  • Carlsbad Caverns National Park was our first stop in our epic National Park roadtrip to visit all 418 units. In this fourth video about Carlsbad Caverns we share the Slaughter Canyon Cave tour. We saw some really large structures (a 90ft tall column!), some creepy looking ones that were used in filming a movie, and experienced total darkness.
    We wrote up a detailed blog post about visiting Carlsbad Caverns National Park:

    Wow, thank you! I had searched a few times for the cave my father took me to in 1977 after we had done the main Caverns tour. He wanted me to see a more natural view, as he had when he went spelunking (before that became a "rookie" term for it) while stationed at White Sands in the mid-50's. This is most certainly it, though the tour has changed a bit. They told us to have a flashlight, and sent us to the parking area with directions, and told us to follow the trail up to the entrance, and we waited there for our guide to arrive. I don't remember him being a ranger, and he led us through using a Coleman lantern. I absolutely want to do this again, more so than the main Caverns. I think I probably should leave the no-name plastic angle-head flashlight we bought for this tour behind though, I still have it.

    I must say, you're doing a tremendous job with these videos. It's hard to believe you're a beginner at video production.

      Aww thank you! Really appreciate your comment. Yes, I am still a beginner. I started completely from scratch and there is still so much to learn, but it is super fun to see through the learning process.

    15$ per person for a 5.5 hr tour feels like a great deal

    what if you need to use a bathroom??

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  4 года назад +1

      There are restrooms inside caverns in the main area where you get down with the elevator or natural entrance. Otherwise, for tours, you go to the bathroom before the tour and really try not needing one :) If you really, really need one, if I remember correctly, the rangers have special bags that you can use.

    Beyond beutiful but how can it take 5 1/2 hours? If you drive 45 minutes,hike 30min, 75min for your return trip you would have 3 hours of cave touring? Sounds like a lot.

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  4 года назад +1

      Yup, that's about how long the tour inside the cave takes. It's a group tour, so everything takes a bit longer than if you were on your own.

    love your videos and plan on watching Every. Single. One...but who is talking right next to your microphone? it is distracting.

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  4 года назад

      Thank you! Yes, that was quite annoying, but I can emphatize. We were on a ranger led tour with about dozen people. There were few people who didn't speak English and their friend translated to them everything the guide was telling. I believe this is the only video where that happened so hopefully you will enjoy our more recent videos more.
