i have the straight shot mufflers and they are awesome... simple, clean look.. but they are LOUD, so i installed the db killer and did some trial and error with the fiberglass and tuned the sound to a more civilized, but still cool tune
After 44k miles of riding my 04' Sportster 1200 my Vance Hines heat shield broke off at the spot welds going down the road, contacted V & H they asked for pics, so I sent some. Never heard back from them.
I'm about to start upgrades on my 2007 sporty. Short shots, kurakyn hyper charger, 1200 block upgrade, should be running a lot sweeter than it is now when it's done
Well the full list is 1200 block, originally I wanted the 1250 buell engine but it's gonna be expensive to get parts that are compatible with that as opposed to the standard 1200 block, kurakyn hyper charger, v and h short shots, kurakyn fork slips, black 6" drag bars. Black under bar indicators, black forward pegs, blacking out the remainder of the engine, black derby and engine covers, and blacked out replacement of rear indicator mounts and basically blacking out every single bit of chrome I can. Then it's getting tuned stage 1 and 2, so it's gonna be off the road for a while :(
I wish we could perform demonstrations of every exhaust we review. I recommend poking around RUclips for sound tests that other riders put up. You can get a nice variety of opinions that way as well. -TeamZilla Chris
Here is a question: I installed the V&H short shots, with air filter & tunings, etc, but actually lost power as opposed to gaining it. Torque has almost dropped to half of what it was before, and generally I feel that the bike doesn't run as smooth as it was stock. Isn't this a little weird, considering the promise of power increase and the amount of money I spent on it?
i have them on my bike it runs like shit and cuts out guess i gotta get a tune and new air cleaner as well my old 2009 883 smokes there new one with the short shots on it very un happy with them except for the sound
I bought a 2013 sportster 72 with short shots on it. The air cleaner is stock and has no fuel tuner. My question is what air cleaner and tuner do you recommend?
No, the Street 750 exhaust design is completely different. All the exhausts we have available for your bike are slip-ons, which just replace the single muffler. We don't have anything like the Shortshots. -DrewZilla
Question I have a 2020 HD sportster 883 already with a big flow air filter and Vance & Hines staggard slash slip ons, can I put full exhaust Vance & Hines short shots without using a FP3 or $ fuel pack?
Yes, they do, and current pricing is listed at the link below. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-big-radius-exhaust-for-harley-sportster-2014-2017

Hey I want to put the v&h exhaust straightshots hs slips ons... do I have to put something else and can you send me a tutorial of how to install those please, I need help and also what do you recommend to buy the full system or just the mufflers I want to make noise
If you're just installing slip-on mufflers, you'll get a louder sound, and you do not need to make any other engine modifications. For general exhaust installation instructions, see below. Detailed instructions are also included with the exhaust. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/common-tread/installing-an-aftermarket-muffler
Hi i was wondering why does vance and hines big radius design only for sportster iron 2014 model and above? Does that mean i cant fix it onto my 2010 iron model? Is there any similar designs like the big radius that could be fix onto the 2010 model?
Hi, are the gaskets only needed when installing a full exhaust system ou also when using slip ons? Sorry for the lame question, but this is my first bike...
I am considering buying a Sportster 48. What is the difference between Vance & Hines exhaust and Screaming Eagle exhaust for a 48? Will the Screaming Eagle pipes make the 48 sound loud? That is what I'm looking for, that "rolling thunder" of a Harley. I ask about Screaming Eagle because I understand that is what is sold and installed at a Harley dealer. Wouldn't know where to go for installation if I got an aftermarket pipe.
Both the Screamin' Eagle and Vance & Hines exhausts will make the 48 louder than stock. The difference between exhausts depends on the length and diameter you're comparing though. Shorter exhausts with a smaller diameter tend to have a slightly higher pitch, while longer exhausts with a larger diameter tend to have a lower rumble. It seems you're looking for a low rumble, so look at longer exhausts with larger diameters. -DrewZilla
Thank you! Yes, I'd have to say I am looking for a low, throaty rumble. This helps, had no idea about how length & diameters make such a difference. I'll make a note of this if and when I enquire about exhaust pipes. Thanks!
Can I install the twin slash w/ out the fuel pak|commander? Will it run hot without the fuel pak? I just need to have a little louder than stock... don't need performance. Tnx
Hello! I just picked up a 2004 Sporster 883 and wanted to know what's a good set of pipes to clear some rear sets? Also, can you recommend a air filter to compliment a Vance and Hines full exhaust system? Thanks!
+Peter Picchi Any air filter will complement a V&H exhaust, and as for pipes to clear rearsets, it all depends on exact rearset location. I'd consider the Vance & Hines Competition 2-into-1, Two Brothers Comp-S 2-into-1, and the Roland Sands Slant 2-into-1. Notice that all 3 have a good amount of clearance behind the standard mid-mount control location. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-competition-series-2-into-1-exhaust-for-harley-sportster-2004-2013 *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/two-brothers-comp-s-2-into-1-exhaust-for-harley-sportster-2004-2013 *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/roland-sands-slant-2-into-1-exhaust-for-harley-sportster-2004-2013
I have a pair of Vance & Hines slip-ons for my Sportster 48. Will a Screaming Eagle tuner be compatible with the slip-ons and reduce decel popping? I ask about Screaming Eagle tuners since Harley dealers have said they won't install aftermarket tuners and I'd like to keep the warranty intact. Thoughts or suggestions on what tuner to use with the V&H slip-ons?
Yes, a Screamin' Eagle tuner will be compatible. You could easily install a Vance & Hines Fuelpak FP3 yourself though if you wanted. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2019
I have a 2004 sportster and I seen a lot of people who have the short shots with aftermarket air cleaners. Do you have to put a aftermarket cleaner on or can you just use the H-D stock cleaner?
We don't carry Thunderheader, so you'd have to verify that directly with them. Based on their website, though, 2014-2018 Sportsters all use the same Thunderheader exhaust (#1059). -DrewZilla
Quick question and please forgive my ignorance So if I want to upgrade to the just short shots for my future 2015 883 I would have to get the fuel pack? Same question goes for the slip ons thank you very much
hey Lemmy, i'm from france, gonna go get my 2017 iron 883 in 2 weeks. i've already got the V&H twin slash mufflers (with the quietbaffles). BUT! .....in france, new riders have a power restriction (47.5hp) for 2 years, and i do. so apparently i should retune because these mufflers are sooo much more open than european stock pipes. so i've being hearing ,sometimes, that in this case the engine wont like it if i don't change my air filter and retune .... but in many cases i see "go mount them ... no prob" ... so ... what's your opinion?
No, it's not necessary. If you want to change both the exhaust and the air cleaner (breather), then you must also re-tune the fuel mapping with a fuel tuner. That costs more, so if you want to change the look of the bike and get a new sound, then just install slip-ons and leave the air cleaner (breather) stock. -DrewZilla
The Shortshots _are_ a full system exhaust, so they do have the potential for more power when combined with a fuel tuner. The Straightshots are the slip-ons, and while they might give you a little bit of power, they're more for having a different sound than stock. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-shortshots-staggered-exhaust-for-harley *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-2-12-straightshots-hs-slip-on-mufflers-for-harley
well im not into performance ,more horse power and stuff,,im an urban rider,,just want my bike to sound great and loud,,but all the riders i know say if i dont install a fuel pack i will damage the engine on a long term,,is that true?
why kay It is possible, but there is no hard answer. If you're adding a high-flow intake and a free-flowing exhaust, the safe bet is to go with a fuel management system to richen your Air / Fuel mixture. If you're only adding an intake, it's not as big of a deal. -Hi-Viz Brian
I have a 2015 sportster 48 and would like to install the short shots myself. Sense Everything else on my bike would be stock, do i need a tuner or fuel pak along with the exhaust?
You have to bump up your fuel system? I have an aftermarket air intake already, am I okay with putting straight shots on it. I have a 97' hugger. RevZilla
It's a good idea to check your air / fuel ratio if you install Straightshots. With an aftermarket air intake and Straightshots, your bike is a lot less restricted. She might need some more fuel. -Hi-Viz Brian
Hi , I'm planning put to Vance and Hines slip ons on my 2016 sportster forty eight. Do I need a fuel management system if I put a screaming eagle heavy breather air filter with it or the guys at Harley service tune things up for the best? If I put only the slip ons and not any air filter what is the possible scenario I'm looking at ? I'm a novice with Harleys and this is my first bike. Thank for your advice in advance.
You can do an air cleaner _OR_ a slip-on without needing to re-tune, but if you're doing both, you'll need to re-tune. If you're going to tune for the air cleaner, you might as well tune for the exhaust as well. If you want to save money, you can install the exhaust and air cleaner yourself as well as do the tuning yourself with a Vance & Hines Fuelpak FP3. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2016
Thanks revzilla for your awesome advice. Just a small thing to clear rumors. If I put on just the VnH slip ons with stock air cleaner will it decrease my engine life or effect the engine in negative manner ?? Your the best in business so the answer from your side will be very valuable to the community. I plan to keep the bike life long, which is more important to me than the performance and sound. So that is why I'm very cautious coz I'm just a newbie to Harleys.
Hey do I need fuelpak fp3 as a necessary component while install Vance and Hines short shots on iron 883 2014 or I can do without it as well. I have a heavy breather already installed. Please help!
By altering both the air cleaner and the exhaust system, fuel management is highly recommended, if not required. Lemmy goes into a great amount of detail on the subject in the article linked below. -TeamZilla Chris *www.revzilla.com/common-tread/fuel-management-101 *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2017
Between what years does a short shot fit for 48 sportster ? Because I have a 2017 and someone is selling one for 2013 and was wondering if it will fit my 17
Uh oh, it looks like you're out of luck. Shortshots that would fit your '17 are only compatible with 2014 Sportsters and newer. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-shortshots-staggered-exhaust-for-harley-sportster-2014-2017
Gudpm Revzilla, i have a question we have a 2015 Harley Davidson Superlow 883 and we want to change its stock muffler to a Vance and Hines Shortshots staggered chrome, is it needed to change the Air Intake and configure the fuel via FuelPak FP3? What are your thoughts on this matter? Thanks in advance...
You don't need to change the air cleaner unless you want to, but you do need to adjust the fueling with any full exhaust such as the Shortshots. We do recommend the FuelPak FP3 as the easiest and most effective way to do so. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2016
+RevZilla what FuelPak do i need to use? the FuelPak FP3 CAN BUS(6pin) or FuelPak FP3 California? by the way were from the Philippines... and a follow-up question, does the Vance & Hines Sportster Big Radius Chrome can be fitted with an optional quiet baffle? because the shortshots has an optional quiet baffle that we can buy as stated on the website of V&H..TIA
As you do not live in California, you do not need the California version. I recommend the standard version I linked to in my previous response. As for quiet baffles, we do not have quiet baffles for the Big Radius Sportster Exhaust. -DrewZilla
+ZIPPER978 If you're replacing the whole exhaust, you would want to perform a remap or get a fuel controller. Even with a stock air cleaner, installing the Shortshots would require a remap or fuel controller. -DrewZilla
Even if you're just after sound a fuel controller is a good idea. Your bike won't run quite as good and because the fuel / air mixture will be off, you could damage the motor over time. Nothing will immediately explode, but it's a good idea to have the bike running at its best. -Kraus-e
There are a number of exhausts featured in this video. Which exhaust did you purchase? If purchased from RevZilla, you can call in to help troubleshoot the issue. -DrewZilla
RevZilla i bought them undirect from vance and Hines twin slash slip ons. I had to grind 0.5 cm of to make them fit. Need to but extra Silent baffles. They should come as are all parts you might need like header gaskets and clamps. You pay enough money to inclusie all parts.
Sorry for beeing stupid.. But if i take the exhaust of my hd 48.. I have the same sound like on a full system? In my country it is not allowed anyway. But i saw some badass with this full system.
I'm sorry, I do not understand your question. Are you asking whether removing your exhaust entirely will make it sound like a full system? If so, no, riding without any exhaust at all will be terrible for your engine. -DrewZilla
Please reply@Revzilla should i get vans and hines short or screaming eagle exhaust? My dealer says i will get no engine warrant if i put vans and hines.. so what should i do for a better performance and sound exhaust
We cannot guarantee how the warranty works outside the United States, so you would have to defer to your dealer. Alternately, you can try to contact the Harley-Davidson corporate offices in your country to get their official position on the matter. -DrewZilla
You literally just answered your own question. You asked why a full exhaust costs a lot compared to a cat back, which is literally just a muffler and tubing along with stock components. The full echaust costs more because they are man/computer checked and made, and they aren't outsourced to another country where they can be made cheap. A better comparrison would have been comparing a cat back to slip on mufflers. I don't think $400-600 is too expensive for a full Vance and Hines exhaust system, that's why my 48 has short shots and I wouldn't trade them for the world.
Hi! I'm planning to buy a new Seventy two. I want to install short shots, open air cleaner and fuelpack. Which thanks to your video's I'm pretty confident to install myself. But one question, you mention to install new exhaust gaskets. Is this still necessary if I install my upgrades pretty much right away during the first few miles of the bike? I figure that the stock gaskets are still in great shape or do I mess them up when I take off the exhaust? Like your video's btw, very helpful and sometimes even funny :) Keep up the good work!
+krofski It really depends on how the original gaskets were installed at the factory and how they look when you remove the stock exhaust. New gaskets are relatively inexpensive, so we say better to have them and not need them then to not have any when your bike is apart. -DrewZilla
+cxnjkcxnvkn dklvsdjlkcnsdc We don't have any specific exhausts for your bike currently, but there are some good options out there from brands like Paughco and Cycle Shack. -DrewZilla
They're not difficult to tune at all. Most people just install a full exhaust along with a Fuelpak FP3. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2019
If you have already tuned the Shortshots since installing them, then you probably don't need to retune without the baffles. If you are using the Shortshots with the stock Harley exhaust tune, then you should retune. -DrewZilla
Unfortunately, we cannot ship exhausts and other oversize items outside the United States. Postage for other products depends on size, weight, and value. -DrewZilla
Hi, I have a question related to it’s sound . I bought last year twin slash 3” slip on and it sound great, loud and beefy. But this few days, the beefy sound is gone and it became a normal sound. I have a heavy air flow and FP3 and it is set to it’s map from vance & Hines, will it be fixed if I tune it with auto tune to bring back the beefy sound? Thanks and waiting for your reply.
The same set of pipes fits both the 883 and the 48. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-shortshots-staggered-exhaust-for-harley-sportster-2014-2017

Stage 1 I think?
Or is it a bit too much?

Where do you measure to get the baffle size, is it from each outside edge of the baffle or is it the diameter of the hole itself?
It is the interior diameter of the pipe, so the actual pipe it is sliding in to.

is a fuel pack "a must" or just the high flow intake will do? thnx
why kay What are you trying to achieve? The FP3 is not a must, but it can yield nice gains. -Hi-Viz Brian
well im not into performance ,more horse power and stuff,,im an urban rider,,just want my bike to sound great and loud,,but all the riders i know say if i dont install a fuel pack i will damage the engine on a long term,,is that true?
why kay It is possible, but there is no hard answer.
Did you find an answer? I am in the same situation as you
You have to bump up your fuel system? I have an aftermarket air intake already, am I okay with putting straight shots on it. I have a 97' hugger. RevZilla
It's a good idea to check your air / fuel ratio if you install Straightshots. With an aftermarket air intake and Straightshots, your bike is a lot less restricted. She might need some more fuel. -Hi-Viz Brian
How big jets should I put in? They're stock right now RevZilla
-DrewZilla

Gaurav Dalip
That's an interesting question! I hope they answer, too. I'd like to gain some clarity on that matter.
-TeamZilla Chris

-DrewZilla

-DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2016
-DrewZilla
Do the full exhausts have mufflers or are they just straight pipe cause i work on a military base and cant be to loud
Full exhausts generally have internal baffles. Many have optional quiet baffles sold separately. -DrewZilla
If you get say the short shots with stock air cleaner do I need to fuel remap or only if I get the air cleaner?
+ZIPPER978 If you're replacing the whole exhaust, you would want to perform a remap or get a fuel controller. Even with a stock air cleaner, installing the Shortshots would require a remap or fuel controller. -DrewZilla
I mean a pair of vance & hines plus a high flow intake...would it be ok? Thanks
Even if you're just after sound a fuel controller is a good idea. Your bike won't run quite as good and because the fuel / air mixture will be off, you could damage the motor over time. Nothing will immediately explode, but it's a good idea to have the bike running at its best. -Kraus-e
thank u..that was helpful,,cuz im often buying second hand HDs so if the bike is running without a fuel pack i should walk away right ?
they don't fit on my 2017 iron , the holes don't match with the stock bracket
-DrewZilla
i know you get the sound with slip ons but does it get louder if you go to lets say the vance and hines big radius 2 into 2?
+Michael Loggins Yes, the Big Radius 2-into-2 is a much shorter exhaust with little baffling, so it will be louder. -DrewZilla
Please reply@Revzilla
should i get vans and hines short or screaming eagle exhaust? My dealer says i will get no engine warrant if i put vans and hines.. so what should i do for a better performance and sound exhaust
We cannot guarantee how the warranty works outside the United States, so you would have to defer to your dealer. Alternately, you can try to contact the Harley-Davidson corporate offices in your country to get their official position on the matter. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla Which should i go for performance wise? V&H or Screaming Eagle?
I have an 09 custom and I have the recirculating exhaust type system. What happens with all that? Does it come off?
Do you mean a balance/crossover pipe? Yes, the whole exhaust is removed including that piece. It would not be used. -DrewZilla
RevZilla could you tell me what the purpose of that pipe is? Is So ugly looking 😂
It balances exhaust pressure between the two head pipes. -DrewZilla
Love the review! Great job!
Why are these full systems so expensive? I can get a dual cat back system on my truck for less than what I pay for the short shot system.
-DrewZilla
what pipes would put on a 1977 sportser xlh?
+cxnjkcxnvkn dklvsdjlkcnsdc We don't have any specific exhausts for your bike currently, but there are some good options out there from brands like Paughco and Cycle Shack. -DrewZilla
I'm planning to throw these mini on my Iron 1200, have heard these are hard to tune, is it true?
They're not difficult to tune at all. Most people just install a full exhaust along with a Fuelpak FP3. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vance-hines-fuelpak-fp3-autotuner-for-harley-2011-2019
220 degrees is not complete coverage. Complete coverage would be 360 degrees. Also the covers don't prevent bluing they hide it.
Full coverage as in covering the important parts of the system as to not burn you......bit of common sense would tell you that though.
Nothing against Anthony, but it's good to see other staff members doing product reviews.
That's great to hear. Keep the feedback coming. We are always open to suggestions. Shoot us an email at cs@revzilla.com. Thanks! -Hi-Viz Brian
Maybe in bikini 😂😂😂
Ups it wouldn’t be about bikes then right 🤔🤔
so do i need to retune my bike if i take the baffles out of my short shots?
If you have already tuned the Shortshots since installing them, then you probably don't need to retune without the baffles. If you are using the Shortshots with the stock Harley exhaust tune, then you should retune. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla thankz alot for your help. i think i need to get on your website and order a fuelpak then. thank you once again.
are completely decatted?
Yes, the Vance and Hines full exhausts for Sportsters are de-catted. -DrewZilla

Hi Ravzilla!
How much the postage cost to Saudia Arabia?
Unfortunately, we cannot ship exhausts and other oversize items outside the United States. Postage for other products depends on size, weight, and value. -DrewZilla
What Harley is that in the back ground ?
It's an Iron 883. -Hi-Viz Brian
Thanks
Very good video! Thank you.
Sorry my air filter is a Roland Sands Design turbine air cleaner
I'm gonna call just to see if I can get Lemmy on the phone... XD
Did you call?
No, I chickened out....hehehehe
Too bad we can't buy/use these in Europe :( exactly what I'd want!
Very good! Thanks
Tnx ur information sir
Exceptions to XR1200s ;(
Who the heck is Liam?
V&H SSS best
I think the stock exhaust looks the best
Ive melted more pants on vnh than Hines has pickles
Heinz?
Sounds like a bigger bike tbh...
Like triumph bikes who say the use the best finishes to keep the bike looking good. Total BS
Your putting chrome on a black bike ....ha hah!
Will the Vance and Hines short shots for a 2017 883 fit on a 2017 48 or is it specific
The same set of pipes fits both the 883 and the 48. -DrewZilla

What is the hole on the side of the screaming eagle pipes for and can it be plugged of use on a bike that dont need it
For us
Are you referring to the O2 sensor bungs? If so, you would need a threaded sensor plug. -DrewZilla
