Many people in this community will disagree with me, but I'm happy Anbernic releases so many Handhelds. Retro Gaming has brought us so many Handhelds over the years like the Gameboy, GBA, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, TurboGrafx Express, Atari Lynx, etc. Anbernic and Powkiddy are the only Companies bringing back Retro Gaming devices we've loved as kids. AYN and Retroid have their place but they're just not Retro compared to Anbernic and Powkiddy.
I don't think anyone disagrees with the idea of more choices, we all are good with that! But when we see each handheld missing 1-2 features, poorly thought out choices, etc, instead of seeing an improvement on those previous ideas, we get something else completely different. Although awesome to have a new gadget, but it ends up being 10 half baked devices when a lot of us just wish Anbernic would follow through on their previous handheld iterations. Eg. RG556, weak joysticks, D-pad not super accurate, processor pales against other handhelds in the same price point. Why not re-release and fix all issues, make it a perfect handheld? 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@@tonyrosario1940 That's fair, when I originally proposed a Streaming Handheld to Anbernic I told them run with an AMOLED screen Handheld with Full Sized controls like an XBOX controller. You can already tell which features Anbernic chose to run with. 😅
I agree with you, I am happy that Anbernic keeps releasing devices. More choices in different form factors. Yes, they keep using the H700 in the XX series, but it allows devs to work on CFW that is compatible with the chipset. It seems that Anbernic is working with devs when it comes to CFW when you compare them to Trimui and how devs have been with their A133 chipset that is supposedly better than the H700. Been anticipating this device for a long time ever since the 405M. And even though I'm sad they departed from the original more pocket-friendly design of the 405M, I'd say the refresh of improvements is well worth the trade off. The 720p 4' 4:3 screen, improved sticks from the 406V, etc. I actually like the taller sticks because it'll allow for a wider range of motion. Although, it might be a slight inconvenience in terms of pocketability. The wider shell is also great, making it feel less cramped compared to the Cube. Also having the native 4:3 screen compared to the 1:1 screen on the Cube means better app support with apps that don't support the 1:1 resolution properly. But with the release of the RP Mini as well, kind of torn between the two. Looking forward to the stream with everyone. Would love to see size comparisons between this, the Cube, the RP Mini and 405M.
That does look cool. That 406v stands out to me more though. We really got some cool horizontals like the RP5 but I guess this is really cool for the 4:3 screen for certain games and something cheaper.
It looks great, the price is pretty steep tho, specially with the RP5 shipping. I would love to pick it up on sale in the $130 range, that would make it worth it.
That's a good looking handheld. Anbernic outdid themselves here. The other day I'd written that I was happy I held off on buying the Pocket (5) Mini because the Pocket 5 was so nice, not that much bigger overall despite having a meaningfully bigger screen, and not a lot more money. Now we've got this Anbernic that's also very nice, appears to be not that much bigger than the Mini despite having a meaningfully bigger screen, and costs less money. I'm spoiled for choice! I'm not sure if y'all are taking requests like a radio DJ for the upcoming livestream; but, if you are would you please test "WRC: Rally Evolved" and "Madden NFL 12" for PS2? Both are hard games to run on the converted phone I currently use for PS2 emulation. I'm not sure if it's a skill issue with setting up Aether/Nether or if the SD845 just can't do them for whatever reason.
DJ Stubbs here, we are taking requests, but they'll need to be in the livestream chat because I will forget haha. Feel free to load them in early, we'll pin them for later (link will be up in the morning)
I'm currently considering the RG556 vs. RP5, but after seeing this, I'm going to have to take a serious look at the RG406H. The screen is smaller, but the lower resolution could really help the performance. The form factor looks so sweet!
Honestly, you could see this model coming when they released the Vertical version. It's what Anbernic always does. I don't mind, was kinda waiting to see what the H version would be like before deciding between horizontal or vertical.
How to dl games on this? via a sd card or can search a game straight to the emulator? Never had an android system for gaming like this, I only have the rg35xxh.
Would love to see a size and ergonomics comparison w the 406v! These seem to be the best 4 inch, 4:3 options w the higher resolution screen and updated sticks. That purple color seems to be the one to get ❤️
So is this finally the real thing..? 🧐 Hopefully they fix the clicky shoulder buttons on the retail version, it sounds horrible. Also i would rather prefer a Linux based OS .
Feels abit late and slightly overpriced. Should have released just after the rg556 or cube is released where there were no signs of the rp5/mini yet. The first 72 hour price is probably the maximum I think it's worth for. Maybe when it goes on sale for 140-150 it will be great, considering the equivalent rp4 base is going for 135 now. A chip that is at least capable of playing harder-to-run (but not the hardest) games like ps2 gow2 at 2x full speed would be better to make use of the screen resolution, considering most ps2 games run lower than 480p when at 1x, 1.5x is not sufficient to meet/exceed the 720p resolution.
