Kendrick just put a markup on every single GNX in existence
🎯🎯
Reincarnated them
They already had markups due to the rarity, they'll only get MORE expensive than they already are
This is why I'm here!
@Iskall_Loki you sweet summer child, the car market for sport cars is a different breed
You pull up to any car meet anywhere in one of these and you're instantly one of the coolest rides there
And yet......its never been sold.
@@clydemoreno1845 bro what?💀
@@tristowilliams7360its a very cool car....and yet its never been sold.
Theres never been a truer comment on the internet, Wilson.....
Ain't that the truth this was one of hottest cars back in the day
Here because of Leno falling down while listening to Kendrick GNX album
Lmaoooooo
My neighbor has a GNX that belonged to her late husband. I believe it has less than 2000 miles on it and has spent all its life in a temperature controlled garage. Just goes to show you never know what’s tucked away in garages all over the country.
Car is worth $150,000 to $200,000 with 2,000 miles on it
Freaking awesome! And it was gorgeous, had character and balls, cars look all the same today.
Start mowing her lawn
@seanburdelik5216 one sold for 250000 so ya never know.
Your right that's where my mother in law stays
The dude is slowly dieing on the inside every mile jay drives
Hahahaha I know and Jay its flooring it to
Nope. It’s bad to just leave them sitting.
My eyes opened wide when Jay closed the hood from the right side, not the middle.. Also how he leans on these cars now n then.. Hope his palms dont have oil like mine does half the time.
He should know, or respect others vehicles a little more (close the hood from the center lol
@@koollee i agree made my heart hurt a littlw seeing that flex on the hood and the car is blacl so palm and finger printa will show
No, it's ok, he can always roll back the odometer 🤣
When Jay said "it's a car", it made me smile. Very understated and very true. It probably sums up his feelings on his car collection - that they're not just for looking at.
rager1969 , true, but he has the money to make any type of repairs
When you have millions of dollars you can look at vehicles like that as “just a car”. To the average person it’s a Mortgage on 4 wheels.
@@dmc5291 I'd argue the average person probably wouldn't (or shouldn't) be buying collector cars in the first place. The real question is whether a collector car should be driven, not as a daily driver, but once in a while. Do you side with Ferris or Cameron's dad on that question? Keep in mind, Cameron killed that Ferrari, not Ferris.
rager1969 , ruclips.net/video/iSjS-iCPeW8/видео.html
Yeah, it's a car. Notice any paint chips or door dings on Jay's collection though?
I have to say this is the most maturely, professionally produced pure car show/channel in the world. I've converted over a dozen friends from Top Gear, the grand tour and drivetribe to Jay Leno's garage. No music or overdramatic narrative - just a passionate and endearing presenter, and great cars. You just never go back to the childish stuff - this is for dudes.
Jay rules
Truly
Sometimes though... the childish stuff is fun. This is much more pure car though.
why not watch them all?
This is what Leno was born to do.
🍷Dog yo Ma Man ! 👍
I remember when I was a kid, my father, who owned a Buick dealership, brought one of these home. Let's just say it was a ride I'll never forget, and he got in trouble with the local police! This car is gold!
When i was a teenager in the 80's this car was so badass! It still holds up to the badass label so many years later.
I was the proud owner of the very first Grand National (ordered it from my local Buick dealer 6-8 months prior immediately after I read an article about it in Motor Trend) sold in the greater Ft. Lauderdale area where I resided at the time in 1986. That car war simply, magnificent. It was the perfect blend of comfort, luxury, performance and sportiness in one beautiful package. Also, the sound system was fantastic! Mine had the optional Delco GM Bose Concert Sound ll system with cassette player. It was by far the best sounding system I’d ever heard, factory or otherwise. Quiet, smooth idle, smooth ride and it got really great gas mileage too! Until that is, you decided to nail it....literally all hell broke loose! The first time I did it, it burned the tires hard as soon as it hit second gear causing a full sideways slide all the way through a long corner I had entered....really wasn’t expecting that but man, was I a happy boy! I’d had several super fast cars by the time I purchased this one including my 10 second 70 Nova SS which I owned at the same time, that was my weekend warrior, but I’d never owned a car that was an all around mesh of near perfection for a daily driver..
I would like to make a couple of points regarding the content in the video. The owner of the car stated that when the cars were sent to ASC Mclaren to become GNX’s, they “installed” an intercooler...that’s incorrect as the regular GN’s were already intercooled, (fun fact: Buick offered the Regal in T-Type trim with a turbocharged V6 from 1978-1985. The birth of the monster wasn’t until the introduction of the GN in 1986 with the addition of a large intercooler. That enhancement is what was largely responsible for the enormous performance gain from one to the other) ASC installed an intercooler with a larger cooling capacity is what they did, as well as other mods like larger turbo, special racing style gauges and a pan hard bar in the rear suspension. Additionally both Jay and the other fellow were referencing the Corvette as the main competition for the GN at the time but in reality, the 5.0 Mustangs were the hot ticket during those days ‘85-87. Let there be no question as I can tell you from experience, the GN and the GNX which came along soon after, were in fact the fastest production cars of their kind on the street in those days. I literally ate 5.0 Mustangs and Corvettes alike all day long in street races....no contest at all. And that best part was all that from a little V6! Used to freak out lots of those hot rodders that I spanked when they found out what was under the hood! Lol. Sure wish I could turn the clock back to those times...some of the best of my life. Thanks for reading!
Great information, Robbie. Thanks for Sharon.
This was a great read Robbie, thanks for sharing. It was hard to imagine a 10 second street Nova in the mid 80s, must have been a crazy ride.
many of my friends had the 5.0. The GN were faster on the roll like 25/30 mph because the turbo kicked in best. off the line depending on who was driving the mustang. They were side by side. mustangs were little better low end off the line.
@@AimForTheBushes908 Yes sir, it was indeed a crazy ride. It was running a professionally built 427 small block stroker motor making nearly 600 hp at the crank along with a 150hp shot nitrous system plumbed directly into each individual runner on the intake. Let’s just say that I freaked out loads of guys in their 100+ thousand dollar hot rods in heads up street challenges where they were handily beaten by my little innocent looking Nova. Great times!
Dam I wanna gnx
Love this whole story when a car is not just a car but also a part of an owner's life. Love it!!!!!
It was a dream of mine to own an '87 GN some day. That time finally came around in the mid 90's when I was actually able to afford two GNs. I had one fully restored which ran low 11's in the 1/4. The other was kept bone stock as a daily driver. I kept them for about four years until I ran in to some money problems and I had to sell them both. I swear, I think I loved them cars more than my ex-wife at the time. lol Not a day doesn't go by that I don't think about my GNs. Can't say that about my ex-wife. lol
LOL
Same bro lol
Lol
Glad u was able to own then. Sure wish u could still have thr. But life hsppens
Car was not that fast
"You got a lot of beautiful cars here" -Understatement of the century
🤦🏻♂️
I purchased an 86 GN in February of 86 the first year the intercooler was added. I had it for 3.5 years before it was stolen and not a day went by when someone didn't stop me to admire this cat. Awesome.
Graduated high school in '87. This rich kid got one as a graduation present. I got a job...The only other "muscle car" of the 80's was the Mustang 5.0 . My buddy had one. I thought they were really fast, light cars
@@Whitesp44 When I was a teenager, I had a 1984 Monte Carlo SS. I love the G-body era cars, The Grand National, the Monte Carlo, the Buick Regal T-type. The fox body mustang was a beast as well. Those cars seem like dinosaurs compared to today's cars with Dynamic cruise control, bluetooth, blind spot monitoring.... But I do know that no one is going to be dusting off a 40 year old Toyota Corolla they found in a barn in the future and wanting to restore it, lol.
@@lucasw2880 Well said! Absolutely true. Loved the Monte SS
The owner says he didn't want to drive it to the garage and Jay says "it's a car". Jay is such a cool down to earth dude.
Some people prefer to fly their car
Yeah that's the problem with Jay fans. They somehow misconstrue him getting what he wants and talking over people, with being "cool" and "down to earth". It's weird.
He knows cars are meant to be driven. If you want to plop one in the showroom 24/7 buy a hotwheels and let the drivers own a car for what it was built for. To be driven.
@@lliaolsen728 Cars are meant to be driven. But something that's brand new, 30 years old, and is a one-of-a-kind is something special. And the OWNER OF THE VEHICLE will understand that better than someone who GETS WHATEVER HE WANTS.
@@DTR89 They should have simply hovered the car into the garage, it's 2019
Syclone and Typhoon used a different engine. 4.3L Chevy V-6 not the Buick V-6. The Anniversary TA used the last of the GNx power plants for that car in 1989.
Richiec77 the syclone was developed with the 3.8
James H but never mass produced with it the grand national was developed with an n/a v6 that made like 135 hp and was a 3.4 L I believe so could you say that it has a 3.4 n/a just because it was developed with it?
Yep the 'ol LB4 turbo Vortec V6.
@@-thebatman- the 3.4 was more closely related to the 2.8/3.1 motors. The 3.4 is generally considered to be a garbage engine qualitywise. The 3.8 was a far better engine. No relation to the 3.8 which is widely considered to be one of GM's best engines. The fwd versions were used into the early 2000s.
@@houseofno A number of other GM cars used the 4.1 liter block which was almost identical to the '109's (3.8) but with a larger bore. Same heads and cranks if I am not mistaken. Many of the GN enthusiasts of later years used the 4.1 liter for the greater displacement with interchangeable parts to the 109 block. There were also stage I and II motors for the GN with the casting numbers '016 and '017 in 4.1 liter as well as 3.8 liter casting number '012.
The guy was right. There was someone at Buick who really wanted to stay in touch with the racing community.
The GNX is one of the 5 greatest muscle cars ever made. I wouldn’t be surprised it be valued at $500k within the next 10 years
Right specially a brand new car like this one
Well that one evidently worth $250K but can be had for $70k for other cars. Which BTW is what $29, 000 in 87 is worth today.
One just went for over $300k at BJ Scottsdale auction
A Grand National just sold at Barrett Jackson for $500k. This could be worth 700-800k. Maybe even a mil now.
He should offer it in an online auction in Dubai.
If i had Jay's money, I would have bought the car on spot
Mike Ferguson I swear
That's only one of the reasons that you don't have the kind of money he has.
@bing46 Sébastien nah, Jay is a real car guy that appreciate all kind of cars, in fact he owns a few buick himself. I mean he owns a Chevy Volt... this is way cooler than a volt for sure.
What are the odds jay already own a GNX?
@bing46 Sébastien he has plenty of non exotic cars... Including the "shogun"... A Ford festiva with a taurus sho V6 (and I think a sho shop vortech supercharger).
Too bad buick stopped making manly cars. Now buick is a car old people drive and everyone knows it.
WesleyAPEX supposedly the Avista will be coming to market... finally. That’s a gorgeous vehicle
that's one of the reasons the t types ,grand nationals and gnx's were built ..to get rid of the old man cloud..that's why the gto was re released in the 2000's
Now?
Buick was shutdown at the end of 2019 as nothing they offered sold because most if not all were just rebadged Asian cars. I actually thought that GM sold Buick back in 2010 along with several other brands like Pontiac and Saturn and others they couldn't get a buyer for just folded like the Civilian Hummers. I read all that on the interweb so it must be true.

That is my favorite car of all time. I've wanted one since I was a teenager. Just awesome.
Its so cool to see the 80s cars coming into the collector scene after seeing them slowly driven into the ground for so long.
If you bought this car for 2019 dollars with the 1987 sticker price, because of inflation the car would cost $66,576.95.
He probably couldn't get $70,000 for it today. He should have sold it back in the day instead of being greedy and now thinking a car that has sat for over 30 years and has hardly been driven is worth over 100k. I'd rather have one with some miles on it that somebody drove and took car of over this "new" one. A lot of stuff will need replaced from it sitting for so long. One of the best cars I ever had was a 74 Buick century, dark cherry, black vinyl top black vinyl interior , 350, really ran good.wish I still had it. Driving from the South to San Diego , not a problem, great cruiser that would get up.
Remember being a kid in the Bronx and seeing all the guides rocking IROC Z, Monte Carlos, El Dorado's, Grand Prix, Grand Nationals,Merkur Scorpios with freestyle music blasting racing up and down E Tremont, some with neon kits on bottom. Glorious time
Id like to hear this guy yell "Gilligan, little buddy!"
😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Lol!
that’s it!!
LMAO!!!!!! 😂😂😂🍻🐐
Outta shape Jessie Ventura.
That car is beautiful.
Idk how Jay doesn’t want to add that to his collection. Immediately!
He probably did if it was for sale but not gonna advertise to everyone that if you get your car on the show he might buy it.
I'm a Corvette guy but this car is so impressive, what a find
Jay: Are those the original tires?
Brad: Yes!
Jay: O__O
good thing the weather was good lol )
Car probably has close to 5,000 miles on it.
It was kept indoors, not exposed to direct sunlight (Showroom windows are VU blocking) which, along with ozone is what degrades rubber, also they most likely also treated the tires with protectant on a regular basis.

The best car on Jay Leno's garage. My Dream car of all times.
How hard is it to get this car ?
@@aoclive6710, Very
When I delivered papers as a kid, a customer had this car. I would stop and stare for a minute every time it was out of the garage.
Same, only it was an 87 GN, no X! Every sunday morning he would back it out and it would be in the driveway when I was delivering the sunday paper. I would just look at it in lust.
No wonder my paper was late.
Who’s here because Kendrick dropped
This car is so damn cool. I never thought I'd like an 80s car stylistcally but hell this is awesome
Jay drives his collection and I respect that way more than hoarding them in some unlit garage somewhere.
@Bo Oliver Exactly, even cars he bought brand new decades ago have minimal miles on them. Even if he was driving all of them evenly, they'd still be minimally used. He's got about 180 cars and 160 motorcycles.
Also this GNX would've had vast numbers of people see it in their car sales yard/building, as opposed to in a private collection.
Definitely one of the most beautiful cars ever created
Read my comment above Jen...you might find it entertaining
I agree
One of the coolest cars ever in my opinion. I drove an 87 Mercury cougar for years. This GNX reminds me of cars around the late 80s, and I believe this was faster in a straight line than the Countach at the time
" At my age, 1987 wasn't that long ago "............ I know how you feel.
@@Mike-sp4iz It a matter of perspective
One of my favorite cars of all time. Such a sweet car.
Buy it Jay! You know you want to!
I dont think anyone knows more about the history of cars than Jay Leno. Who doesnt envy his car collection.
I was 16 and one of my parents friends just bought a Grand National. He brought it over one day for a visit. Then he said to me, "how'd ya like to take it around the block?" It was a religious experience for me. Unfortunately for me he had the 80s equivalent of a dash cam in the car and I didn't get to have a lot of fun. In the 80s a dash cam was called his daughter.
loo
Should've have made it work with the daughter.

This is my dream car hands down I wouldn't take another car over this just have always loved the Grand National especially the Unicorned GNX
Junk car. You dream is trash
I remember seeing this car at their dealership in February 2014. I had went along with my next door neighbor who had gone in and purchased a brand new 2014 GMC Sierra and they had this GNX sitting in the showroom. As my neighbor closed the deal with the Sierra...one of the other salesman was talking to me about how they never sold the car and has never been registered and that it had been in their possession since 1987. He mentioned that at one point someone had offered about $200k for the car..and they still did not take the money. The only "damage" it had was a small dent on the hood. About the size of a dime. A customer's kid threw something up in the air and landed on the hood. I cant remember what it was exactly.. Making the small dent. I never noticed the dent..even when he told me where it was..he had to put his finger on the dent for me to see it. So that's how small it was. And no paint damage. They probably fixed it with paintless dent removal by now. To keep the car in "running" shape..they would "drive" the car around the property of the dealership. All the time being nervous not to hit a car or be hit by someone else. So it never hit the streets. Now that it's up for sale some 5 years later...it's going to be interesting to find out how much it sold for. But since 5 years ago they didn't take $200K... I'm wondering how high it's going to be sold for. Who knows..back then they didn't want to sell it..so no offer was considered. No matter how high it was. Now that it's actually for sale..it might agree to let it go for less than the $200k that was last offered. I hope I hear how much it finally went for. That is a beautiful car...especially seeing it in pereson. It was very well preserved over the past 30 years.
Saleen50SP they should have got a dent guy to come in and fix it. Cheap car dealers
@@dougg1075 I'm sure by now that had to have fixed it...
Tell em Kendrick did it.
I lived in the 80's and yes I want to go back to that era and yes I had a poster of this car on my wall
13:35 Jay falls for the oldest car dealer trick in the book. Get the customer behind the wheel.
Peremalfait You understand if Jay wants it all it would take is a quick atm withdrawal. Not do I have enough. Not finance it. Cash money in hand and parked in his garage.
I was 28 that year, and vividly remember that particular car.
11:01 owner winces as Jay pulls the hood by the corner
Gn guy here. I cringed when jay closed the hood! Gota pull down from the inside or you will dent the hood on any gn!! Best vid yet tho
If the owner was worried, he should have quickly stepped in to close it properly.
OMGWTFLOL It’s Jay Leno tho man, car God he can do as he pleases 🤣 The owner had his enjoyment out of it getting to look at it for the last 32 years. It’s sold as it sits. Like jay said tho it’s a car you have to drive it! This is where most gn guys have multiple turbo Buick’s tho. One can sit up on a lift, one can be a daily, and one can run 7’s at the strip!!
Asmithiphonic5 I thought the same thing!
I learned long ago, if it ain't yours then dont touch it.
Pull down from the inside? I'm picturing your hand between the hood and grill.
God. In 87 I just turned 21 and I wanted this car SO bad!! I wonder how much $$ they're asking for this car?
When he got booked onto Jay's show, he probably thought there might be a good chance that Jay would buy it.
I'm thinking like you on that,
he looked a little disappointed
and Jay isn't short on $$$.
My thoughts exactly
He probably thought about it, but a car that has been sitting and driven that rarely for that many years, has serious rubber fitment issues. Rubber parts get dry and start to crack and lose thier ability to seal when they aren't heated, lubricated and exercised on a regular basis. All the rubber on that car is going to need replacing.
I dont get why Jay wouldn't have bought it. GNXs are badass. And I'm sure they will just keep climbing in price.
Did Jay ever sell his car collection i heard someone offered in $1.000.000 for all his cars and motor cycles any fruth in that?
lol how ironic this popped up in my algorithm today 11/26/24 I haven’t looked up an GNX in over 2yrs thanks Kendrick lol
The dealer keeps looking at the odometer watching how many miles Jay is adding.
Military Museum I would have bought it if I was in jays shoes, obviously if it was for sale..
@@user-zm7de9fc9x Like Jay needs another car lol :)
I noticed that too. 😊
I feel the dealer was really hoping jay would buy it. Towards the end of the video you can see his facial expression changes when Jay hopes he will sell it.
@@Military-Museum-LP I think you can get better price for this in auction, instead trying to sell to 1 guy.

All ‘80s GM headliner glue have a 20 year shelf-life...
Haha...I noticed that
20 years or 10,000 miles. Which ever comes first. 🤣🤣🤣
You have sharp eyes! Hilarious...the car was presumably indoors its entire life!!! Never in the sun, and the headliner fabric STILL delaminated!!! Good ole GM! My last GM experience was a '95 Suburban that was a LEMON from the day we took delivery. What a POS. I was delighted the day I traded that heap (and I was so excited when I ordered it...what a complete disappointment it was) in 2000 for a used 98 4-Runner 4WD....which we still have today with 350K on the clock. Finest vehicle I ever owned, not a single significant problem. It's going to outlive me. That dealer didn't do that car any favors to have it sit for 30+ years.
Earlier, headliners were stitched in place to steel bow rods running across the width of the cabin top held up by steel or aluminum edge trim strips, sometimes polished aluminum or even stainless steel.
@@W.451 I have a car built in 1937 with a wool headliner. Still in perfect shape thanks to the design you describe. Meanwhile my 2006 Mercedes headliner is sagging.
