On May 27th, 1999. A man named Dale Williams left his auto body shop to go and help a person in need. Over 20 years later, he still remains missing. The circumstances that surround his disappearance read like something out of a crime novel with frustrating dead ends. This is the story of Dale Williams.

When she said "my dad is nowhere around there, my dad is dead" hit me like a brick wall. Most people in that situation refuse to accept that outcome when there's no evidence. She's a strong person.

@@MechanicalMooCow she was a kid when he disapeared.
She's probably around the same age now as her father was when he disappeared. I often think about where my parents, grandparents, and other family members were in their lives when they were at my current age. It's an odd feeling when I realize that one of them I thought was old actually died earlier than the age I'm currently at. It reminds me how fortunate I am to still be here.
I am. I’m 41 now. It was a stab in the gut to realize I’d been alive longer without my dad than with him. Really difficult fact to swallow. :(
💯
@@tonee1000 You are a strong person, all the best for you and your family.
It's really strange to wrap your head around. My Dad passed in a car accident (on his way to work one morning) when he was 28 (my Mom was 26, & I was just barely 2). At 26 I realized my Mom had a child & was a widow at my age (it gave me a whole new appreciation for how hard that must've been). When I turned 28 it was... kind of surreal.
It goes against the way we think to realize that he just... never got any older. He'll always be 28 to everyone who knew him, no matter how much older we all get, his clock stopped & ours didn't.
And you're right, it does remind me to appreciate the time that I have in life that so many others don't.
How fortunate are you?
It is truly saddening hearing her say her father is dead. I could not imagine how hard it must be to come to terms with the loss of your parent while so many people try to keep proving they are still alive.
What’s strange is the fact that the caller requesting a jump start never came forward after he was declared missing
Which confirms it was that guy and his ex wife
He disappeared in "Paradox Valley?" If that was the made up name of a location someone disappeared in a fictional story, an editor would tell the author to change it because it was too on-the-nose.
I don’t get it.

God bless Tonee for being willing to take that call and share with us. On the one hand, I can imagine it feeling weird to give that interview since we are sort of being "entertained" by this story, but it's in a very macabre way and... well, my heart bleeds for her. I lost my dad too young to a surprise heart attack. Even knowing what happened to him, it's been tough for me to find closure even 10 years hence. Anyway, god bless Tonee. I pray she's well and has found peace.
The whole thing has obviously been hard on her and his interview seems to acknowledge and respect that so I don't feel like there is a real element of voyeurism involved. She chose to share her story and hopes to find answers by doing it, this video might bring something forward I can only hope so.
@@t0xcn253 This Interview is a heartwarming,respectful one.Nothing toxic.A good piece of hard work.For both sides,i think.And for all of us,watchers and listeners.💯👍😢
Sorry for your loss my friend. I lost my mother pretty suddenly last May and I am still affected daily and assume that it will be a long time before that stops (if ever).
I suppose u can always look at these from 2 points of view.. 1.. Vulgar entertainment.. True crime watching has hit an all time high in 2022.. and its big business here on youtube if you have a successful channel.. When u look at this way.. u feel that a phone call to the child of a disappeared person is a little insensitive .. BUT!!! on the other hand.. the OTHER way u can look at it is.. the story never goes COLD!!! There is always someone learning about the story.. and ONE DAY!!! WHO KNOWS!!! The RIGHT person may see this video.. and it never hurts that the facts are 100% correct.. so in that case its doing more of a symbiotic service to both the channel and the story..
If you have those thoughts you’re more ethical than 99% of true crime content consumers
As to the "why did he stop in person to tell the woman that he had to go jump someone's car?" question, it was 1999 when he disappeared. Cell phones weren't super popular, and given that he left almost immediately after the call, he probably forgot to call her to let her know he wouldn't be able to work on her car right away, but gave a crap about people's trust.
Not only that, they were in rural Colorado, not some big city where people don't care. Everyone cared and they knew people personally.
@@patriciajrs46 plus it was still the 90s before people started sucking so hard it fuels the wildfires.
Exactly this! I was born in 1999 and even I know that back then, it was a lot more acceptable to just stop by in person to visit or update somebody on something. There is nothing weird about stopping by in person to tell a client that something came up and he will be running late.
Cell service was horrible in 1999 especially in a rural area. Not many had cell phones in 99 too. And I lived close to NYC. My mom (realtor) and my Grandpa (real estate company owner and agent) was the only people I knew in 99 with a cell phone. Even in our area, cell service barely worked. It was a huge gray flip phone with a extendable antenna. 2001/2002 is when people were beginning to own a cell phone. Those brick Nokia phones
I think this is a great point. I don't think I got my first cellphone until I was... 16, which was 2002 (& it was one of those little brick phones from before the flip phones even became a thing, God I'm getting old). And like others are bringing up, service was way less reliable in general, let alone in more rural places.
A person of interest who's name has been kept out of public record, a domestic abuser, and they had to spirit his wife away and keep her location secret to preserve her safety? So much so a restraining order hadn't been considered...?
That ex-friend is a member of law enforcement.
That sounds like it.
I didn’t know that. That makes more sense than a random person.

@@tonee1000 I hope this helps find answers, good luck.
i only today found your content and i love how respectful you are in all of these. theres so many people who only cover these things for the scare factor, but your content is far from that. even more respectful than most TV shows are these days. not to mention the editing is beautiful!
this case hits home for me. he sounds so much like my dad. even now that hes older he still does, and hes an absolute homebody. i cannot imagine losing my dad at the age i am now, like toni was when dale went missing. absolutely heartbreaking.
But the horrible trolls in the comments balance it out. How does one respectful channel gather such numbers of dumba$$es?!
Dale's character reminds me so much of my dad. Massive heart, always wanting to help anyone in need. My thoughts are with Dale and his family. He deserves justice, and so do his loved ones.
Road service telecenter operator here!
i can confirm that its not impossible they were transfered to the garage by a AAA agent if there were membership issues. At that point, you are SOL in a rural area and basically have to call random local garages hoping they can help.
So i can also confirm we get a lot of people who get angry if the driver wants to tow the vehicle to their shop because a jump wont fix it.
In some world i could imagine this sort of altercation taking place on site and it not being planned out.
Just to better inform you on rural roadside :)
But he didn't have a tow truck. So why would there be an altercation about him towing it. He was driving a pickup, and didn't do tow service or repairs, just body work
I have a feeling that while that ex husband may not have done it himself, he had someone do it for him. and had a woman call in for a jump (knowing Dale doesn't have a tow truck) in order to set dale up and get him in a rural area alone
@@masstv9052 Chain pulls aren't too hard. The fact he had a toolbox bolted in his truck tells me he spent a lot of time using it for mechanical work. That model of truck looks simple, but it's got a hefty pulling capacity. It could pull anything it's size or smaller that doesn't have a heavy load attached. This of course requires the vehicle being pulled to have four working wheels and steering, but it isn't too hard if you have that.
As for why? Well... if you're not near a full service garage, you might have to wait hours for someone to get to you if it is a full service garage coming to help. A more local garage, even if not equipped with a tow truck, will save time.
The fact that his truck was dumped 25 miles away and that they never found trace of the body makes it seem like this was premeditated though. Making someone disappear isn’t easy
@@fort809 yeah, seems like someone baited him into leaving town. hmmm.... :/

@@Unknown_Ooh boring? It shows more details than you'd ever get from news reports or police documents..
While it didn't solve the case, listening to family members speak can (for some) be enjoyable, interesting & create a closer relationship to the case.
To each their own of course but the normal, laid back vibe that phone call gave me was worth the extra time spent!
It's like Sunday morning church.
Yeah.
Dale reminds me of my grandfather. He was also a really kind guy who loved cars and would do anything to help his community. He brightened the entire community and now the small town that he lived in always knows they can go to his garage for tools or whatever they need, since my family there keeps it all in the same spot.
He kept toys for all the neighborhood kids, who always knew they had a safe spot at their house. He loved his town and the people in it, and would truly do anything to help them.
My cousins even go down to his garage to play with the train set he was working on before he passed.
I hope Dale's family can get the closure they deserve- it would be truly devastating to lose someone like this and never find out what happened to them. My heart goes out to the family and what they've been going through, I can't imagine it.
He sounds like a man of great integrity for helping his friends ex wife escape, then refusing to tell him where she went.
Gotta respect a man that gets the ad over with right at the start! For that you have earned my subscription before i even watch the whole video.
Paradox Valley would be an apt title for for a pulp mystery novel with this general plot.
Why?
@@mikebond6328 1. It is the name of the scene of the crime. 2. There are many paradoxes occuring in the plot. 3. It's beautifully trite.
Love the name as well, for some mystery story of some sort.

I was looking for this comment. It was driving me a little insane. Poor Cadaber, I can feel the sinus pressure in that whistle.
Hearing his daughter talk about the day of his disappearance gave me chills because my living situation is a bit similar to hers atm (I study in uni away from home and my younger brother lives with my parents). I guess this makes it easier to put myself in her shoes, and it's honestly a terrifying scenario to think about.
Do you doxx yourself on the internet often because it's not a very smart thing to do
Correction at 14:15 - circumstantial evidence alone CAN be used to charge/convict somebody of a crime. In fact, until the recent increase in surveillance options, circumstantial evidence was oftentimes the only evidence of who committed a crime. Direct evidence is better of course, but circumstantial evidence can be just as strong.
A person can be convicted with no evidence at all or even evidence of innocence if 12 peers say so.
Correction: He never said you can't be convicted from circumstantial evidence. He said he wouldn't be convicted with the circumstantial evidence he just discussed.
How can you have no many likes when you're so wrong?
@@dariang4725he only has 35 likes dude relax
Usually that only happens if there's "too much" circumstancial evidence. In other words, when there's so much of it, the only alternative explanation is "he's the most unlucky man in the world."
@@dariang4725”but legally he couldn’t be charged with a crime, as everything was circumstantial”. The fact that the evidence was circumstantial was not the problem, as you can be convicted based solely on circumstantial evidence. That’s what I was pointing out. Take a breather and work on your comprehension skills.
Thanks for shining a light on this case! I pray for Tony that she gets answers. Seems like Dale loved his community and would do anything to help people. We gotta get justice for his fam!
His alleged killer was arrested yesterday. I went to school with both of them, and yes, Dale was a very nice guy and I think everyone liked him. A good person.
Tonee saying that she’s exhausted by all the incessant rumors and theories, then coming to the comments to see incessant rumors and speculative theories….. it’s really depressing. I really loathe the true crime community sometimes
this. i feel like i have to do this often to stay in the same rabbit hole
I'm like going back and reading your comments cuz you seem to be saying correct things with true opinions but phrasing them and putting them into words that make everyone think you're just rambling and ranting a little bit in the other comments. I agree that a majority of the true crime community is a bunch of weird people that kind of get off on it and more than anything and just like the idea of hearing about creepy shit but not in the autistic, special interest in the macabre kind of way but in a, "enjoys it in a way that I cannot properly articulate on RUclips" kinda way. I personally do it as a form of escapism from my OCD and (actively being VERY medicated) anxiety because my brain constantly creates such terrifying egodystonic thoughts that I kind of just use it as a way to calm my brain down when it goes on too long of a stretch of just feeding me horrifying thoughts with no provocation. A lot of these stories really are just horrifying and terrible things happening to innocent people who committed the crime of being in a place at a time that the universe apparently decided they shouldn't have been and so the only fitting punishment for such a non-crime is a lot of murder
While cellphones and service exists in 1999, the phone and service was not cheap and the service was not as ubiquitous as today. People had them, but the cell tower network did not cover as much areas as today. I'm skeptical that such a small town such as Nucla or Paradox would have much if any cell coverage.
Roaming capabilities were possible in places. Not in Paradox Valley
Yeah people forget how bad cell service was back then: if you didn't live in a big city it was patchy and out in the countryside, especially in the mountains? forget it.
I still lose cell service when in drive through the mountains 🤔
Yeah, in '99 I had just started learning IT fairly well and I met the lead tech at this PBX Telephone/PC Integration company. There were a-lot more capabilities than you'd ever think back then, but it was landline everything. Also, people forget, pagers were still huge.
Cellphones were around, but still fairly rare. Over the next few years, starting right after the Y2K bullshit, they took off.
@@tonee1000 Hi Tonee, God bless your heart. I live in the Nucla area. My interest in your Dad's case has to do with me living in the area, and not being from here, I don't feel safe in the area, especially with a murderer on the loose, getting away with it for so many years, when it seems like most people know who it is and have even told me the name of the murderer, but, not being from here, I forgot it. Did the lady caller have an foreign accent? I talked to a man who told me he was questioned by the FBI for weeks, maybe he was lying to me, but I think he knows what happened or is even involved, and he had a wife from eastern Europe who left him. My daughter was born on 5/27/99, that blew me away. Because an accent, he wouldn't have to ask who it was. Also, if he helped her escape, and she came back for stuff, and her car "broke down"...Did the call come from Paradox? a home? The store? or from out of state?
this one really hurt to watch, you’re an amazing person for actually reaching out to his daughter. 💞

I’m loving the work you’re putting into your videos man. Just please don’t burn yourself out!
Reaching out to family, very nice!!! This definitely brings more truth to the story and helps them gain a voice. It's also more intense for viewers, makes it more real for us, and makes us want to be more involved in possibly helping or looking out whenever we can because of the connection to loved ones you brought to the video. I love this, good work!!!!
I agree! It's also a lot more respectful than what a lot of "true crime youtubers" do, when they speculate and come up with crazy theories to make it seem more interesting, when they don't even know the whole story.
Giving a voice to the family and loved ones that have experienced the loss is the most considerate thing you can do.
My heart is broken for Toni. I lost my dad as a teenager, but at least we got to bury him and didn't have to live knowing the person who did it got away with it. I don't know how anybody copes with that.
Dale has such a kind and disarming face in all of his pictures. He just exudes a "good guy" sort of demeanor. This story is so sad.
One of, if not THE best video you've ever done. I was enthralled from beginning to end. It's a case I've not heard of and that's rare for me, and probably a lot of other true crime enthusiasts. I crave seeinng new cases come to more public attention.
I am curious and do wish you had asked if she knew what the abusive husband's alibi was, and if she thought it was good enough to eliminate him completely. Nothing else makes sense and in a small town it is so hard to keep secrets for this long.
Excellent job, daber!
Holy shit me too. All that.
Agreed. Great Video and its also a Case I havent heard of.
I do know the alibi, however it’s not public information and therefore due to being a n open case still I cannot release that information.
It’s not “air-tight” tho as previously stated by a prior investigator, according to our current team.
You should totally cover an on-going investigating that is happening in my state! It has gone all over the states now. It’s the missing Summer Wells case. People would go crazy over it being covered like you do!
What a MESS that case is. Especially the father. Sad.
You handle these stories so gently. Hearing Toni say so definitively that her father is dead was really heartbreaking, even if I agree that he most likely is.
I'm curious if anyone reached out to the ex wife who was helped. You said there was speculation that maybe she was used as bait (I am obviously paraphrasing). Was there any information regarding that? Idle curiosity. Thank you for sharing Dale's story. I wish peace to his family.
Speculation is speculation and you can’t interview someone who doesn’t want to talk. If there were facts in evidence they would be in the video
Beautiful job on this video, very respectful and helpful. I can't imagine having a loved one lost in such a way
When she said, "my dad's dead, he was murdered" and then the shiver in her voice after that.. My blood froze. Why do bad things happen to the greatest people ! God bless this family and I hope they find comfort in life. And fuck the ex-friend, he totally did it.

Wow, you got an exclusive interview, that's the ultimate sign that your channel is top notch ❤
The guy who threatened Dale having an alibi doesn't mean he had nothing to do with it. He could've payed someone to kill him and he could've gone somewhere public during the murder and boom, rock solid alibi. "It couldn't have been him, he was at this place all day". Obviously we don't know what his alibi was, but if he didn't commit the crime himself, having an alibi doesn't mean he's innocent. I think he's probably buried somewhere in the middle of nowhere and then they dumped the truck in the river. His window being "wrong" means someone else might've driven the car at least for a bit.
But having said that, removing the missing persons flyers wouldn't really accomplish much. If this town is as small as they say, then you wouldn't even need a flyer. You just hear Dale Williams from the car shop went missing and that's all you need.
To me, a loose thread is what happened to the ex-wife that got out. Did anyone double check that they are still around, etc?
@@TaeruAlethea That's a good point. I haven't heard anyone talk about her yet.
If he really was the culprit, he definitely wouldn't have removed those flyers. That's a surefire way to get the cops' attention, especially in towns as small as those. He would've laid low or gone off state.
I think the flyers part was done out of pure spite more than anything

Nothing about your presentation distracted from the telling of the tale.
I say this because I read all the comments.
Peace to you both.
Cadaber, you should look into the disappearance of larry riegel. He’s from my home town, missing since 2009.
One of your best videos yet
First time I've ever heard someone mention the mic in a raycoon ad.. I've had two pairs of the e25, both were returned because the mic makes you sound underwater and are incredibly hard to hear the user with.
Sounds like a good mic to me. Can you not hear the crispness of his nose whistles crawling up the skin of your neck?
@@pullt lol. Fair though that's probably not from earbud mic as they have no front facing pickups at all ;)
your content is so excellent, diverse, and well-researched!!! i respect your commitment to fleshing out the stories you tell and taking the initiative to track down leads rather than settle for what's already at hand. looking forward to your growth !!
You contacted someone related to the case?!
That's it. I love you.
So crazy seeing a video about my home town. I knew Dales family, such a sad experience for them. 😔
Say hello to your parents for me, Ana. :)
SO EXCITED TO WATCH!
just terrible..i cant even imagine....all i can do is send my love to the family and hope that one day there will be closure.. as a documentary i must commend you on your narration and editing...very good work
The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery.
You would know, Dark Pharaoh!
All hail the king in yellow
@@tunguskalumberjack9987 Heh, as someone once put it, true curiosity is never satiable. You will find more things you want to learn before you finish learning what you seek right now.
Excellent video! An incredibly insightful interview in the latter half especially
From the first part where mentions there is a sharp curve that leads to the river and the fact that the tool box which was bolted into the bed of the truck was missing but later the lid to it and several of the tools that were known to be inside of the tool box were found further down river makes me wonder why no one's looked into the possibility that he simply drove into the river during an accident and his body was washed away and just never located
The daughter responded to that in an earlier thread.
Her several responses here indicate more is known than is mentioned in the video, but since it's still an open case she can't say everything that's known.
the tire tracks on the scene proved that it’s not plausible for that to have happened. it looked like the truck was slowly rolled into the water
Police said that the truck was deliberately placed into the water, his daughter also replied to comments confirming this.
Definitely one of my favorite channels on RUclips! Keep on watching your Videos whenever i fall asleep
I genuinely thought the nose whistle was a sound in my room for a bit until I realized it was his nose lol
You are so very talented and your uploads are always done so well. I wish you would upload a lot more frequently.
Video starts at 2:00
The murder just got found this morning on October 17 damn bro really thought you got away after 25 years that’s crazy
Yeah! almost an hour of Cadaver!
I am so happy that i found your channel
“which leads me to the final part of this video”
*40 minutes still left*
not complaining though! love the video
Wow amazing! Thank you so much for this! You did amazing interviewing her. I found everything she had to say very interesting. I truly hope that a resolution can be found for this. It sounds to me like the investigators may have quite a bit more info than they are releasing due to the ongoing investigation. I feel she felt adamant that it truly was a set up and this was a pre meditated planned thing. She was also very open to other possibilities, but I found it super interesting how against the idea that it was some random crime by some random person. I really hope that they find closure and they catch who did it.
Excellent video I believe that ex husband had something to do with it . Also I believe police think so too. Unfortunately whatever his alibi is police can’t contradict it and no evidence linking him to truck etc so can’t arrest him.
Yep. It's definitely gonna be a leading theory. Ive not done any research, but there wasn't any talk about the women they helped get out of town. Did she disappear? Was she the alibi for the ex-husband? Having looked at tons of true crime, it's usually someone much closer to home than people think.
Yesss an hour long video!!!! Ah man you could do this everytime and I'd watch it religiously 😆
Hmmm...religiously....a "Cadaber Cult"? A good story for Nick Crowley's channel☺😄
