Child Left Behind

Parents of children with cognitive challenges in Putnam CT found that the public school was not providing reading expertise their children needed. Strong parent intervention motivated the school to hire a reading consultant, Dr. Maureen Ruby, and Dr. Ruby helped a veteran teacher gain the skills she needed to teach children who would otherwise have been left behind to face life as illiterate adults-- First Place Winner in the Documentary Short Division of the Broadcast Education Association's 2011 Media Festival.
