@@fishoutwithjuno As long as you get them when they are jueviniles and not tiny babies then they are usually pretty hardy, I had mine for quite awhile and then sold all 5 on together
@@fishoutwithjuno i know you like the true wild caught but i watched a video/ documentary on a German breeder. He was one of the lucky ones who got altums to breed in captivity. The difference between being tank friendly was night and day. Being F1s they were as tough as a domestic scalare. He said he actually gets them bigger than wild juveniles because of the feeding. In all honesty just the 1 generation looked slightly different. That makes no sense to me personally. You would really like this video. I can try to find again if you haven't seen. 👋
This is so interesting, I'm really saddened by hobbyist and the Florida fish farms breeding these angels into unrecognizable mutts!!! The true bloodlines and pure species deserve respect like we do with rainbowfish and others
I agree. Not much a fan of the over bred kind. But I am thinking in a way it's good since the wild population wont be disturbed by enthusiasts. In between catching, fish store, shipping, these fish experience tremendous amount of stress and some dont make it. But I also think that people who likes the wild form has more experience.
Hi. Good question. I'm mostly referring to the nuchal hump or their "forehead" Most wild types have a "notched" facial feature. Let me see if I can find a link.
Check this link out. You would see that the domestic scalare has a more round appearance on the head, most wild types have a head shape closer to the altums. images.app.goo.gl/uwG1XqihcMSu1bzZ9
BEAUTIFUL!!! I find these much better than man made strains.
I agree on that.
Brilliant...just brilliant. Cheers!
Thank you.
Very nice. Do you breed any of the wild angelfish? I really like the red backs. Gorgeous tank!!
Hi Tom. Unfortunately I don't. That would have been nice but just don't have the space at home for it
I've never kept wild Scalare before but I did keep 5 wild Altums for a few years a long time ago
Always wanted to try altums.
Never got the chance. Always scared theyd die off

@@MakoyUnggoy I should try them in the future. I've never had them and I always find them very majestic.
@@MakoyUnggoy how old did yours get?
Intense information. Best work I've ever seenon this subject. These are all strictly scalare correct. 👍👍👍
Yes they are. Wild strain from collection points.
@@fishoutwithjuno you seem like a person who would have leapoldis and give altums a try.
@@markhaunert5029 you read me like a book hahha
