  • Video Introduction:
Big bull Rakesh Jhunjunwala will soon launch Akasa Airlines, but experts are skeptical of his move. Most think that the best way to be a Millionaire is to become a Billionaire and then start an airline company. But in today's video, we will bust this myth using a real-life example of Southwest Airlines, the world's largest low-cost carrier airline, which has been profitable ever since it launched.
Southwest Airlines Co., typically referred to as Southwest, is one of the major airlines of the United States and the world's largest low-cost carrier airline. It is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and has scheduled service to 121 destinations in the United States and ten additional countries.

The hexagon is a classic graph problem that is it is a complete graph. The Hub and Spoke model is intuitive but inefficient. But the solution of Southwest to prioritise the high traffic routes are intuitive as well and should come naturally as well. But is it just me and if not why do businesses invest so much to come up with such easy solutions?

These business are massive. Everything done is done strategically. Point to point and hub and spoke are the standards that was created by expers.
They are operating billion dollor companies
as stated Southwest was connecting point a b and c only. if every country follows this what about the airlines for d e c f points. should customers cancel going to these places.
This is how it works. when you see big context then both the models are great. while southwest was focused on growth in perticular point. other companies were operating at higher level. As we know Amazon is bigger it does business all over the world and all products. while Myntra only does the fashion and has the largest makert share in fashion ecom industry. It's similar to the southwest.

Whereas AirIndia has to cover unprofitable paths as well which is why it is in losses. Values of both are different. Not sure what will happen when AI is privatised.

oil hedging was a good point but southwest uses smaller airports. they dont fly to ohare in chicago but midwest airport. the secondary airports in usa have lesser lading and overnight parking charges. usa has a much better aviation eco system. there are pvt airports as well.
southwest has taken many such airports in the texas area and renamed them south west airports. in india we have all the airports under AAI hence lack the infrastructure. therefore in india this model doesnt work. Deccan tried it for sometime but due to lack of political support could not survive. also naresh goyal had the head of DGCA in his pocket for the longest time. he kept on changing the rules in his favor. now with udaan scheme india is trying again and perhaps newer companies can cash in on it. also airlines are trying to buy their own fuel. lets see what happens in the future.
