Hey everyone 👋 No CPUs were hurt during the filming of this video!

On occasion, I think of the old Tom's Hardware video where the coolers were removed for an Intel and AMD CPU respectively, with the latter burning up and dying (poor old Athlon!) as a result. This video briefly reminded me of that, and I'll occasionally forget that it's nowhere near as applicable today, especially since it's been more than a decade. Think I heard it was skewed to be in favor of Intel, but of course, I wouldn't have even thought about that being the case as a kid.
    Regardless, good video 👍

Hah yes, those were some great (but painful!) videos. Thanks, glad you liked this 🙂

Hey, I just built my first pc and the Mainboard was damaged in transport and I had to replace it. I applied thermal paste on the first assembly, but since I needed to switch out the mb I had to disassemble and wait a few days for the new mb to arrive. (so basically your test, but instead of waiting a few minutes I waited a few days.) Should I remove and reapply the thermal paste or do you think it's fine like this? Everything works now and I see idle temps of around 50-65°C at 35°C ambient temperature. Running a Ryzen 7 7800x3d

So if it's not clear I assembled it to test it without changing the paste. I'm kinda scared to put it under heavy load to test though 😅

Hey, congrats on the first build 👏 I don't think that would be an issue - the thermal paste wouldn't have completely hardened up in that time, IMO. Plus having temps 25-30 above ambient doesn't sound too bad either. I wouldn't worry about stress testing it though - the worst it would do is thermal throttle at 90-95degC instead of breaking ☺️

What if you loosen your CPU cooler because it was too tight, do you need to reapply thermal paste?

I wouldn't worry about that - loosening it a bit is unlikely to disturb the thermal paste in any real way IMO.

Hey! My pc wasn't booting up so i thought of removing and reconnecting everything and i also did this to Cpu and the cooler too... I removed cooler for 10 - 15 mins i guess do i need to reapply themal paste?? I have ryzen 5 5600G and cooler had preapplied thermal paste (sorry for my English)

Hey, your English is fine - no problem :) Good question. You probably would be fine if it's just 10-15 minutes - I didn't see any major temperature problems after removing my cooler for this time. It can depend on a few factors though (how old the thermal paste is, for example). Maybe just keep an eye on CPU temps in HwInfo while you're gaming, and make sure they aren't getting too high.

@@TechOverwrite my pc is 11 month old...and i tested playing GTA 5 in normal settings i usually play and highest temperature was 60°C and PC usually stays at 38 to 41°C in idle state

Can you help! When downloading a game on steam the Mbps keeps dropping to 0 ! There’s no actual answer I can find that fixes this issue

The most common reason for this is that Steam needs to stop to actually unpack the downloaded packages. So if you have slower storage (like a HDD) or a failing SSD, maybe Steam just needs to take a long time between downloads to unpack everything - hence the intermittent 0bps download rates you're seeing?
