    Anbernic confirmed this morning that they have created a fix for the video out slowdown bug, and sent me videos of it working. The OTA update should be out in a couple days and will be included with all retail units. I’ll update this comment once I have the OTA and can confirm it’s fixed on my end too.

      Will there be an update like this for the RG556? Because I have been having the exact same problem with my RG556. It makes it impossible for me to enjoy my games on the big screen...

      @@thegeht I also ever noticed the slowdowns when mirroring the handheld screen in a TV or monitor despite not considering it unplayable that way (maybe in a more reflexes demanding game), but would be glad if 556 got this fix too (and maybe the Cube and 406V, since they all run in the same chipset and much probably same system).

      Well that is True especially coming from Anbernic of all People. But I guess out of some curiosity people wanted to see a Horizontal Version of the RG406V. I’m honestly getting exhausted as much as the next guy, can’t imagine what Anbernic will finally do if they Get a Snapdragon Chip just like Retroid did with the Pocket 5/MiNi.
      Although I will give Props to Anbernic giving its 4:3 Screen a 4 Inch Display as opposed to the RP MiNi which is only a 3.7 Inch Display not any bigger than its Previous Model the RP2S which was 3.5 Inch.

    • @Skyverb
      @Skyverb 2 месяца назад +10

      @UMvsC3DPFWPW Same man.
      I like the fact that buyers have options on what form factor to choose; but feel like they can afford to slow down and focus on higher specs etc at this point.
      Anything closer to the price of the Odin 2, Rog Ally, Steam deck, I judge kinda harshly. Like why not just save a tiny but more and get one of those, lol.

    Another option for those not going the RP Mini/RP5 route, is getting the RP4 Pro, if you dont mind the device being 16x9. The price range is close to this device, provides better performance, and may be more pocketable. However you do lose on the ergonomics but that depends on whats more important to you. Lastly they do have a separate grip attachment if ergonomics is a concern.

The flood of the handhelds is astonishing, and most of them are just a day1 e-waste. I dont have a much time to play, so I need to be really selective. Thanks for helping to sort this out.
    The problem with Anbernic is they release too often instead of focus on the software aspect. These machines hardly gets any updates after few weeks after release. 44:15 The rp5 being 16:9 is less of an issue as OLED screens don't have a backlight, so you can play 4:3 games like it was a 4:3 display. It'll just be wider to hold.

    • @elektromagnetik2786
      @elektromagnetik2786 2 месяца назад +5

    I think the way to go for their next devices would be extra features and serving particular niches - something Anbernic is actually better than competition.
    Like for instance I think their Arc was really cool and unique, but it was underpowered. So a T820 Arc Pro with this cool screen would be sweet (maybe drop a stick or two if it doesn't hurt the design too much). T820 isn't enough for Beetle core, but AFAIK it is enough for a lot of 2D Saturn titles using Saturn.emu (basically same code base as Beetle, sans Retroarch overhead).
    Which brings me to a pickle. I kinda like the 406H, but I wanna wait a month or two to see if they'll actually make an Arc Pro. Because that's a device I would enjoy a lot more than 406H.

I can see them doing a version of the RG556 but in a much slimmer and compact case with the 406H's thumbsticks. In other words, something to compete more directly with the RP5.

H700 is the sweet spot for the systems I would want to play on a device like this, and 4:3 would be S-Rank for 4:3, and probably A-Rank for 10:9, 1:1, and 3:2 systems. Hmm... 🤔

    Dang, I kind of wish I had waited for this instead of getting the RG Cube. Love the higher profile sticks and the aspect ratio of the screen would be better for a wider range of systems. The 1:1 ratio on the Cube is cool for some stuff, but you lose a ton of real estate on others.

    It’s not bad, but RP5 is quite a bit better for not much more. I do like Anbernic buttons though, but that’s not enough by itself. Also for people wanting a smaller device, the RP Mini is also really nice. Personally I can’t go back to IPS screens after having OLED.

  • @lilrockstar77

    To anyone having issues with how often these companies release handhelds think about it like this.
    - Don't let the consumerism in you win. Buy the thing and enjoy said thing while its useful. I use to upgrade my phone every year until i realized how long phones work before they died was their more important attribute. Most people don't even have time to take advantage of the cadence of upgrades companies offer.
    - On that last note. Their need to upgrade every couple months or every year has little to do with you personally so don't take it that way. They are fighting to get as much attention as they can. For a hardware only company the steam route is out of the equation cause they cant make money on the software side. So they cant sit on the same hardware for long. Money slows. So They are hoping one of the hardware updates will get the attention of some of the untapped market as well as current customers.

    • @skycloud4802
      @skycloud4802 2 месяца назад +10

      I think new handhelds are getting held back more by software these days. PS2 emulation is not being updated on Android. Xbox emulation isn't even a thing on these lower end handhelds. So it'll be nice if the community draws together to get more out of these devices.

    • @lilrockstar77
      @lilrockstar77 2 месяца назад +1

      @@skycloud4802 they are held back for sure. The return on investment for having better software could be low though since they can’t sell the games they are marketing the devices for legally. We seen a few decent attempts. Ouya stands out and the most popular but still failure.

    • @skycloud4802
      @skycloud4802 2 месяца назад

      One thing always at the back of my mind though, is the international politics sides of things. The potential of price creep or bans. Tarrifs, taxes, sanctions, and other petty nonsense. Especially with Trump in charge.
      Then there's the question whether the CCP will want to capitalise on this new market in the future by infecting them with malware, spyware or something. Or a batch of dodgy pager-like handhelds supposed to be due for Iran.

    • @TheSanctus17
      @TheSanctus17 2 месяца назад

      @@lilrockstar77 I agree with Skycloud above. I understand companies trying to make a profit, that's cool. I just don't see that much innovation beyond the many handheld devices I already have. This particular handheld is not really that competitive at that price range for what it offers, but if you have no handhelds at all, it is a viable choice. The problem is that this audience, for the most part, already have the devices they need. I personally have so many handheld devices that I could open up a store. Regardless of all of the devices that have come out, nothing is really competing that much with the steam deck unless you have a use case for Android or Windows on a portable platform that is not already being met. I love my Anbernic devices, but I'm good at this point. I have small portable devices that fill that need and the very light Steam Deck for everything else portable. Everything else, I'm playing on a TV or a monitor. There is an argument made for pocketabilty, but personally, I almost never leave the house without my camera bag which easily holds my steam deck. All good, everybody has a different use case, but I would give Anbernic a , meh, nice try on this one.

    Another informative vid Russ! The RG406H looks decent but I agree with the concern regarding frequency of new devices Anbernic releases. I would rather them put out more premium devices, at least annually. For example how about an upgraded version of the RG405M? I love the form factor and the metal case provides a premium look and feel.I do have comfort grips that I can put on for extended gameplay, so I'd like for them to keep the same thin form factor. Ideally, making a metal version to compete with the Retroid Pocket 5 would def be on my wish list!
