FINALLY did it today for my 2012 Passat SEL Preimum! Worked like a charm. Was always able to listen to my music/concert DVDs but not "view" them while I was parked or letting my passengers enjoy the vids. Now they can! ;) awesome stuff. thanks

Thanks so much for the great post and video! It worked for my 2015 Passat TDI SEL RNS-510 (HW version H26, SW version 5378) so long as I pressed the & * and then inserted the burned DVD.

Thanks for the video. I made a DVD, it said that it worked (complted the same processes) - but did not work. in testing. Did you have to do a reset of the console before inserting?
Does it matter which model RNS510? I believe I have the D model - but it's not particularly clear about it's DVD capabilities?
do you know why i cant calibrate this radio ? My touchscreen dont work propertly and when i go to calibration nothing happends? if i restart will that help me and no delete maps and other?
You're better off using a suction cup mount and sticking a phone or tablet in it somewhere on the dash. Mine is between the steering wheel and the lip of the dash which puts the phone just below the wheel. It means I can view what is on the screen without taking my eyes off the road. Best part is you can simply connect your phone to the car via bluetooth and listen to whatever is on the screen in full surround sound at any speed. If you do use a smart phone or tablet as the display it means you can still access the vehicle's driving data without interrupting anything. I also have my laptop connected via bluetooth to my 2016 Golf Sportwagen which means if I really want a bigger screen all I have to do is set it on the gear lever(DSG, won't work on my manual Golf R). Since the Sportwagen comes from the factory with a 110v power outlet in the back I don't worry about the laptop dying either.

i want to do this but i just can't see myself selling my rcd510 right now then spending another $500 on top of the profit i made from that just to have navigation and a dvd player
Nice video. When you say it voids your warranty, you mean the one that is packaged through Volkswagen, right? Because chances are, if your car is older than 3 years, it will have expired anyway.
Resultou à primeira tentativa, basta seguir as instruções, eu usei o CDBurnerXP para queimar a imagem no cd. Em relação ao resto não precisei de carregar em qualquer botão, bastou inserir o cd e depois de aparecer a mensagem de erro iniciou sozinho o processo descrito.

You have to have the RNS510.. you have to actually have the best system (RNS 510) because it is able to read a dvd. Always always make sure you research all available options and always get the best NAVI/Audio you can get. Otherwise you can't do things like this

i guess the nav tool harness is the real safer way to get vim in your car, and it wont void the warranty
