He then realized he was no longer human and decided to sacrifice himself point blank with that bomb.
Kind of glad because that opens up a future title to have Rosemary as the main. The BSAA are using bioweapon/zombie soldiers at the fight in the village so either they have gone as bad as umbrella or they have been taken over by someone.
Ethan is just the perfect tyrant umbrella wanted to make, looks like human, but body is durable AF

@@amierulfirdaus3305 Partially? Jack and Margeurite were _gone_ mentally, while Lucas was, uh... playing up an issue but otherwise sane, and Zoe was wholly aware of her situation. Although... none of them "died" before getting molded, so it was an eventual thing, if that makes sense? Also the first two were 'aware' on the inside but not on the outside. Ethan by comparison (apparently) full-on died that first encounter and thought otherwise, while also only 'kind of' being affected by Eveline's directives.

Well, not his clothes. If his coat was mold, it would've crumbled away like all the other mold-related creatures and objects, meanwhile Rose is seen wearing it as an adult or late teen. His sleeve somehow re-attaching alongside his arm is probably just an oversight.

Funny how the regular guy Ethan turned out to be potentially the strongest character in RE universe. He basically had the durability and regeneration abilities of a bioweapon while having his mind intact unlike Wesker or Krauser. With little to no training, he could single handedly beat the monsters Chris couldn't with a private army.
I love the concept of Ethan essentially being a heroic version of Wesker. If they ever decide to bring Wesker back, Ethan is the perfect person to bring him down.
his mind wasn't really entirely all there. he was slowly losing it. but he had the moral conviction to not be a dick about his powers. Some had their mind and the willpower to be a threat, but were total dicks.
While he is incredibly durable, I definitely wouldn’t put him above Chris or Leon. The only reason we can have a scary RE game like this is because Ethan isn’t overpowered. Leon’s out here killing 30 zombies charging at him with hand to hand combat while Chris is always packing the highest grade weaponry along with his steroided body. It really makes me sad that we can’t play as him anymore, he was a breath of fresh air when it comes to RE protagonists.

@@ericrahman7932 Ethan were long gone, got killed already at the beginning of VII, his body was infected and revived by the mold but Ethan's mind somewhat conquered the mold, thus he was basically a bioweapon without himself knowing it the whole time which explained how he can heal like wolverine.

Jack realized, probably for the first time in a long time, he and his family weren’t trapped. Ethan could save them all, end the nightmare they were force to live in, or at least put them out of their misery.
This explains why Jack kept saying "she's given us a gift" he wasn't speaking on behalf of his family but ethan aswell

You know after watching this man reattach his hand back to his body twice, I had a feeling that ripping out his heart still wasn't gonna do much. Ethan "I'll die when I see fit" Winters

Well has you said he "reattached" his hand, it didn't regenerate out of nowhere, so I guess his ability to regenerate is only when it come to reattach part of him that are missing, thus explaining why he never got those 3 fingers back on his left hand or why he didn't grow another heart after his got removed and crushed by Miranda. His regenerative abilities are limited but still strong enough to work in matters of seconds. He might have survived if Miranda only removed his heart without crushing it and that Ethan was abled to place it back in himself...
@@Skydrow91 makes sense why he has to use plant juice medicine to boost the reattachment process, it's a fungus after all. He can reattachment arms without the herb juice like when Zoe staples it back but that probably took a while to be functional again. Maybe like 15-20 mins before waking up to the Bakers inviting him to eat "Dinner".
So they pulled a lowkey Asura's Wrath: A Dad motivated to free his daughter even after being beaten up and killed they still kept going.

In terms of plot there is nothing new. It's just rehash of same thing in different format. The "oh that's so amazing or cool" factor is gone...

@@thequestion174 yeah that's true. the way I see it, the mainline sequels are for new players and the remakes are for us who's been there since day one.
This is actually one of the better plot twists The RE teams have come up with. Everyone joked about Ethan's ability to take a punch since RE7 since he started as a normal civilian and now we can see why. The RE team took the endurance of the previous games we all knew and used it as a Narrative Gameplay mechanic. We're so used to Chris, Jill, Leon and Claire taking a hit and healing with Spray or herbs because we've gotten used to the moments of ridiculousness in the RE plots. So they actually subverted our expectations rather brilliantly by using our past knowledge of previous games. It also explains part of Ethan's near obsession with his Daughter and the neglect he shows to himself when Mia confronts him about it in some of his memories. This honestly makes Ethan one of the most developed characters in the RE franchise and one of the most sympathetic to come.
It's not subverting expectations. It's just giving a reason for his endurance.

@@rodrigomateos6746 I call it subverting expectations because for anyone whose played the RE games we're used to the main character getting bitten or having a near death experience and brushing it off because we're used to it. The fact that they actually gave context to his endurance rather then being the protagonist subverts expectations from what we thought the story was going. Sure we all knew that him and Mia we're infected by the mold but we never considered Ethan had been a MOLDED since after Jack killed him after the prologue in RE7, we just thought he was knocked out.

I think zoe baker had something to do with Ethan being a mold. I mean in the begining of re7 after jack killed ethan, we briefly saw zoe patching him up and on top of that she was quite knowledgeable about the mold.
Well it cant accually be her as she stappled his hand back and if it were her than she wouldve been molded sooner so its most likely evelyn and mia since Mia knew from the start and Evelyn didn't want to kill him till the ending of the game

You know what would be fucked up? After Ethan died, imagine if duke came back to the village only to collect Ethans remains like "Perfect Crystal Ethan Winters" and was he was in fact the most expensive item in the game. That would explain why duke had always been there for Ethan for the entire game.
I don't think ethan will also crystalize. Only those that was infected with cadou can have crystal forms. Meanwhile, Ethan was infected with the mold. Like the bakers, he will simply calcify until he turn into dusts.
He was a strong mold character. Just like Jack Baker, he was just never pushed to a mutation form. And Miranda managed to tear out his heart so that basically put him on his last leg so to speak.
??? Jack did have a mutation form, though. That’s the reason why, when they originally had enough “cure” for both Zoe and Mia, one had to be used on him to stop him.
How he reformed _again_ to harass his little brother, I can’t speak to, but he _did_ get a mutation form.

'nothing'?? ethan had rose and mia to fight for, the entire premise of RE8 was ethan saving his family. basic and cliche but im sure Prototype had a vastly different theme, at the very least

And in just one fell swoop, Ethan Winters has now joined Arthur Morgan, Solid Snake, The Boss, John Marston and Cloud Strife as one of my favorite video game characters of all time.

@Mm mm Miranda had absolutely nothing to do with Ethan's ability to regenerate. He was already dying from the combination of all the damage he had sustained up until that point, and the fight with Miranda just overtaxed his regeneration beyond its breaking point. He'd have died sooner or later anyway. Her tearing out his heart like that seems to have been the straw that broke the camel's back. Their confrontation was just the icing on the cake.

Basically these new age Resident Evil (7/8/9) would provide the insight into the philosphical question about whether all the infected and clinically dead peoples we've been fighting against all this time could retain their free will or not. And whether or not bioweapon is alive.
It's more about the progression of the virus. The OG virus will absolutely take away free will and turn people into walking dead corpes. The new one however allow you to keep your will and personality

This game really shakes up the whole game franchise. Turns out that James Marcus, the Ashfords and Oswald E Spencer were just pawns on Mother Miranda's chessboard. She is literally the mother of everything that has happened in the game franchise.
Well miranda was more like the inspiration to spencer because she didnt give him the virus or something like she was more of a teacher to him and thanks to that spencer found the progenitor virus in africa and also got the idea to the logo of umbrella but its not like she literally created umbrella.
_Kinda?_ The analogy doesn't really fit. Mother Miranda was the origin point for these characters and what would happen, but they weren't exactly pawns to her, because she didn't care what they did after interacting with her. Eg. She met Spencer and he was inspired by her, but she didn't give a damn about what Spencer did afterwards with her inspiration.
Aside from RE8, her only role in _kinda_ orchestrating anything was creating Eveline, which she did help with, but lost all interest immediately once she realized Eveline was an imperfect host for her daughter. _(also worth stating that RE8 is entirely Miranda's doing. Chris confirms that "The Connections", the faction responsible for mismanaging Eveline and funding her creation, had zero involvement with anything in RE8)_
If you play Chris part, when you enter Miranda's lab, there are many notes, documents, and letters. You read all of those, and you'll find out the connection between Miranda with Spencer and Umbrella
Until it was revealed in RE-XII that Miranda is someone else's underling. Yeah...
They weren't her paws tho, she was just the inspiration for Spencer, as she never cared about what he did.
So Ethan basically got his head stomped in by Jack, the mold inherit his memories and personality, saved by Chris, then did the dirty with Mia who knew.
Well that explains how Ethan can put his limbs back together with apple juice, but I never really thought about it too much and shoved it aside as video game logic.
Well, I knew he was a superhuman when he can reattach his limbs. I just thought he was cured when Eveline was killed, removing his regeneration abilities in RE7.

As explained by the wiki and through the game when he was being dragged away by Jack he was dying in the mold took over and he basically became a super colony of mold sucks for him but at least it was still the same body just the mold kept him alive
He was still himself, he never lost control because the Mold was never able to rob him of who he was. It sounds cliche but his love for his wife in RE7, his love for his family between the time after RE7 and before RE8, his love for his daughter in RE8 is what defined his identity. And that's what imo makes him special.

no. the first aid liquid thingy in RE7 was a biochemical which helps instantly heal basically anything, the liquid makes cells regenerate. Infected ppl like Jack Baker already has these kind of biochemicals in his body when he was infected hence why he doesn't die and just keeps regenerating.

Agreed, he really comes off as a man that has no idea of what the crazy shit that's going on with him is, but he just knows that it's still happening. He is so believable and grounded enough that you can relate to him being both an average man and special with abilities all at once.

Amazing revelation. I really thought Ethan was done, but this just connects to RE7 like a puzzle. All the crap that Ethan went through - - to die "twice" to save his child, is amazing. I did not expect this level of story-telling from RE.

Ethan is basically GrayStillPlays with how many times he canonically dies and just keeps going. I love how they found an in-story way to to explain deaths and taking damage
Very important moment at 12:35. Ethan begins muttering about family then suddenly yells out "No! Rose!" and snaps out of it.
Given the delivery _(maybe the original japanese is different but I don't think so, this seems too deliberate with the voice direction)_ it's almost certain that *Eveline was attempting to control Ethan's mind at that moment.*
The people Eveline controlled _(the Bakers)_ were obsessed with family, and it's pretty weird for someone to say _"family... NO! I have to save my family member!"_ UNLESS the first instance of "family" was some twisted, hollow version like what Eveline was interested in. The hallucination he's seeing is also almost certainly the real Eveline, preserved thanks to the mold's doing. _(the Bakers might well no longer be preserved, but Eveline, having a direct line of contact with Mother Miranda, would be preserved within her romanian mold hive)_
This is also all especially interesting, given that RE8's concept art for Rosemary Winters states that they wanted her colour scheme to carry a tinge of Eveline's influence, and in the cutscene she gets offended at being jokingly called Eveline- So, if Eveline still lives on within the mold, that kind of carries additional meaning. _(as a side theory: the short first person flashes Ethan sees of rose's perspective as a toddler, combined with how Rose treats her dead dad in the cutscene as if she knew him IMO indicates that RE7/8 are actually being percieved/relived by Rosemary, thanks to her connection to the mold, hence the first person perspective)_

I think people's criticism of Ethan in RE7, was how he was reacting pretty nonchalantly about some of the things that happened to him in that game.
But what I've seen, people seem to like how he is in RE Village.

Ethan died in the beginning of RE7, this "Ethan" is a being that somehow formed out of mold after the real one died. He's literally the perfect Bio Organic Weapon, so is his "daughter" or let's say "sister colony".
