of the game. When you do early reviews, you have to follow a series of guidelines to get approved. My video hasn't violated ANY of those guidelines. You haven't seen anything yet, trust me, please relax.
I've been pretty on the fence about this, I liked some of the gameplay in 7 but thought the story was crap an this just felt like more of that an I know it's blasphemy but the clear influence from 4 turns me off more. I ran from my real life vampire lady, and her fangs were only surgical. She did everything right. It's just that she did it before I was ready. And the woman I let seduce me instead, turned out to be the real monster. If I ever play this game, Ethan will die a thousand times to make it up to the universe.
I used to think the comparisons to discord moderators was unfair and thought they couldn't be *that* bad......then I saw them and yep, pretty accurate!
The factory setting/Heisenberg/constructed enemies near the end is a stand in for Dr. Frankenstein. We have vampires, werewolves, a creature from the black lagoon, animated dolls, and Frankenstein monsters. Shout out to all the classic monsters.
there were no vampires in the game.....Lady D wasn't a vampire, vampires don't walk around in the daylight and the files about her through the game tell you exactly why she's like that
Although Lady Dimitrescu’s castle and persona feel like a gigantic tribute to Count Dracula, I thought the vampiric vibes of Dimitrescu herself and her minions seemed downplayed, in terms of their specific mutations/abilities. Aside from having her claws be retractable and harvesting victims’ blood after killing them, she appears to behave and attack exactly like the already-established Tyrants. Even when she changes, her monstrous form seems to be based more on the namesake of a famous vampire, rather than a monstrous vampire woman. The fact that her “daughters” are these insect swarms, rather than mutated humans, feels like if we only had the Mimicry Marcus leech monsters and no actual zombified humans in RE. And the Moroaică themselves behave like the already-established zombies in prior games.

Also, the whole "pick a place just for the visual effect" thing isn't a first, the same thing happened with RE4 after all. I mean, I'd have loved to see my culture through an outsider perspective that actually did the research but the fact that I can say "that castle actually looks like places we have here!" is good enough. Did bug me that none of the names seen so far were specifically Romanian though. Felt kinda miffed, even if I do understand it's so the actors don't need a crash course in pronunciation before every session in the booth.
I really wish there was more of Lady Dimitrescu not because of her appearance but because of her mystique and general persona. I also wish there was more about the Bienvenuto lady.

I get why they didnt get much deeper into their characters, they whanted to keep the sections where you meet them relativly short, but as DLCs this would be amazing.
I wish Bienvenuto and Lady Demtriscu came after Moreau. They were both way more memorable and would’ve loved their sections to be longer especially Bienvenuto

This game is set in Romania, and as a romanian myself, I can say it does a good job representing how old villages from here look, it reminds me of visiting my grandparents, and from the inside the houses look like the ones I'd see in a folklore museum, I can see they put a lot of effort into researching, also being able to buy romanian food with our currency from a merchant in an RE game is just funny to me for some reason.
Thank God the euro adoption is going so badly in Romania that it's still realistic for a game set in 2021 to still be using the leu. Unlike RE4 where Spain was already using the euro instead of pesetas lol
I didn't know Sphere Hunter was doing an RE Village early review. As much as I love Skillup and ACG, Sphere Hunter is a master of the survival horror genre. Suzy has a great voice for narration. Honestly, I would listen to that woman read the dictionary.

They already stated they lowered the fear factor in this one because they had a lot of player feedback saying RE7 was too scary. Bunch of wankers. RE isn't even that scary, just spooky and disturbing at times. It's like going through one of those haunted house attractions.

It feels really strange to have played RE4 at 11 years old, and here I am at 27 playing Village and it almost feels like I'm playing 4 for the first time again, but as an adult.
Same that was the first resident evil i ever played was maybe 9 or 10. I am just as excited to play this as i did 4. Over the years have bought all the resident evil title games

It's funny because I actually liked the factory. Thought it was a nice change of pace, yet still pretty tense, and you got to see the results of Heisenberg's experimentation.
For real I'd say I was as scared as I'd been the whole game when I had to backtrack down to get the last key. Those drilly bois got me freaking out and it's the one time I was truly concerned about my ammo/resources.

Bruh the map is way too confusing imo I would like the factory if the key and ball mold making didn't require you to do 10 zigzags 6 stairs 50 confused map openings and 3 dead ends
Capcom really nailed it with Lady D's design. It would have been so easy for them to make her look like a cliché sexy vampire that it's impressive how much thought they put into her.
I got your Tetsuo The body hammer reference, and I totally saw it too. I kinda enjoyed fighting those enemies, they make you pick your shots more carefully. The Lycans all bumrush you so fighting them feels like frantic scrambling and little careful aiming. Lots to love about this title, I started a second play through immediately after finishing the game.
I found it weird that not even chris uses his sights in RE8. In 7 Ethan isn't trained so it makes sense that he doesn't use his sights but in the Not a Hero campaign Chris can use his sights. So I guess he just forgot what sights are between games.
Capcom really struck gold featuring Lady Demitriscu at such a perfect time when such characters are.... Admired. All the free advertising and marketing from all the memes.
@@arsenelupin9697, to be fair, the last few months have been a lot of fun seeing as the fan base has grown largely because of it. And if what Sphere Hunter says is true, those fans will stay for both tall vampire lady and the game itself.
About the tonal shift between areas (especially the factory) I saw these areas as their own horror movie: gothic horror with "vampires", modern "ghost" stories, creature-feature with the lake monster, and finally a very Saw-esque romp through the factory. Given the 1-1.5 hr runtime through each of these areas also gives me the 1 area = 1 movie vibe. So 6 hours for those sections plus another 2.5 to do all the side stuff as it came up took my total play time to about 8.5 hrs.
I always found it weird, and yet satisfying how Leon was able to do a round house kick on some Village Ganados and make their heads exploded. I felt like Chuck Norris taught him well. lol
A factory of seemingly thousands of cyborg soldiers just doesn't fit the rest of the game thematically - there was a way of doing Frankenstein in this game but going full Quake 2 - with a tank battle and everything - wasn't it imo
Man I loved the factory. You mentioned Tetsuo which is actually something that came to my mind a lot when going through that section and it made me want an entire game based off of industrial music and movies.
I understood the Tetsuo reference. And I love you for it. Been watching all of your RE videos since it's one of my favorite series. Keep bringing us more RE content, PLEASE.
@@WMNKK I'm at the point where the main character's heart gets broken (so more or less at the endgame) and I've honestly found Dimitrescu to be the least effective of the boss characters in this game. Outside her bossfight, which is admittedly pretty cool, she is just a less effective dumber version of Mr X and gets even upstaged on that front by her own daughters, who are more unpredictable and harder to outrun.
I CANNOT DISAGREE MORE with you about the Factory!! It’s one of the best areas in the game and the enemies are bad ass!! Super fun to fight and even scary and intense! So for anyone reading this, I know you guys LOVE SUZI and I do too! BUT don’t take her word for it that the factory sucks because it ABSOLUTELY DOESNT!! It’s fucking awesome!! You’ll see!!
So true man. I mean of course, she's entitled to her opinion, but nahhh, the factory was awesome. Super awesome enemies, intense and creepy, just an amazing area. It also definitely does fit in with the horror, it's a lot like Frankenstein, just as Dimitrescu gives Dracula vibes and whatnot.
This is literally what I’ve been saying all along lol theyre gonna use a lot of stuff from village in RE4remake...kinda like how the bolt cutters were just copied and pasted into RE2 and RE3 as was the RPD
@@pipeanp RE2 and RE3 takes place in the same city though, so it would make sense to reuse assets. RE8 and RE4 take place in different locations in Europe, Romania and Spain. Those two countries are about as far apart as you can get in Europe. Not saying Capcom won’t reuse assets, but you should consider the locations involved before making a definitive statement.
I actually liked the factory. I think it fit narratively with the story. Without spoiling the man person running it had different views than the leader and his area shows it. Also I love the Dr.Frankenstein feel it gives.
@@necromorph1109 The thing is the game is make or break in the opening hour. I wanted to stop playing it because I felt that it was just boring. Just stick with it till the castle though, it gets better then. If you don't like it then, you can always drop it. If you adored Re 7, sadly this game will feel like a massive let down. It isnt a horror game, and isnt scary at all. Much faster paced. If you enjoyed Re 4, good news, it is what Re 4 would be while retaining a lot of Re elements from the OG trilogy. Dare I say just like Re code veronica then? Puzzles are pretty dumb though, and straight forward. It isn't very open ended, and probably is more linear in how sometimes things go about. The enemies can be tough to deal with at first, but once you get the grip of the combat and their pattern of play, sadly the action takes the back seat, and they feel like fillers between each area (similar to how Re 7's enemies felt like, but there is thematic variety at least). However, the initial interaction will be quite frantic and panic inducing. Overall good experience, but not every fan will ,ike this.
this is hands down the best survival horror channel youtube has to offer, and i have to say it's gotten me through a very tough time. recently i replayed my teenage ps1 favorites RE1-3 and PE1-2 with this channel in the background, and it helped a lot after losing several important things. it was like getting to geek out about the highs and laugh at all of the lows with an old friend. thanks for putting in all of the hard work you do for this channel. every bit of blood, sweat, and bloody sweaty tears shows. keep on my friend.
I feel like Tyrant is the only that doesn’t do this, since any time he canonically catches Leon, he immediately goes for the kill, but some outside force always interrupts him.
Idk if anyone is aware, but the factory area along with the enemies in that area is definitely a nod to the movie “Frankenstein's Army”. I sorta disagree about how it felt out of place, there’s still that gothic horror feeling personally but Sphere’s reasoning is definitely for sure understandable. But as always, fantastic review!
I honestly found myself loving the factory area. I thought the design of the level was satisfying to play through, especially getting more floors for the elevator. It was definitely difficult to know where you were in the place though.
The lords are based off of old horror films like Dracula, Werewolf, Frankenstein, Witches, and Swamp Thing. The Frankenstein portion of the game you might not like as much but it still sticks wit its horror theme.

Im always impressed at your ability to capture the game's footage with such fidelity specially with RE engine games. 90% of the footage out there for RE Engine games is with the "broken" brightness calibration (which Capcom delivers by default and its meant to be displayed for HDR). Here you captured the HDR output with incredible fidelity and this is how the game should look.
16:51 ohhhh i sure as hell know what this part was. nearly threw me into a fucking panic attack man. i swear it took me like an hour to keep moving after i paused mutliple times. never died though, thankfully.
While the factory is apparently disappointing, that environment at 12:55 is peak industrial horror art design for me. You've got human corpses ferried on slaughter lines at an industrial scale high above a hellscape of smog, steel girders, and a lake of oil. Then the scene is framed by a colossal chain and backlit by a harsh artificial light that leaves the grisly details in shadows. I especially love how the rotating slaughter line on the right is shaped like a gear or water wheel. Kudos to the RE team that even when they apparently stumble, they can produce something that striking.

Maybe we'll get some RE7-style DLCs which further elaborate on characters and segments in the game. That would be pretty cool.

This game is set in Romania, and as a romanian myself, I can say it does a good job representing how old villages from here look, it reminds me of visiting my grandparents, and from the inside the houses look like the ones I'd see in a folklore museum, I can see they put a lot of effort into researching, also being able to buy romanian food with our currency from a merchant in an RE game is just funny to me for some reason.
Thank God the euro adoption is going so badly in Romania that it's still realistic for a game set in 2021 to still be using the leu. Unlike RE4 where Spain was already using the euro instead of pesetas lol

I didn't know Sphere Hunter was doing an RE Village early review. As much as I love Skillup and ACG, Sphere Hunter is a master of the survival horror genre. Suzy has a great voice for narration. Honestly, I would listen to that woman read the dictionary.

It's funny because I actually liked the factory. Thought it was a nice change of pace, yet still pretty tense, and you got to see the results of Heisenberg's experimentation.
For real I'd say I was as scared as I'd been the whole game when I had to backtrack down to get the last key. Those drilly bois got me freaking out and it's the one time I was truly concerned about my ammo/resources.
Also, Under the Mayo ironically found the factory to be the game’s one great map, in his opinion.
IMO the factory is alright. It's not the best area in the game, but it's definitely not the worst. It's just slow.

I got your Tetsuo The body hammer reference, and I totally saw it too. I kinda enjoyed fighting those enemies, they make you pick your shots more carefully. The Lycans all bumrush you so fighting them feels like frantic scrambling and little careful aiming. Lots to love about this title, I started a second play through immediately after finishing the game.

I found it weird that not even chris uses his sights in RE8. In 7 Ethan isn't trained so it makes sense that he doesn't use his sights but in the Not a Hero campaign Chris can use his sights. So I guess he just forgot what sights are between games.

About the tonal shift between areas (especially the factory) I saw these areas as their own horror movie: gothic horror with "vampires", modern "ghost" stories, creature-feature with the lake monster, and finally a very Saw-esque romp through the factory. Given the 1-1.5 hr runtime through each of these areas also gives me the 1 area = 1 movie vibe. So 6 hours for those sections plus another 2.5 to do all the side stuff as it came up took my total play time to about 8.5 hrs.
I always found it weird, and yet satisfying how Leon was able to do a round house kick on some Village Ganados and make their heads exploded. I felt like Chuck Norris taught him well. lol

@@WMNKK I'm at the point where the main character's heart gets broken (so more or less at the endgame) and I've honestly found Dimitrescu to be the least effective of the boss characters in this game. Outside her bossfight, which is admittedly pretty cool, she is just a less effective dumber version of Mr X and gets even upstaged on that front by her own daughters, who are more unpredictable and harder to outrun.
Village combines elements from RE4 and RE7 while fixing most of the issues I had with both of those games. I love it.
I can assure that the resident evil 4 elements you said are just coincidence between the concepts.
Like village is 90% RE7, the rest is completely new things. But yeah we have RE4 elements like the inventory and the collect/buy/sell/upgrade system

So true man. I mean of course, she's entitled to her opinion, but nahhh, the factory was awesome. Super awesome enemies, intense and creepy, just an amazing area. It also definitely does fit in with the horror, it's a lot like Frankenstein, just as Dimitrescu gives Dracula vibes and whatnot.

@@pipeanp RE2 and RE3 takes place in the same city though, so it would make sense to reuse assets. RE8 and RE4 take place in different locations in Europe, Romania and Spain. Those two countries are about as far apart as you can get in Europe. Not saying Capcom won’t reuse assets, but you should consider the locations involved before making a definitive statement.

I actually liked the factory. I think it fit narratively with the story. Without spoiling the man person running it had different views than the leader and his area shows it. Also I love the Dr.Frankenstein feel it gives.

The thing is the game is make or break in the opening hour. I wanted to stop playing it because I felt that it was just boring. Just stick with it till the castle though, it gets better then. If you don't like it then, you can always drop it.
If you adored Re 7, sadly this game will feel like a massive let down. It isnt a horror game, and isnt scary at all. Much faster paced. If you enjoyed Re 4, good news, it is what Re 4 would be while retaining a lot of Re elements from the OG trilogy. Dare I say just like Re code veronica then? Puzzles are pretty dumb though, and straight forward. It isn't very open ended, and probably is more linear in how sometimes things go about.
The enemies can be tough to deal with at first, but once you get the grip of the combat and their pattern of play, sadly the action takes the back seat, and they feel like fillers between each area (similar to how Re 7's enemies felt like, but there is thematic variety at least). However, the initial interaction will be quite frantic and panic inducing.
Overall good experience, but not every fan will ,ike this.

this is hands down the best survival horror channel youtube has to offer, and i have to say it's gotten me through a very tough time. recently i replayed my teenage ps1 favorites RE1-3 and PE1-2 with this channel in the background, and it helped a lot after losing several important things. it was like getting to geek out about the highs and laugh at all of the lows with an old friend. thanks for putting in all of the hard work you do for this channel. every bit of blood, sweat, and bloody sweaty tears shows. keep on my friend.

Idk if anyone is aware, but the factory area along with the enemies in that area is definitely a nod to the movie “Frankenstein's Army”. I sorta disagree about how it felt out of place, there’s still that gothic horror feeling personally but Sphere’s reasoning is definitely for sure understandable. But as always, fantastic review!

The boss was awful tbh....
I honestly found myself loving the factory area. I thought the design of the level was satisfying to play through, especially getting more floors for the elevator. It was definitely difficult to know where you were in the place though.
The factory is the only place in this game which requires planning your routes.

The lords are based off of old horror films like Dracula, Werewolf, Frankenstein, Witches, and Swamp Thing. The Frankenstein portion of the game you might not like as much but it still sticks wit its horror theme.

Tetsuo scared the absolute shit out of me as a kid. I am 37. My dad loved Japanese horror. I was introduced to that genre at a very young age. I got your reference, at least! :D
Im always impressed at your ability to capture the game's footage with such fidelity specially with RE engine games. 90% of the footage out there for RE Engine games is with the "broken" brightness calibration (which Capcom delivers by default and its meant to be displayed for HDR). Here you captured the HDR output with incredible fidelity and this is how the game should look.

The castle reminds me a lot of Castle Cainhurst from Bloodborne... the gargoyles are almost lifted exactly as they are.
While the factory is apparently disappointing, that environment at 12:55 is peak industrial horror art design for me. You've got human corpses ferried on slaughter lines at an industrial scale high above a hellscape of smog, steel girders, and a lake of oil. Then the scene is framed by a colossal chain and backlit by a harsh artificial light that leaves the grisly details in shadows. I especially love how the rotating slaughter line on the right is shaped like a gear or water wheel.
Kudos to the RE team that even when they apparently stumble, they can produce something that striking.

The Iron Man trilogy rules and has an AMAZING soundtrack. Pure 80s in-your-face industrial tunes.
I loved the factory personally. I was both afraid of who i was being chased by while cheering at how extra it got!
I actually like this game, the bosses were fun, the Village was cool, Each of the Lords’ areas were cool and the final boss is really good
So many youtubers are making me jealous that they get to play this game early and gamers like myself still have to wait a few days
