    One of my dreams are to cycle in London. Early summer day, 4-5am no traffic. Cycle and familiarise with London. Explore it.

    It's so nice to see so many bike lanes in a big city like London. I don't recall any of those back in the 90s when I used to cycle a lot for a few years.

    Thanks @Alex Golubovs , it's a real gift to travel with you through London.
    I come in few months by bike and I can't deny I'm a bit afraid about the intense bike traffic 😧 !

    Noticed a CS or two last time I was in London; nice to see them in full use. As you can imagine, Glasgow's equivalent is *much* less used. I don't travel at rush-hour and it's rare to have anyone else waiting at the junctions with me. It did look quite chaotic at points, especially when mixing with pedestrians, and lack of traffic light discipline. Thanks for posting.

    Fascinating! Leaving a message before watching the video entirely (but will). Great work capturing the energy in the city. Such a vibrant cycling community that I wish we had in New Orleans. The jockeying for position at traffic lights reminded me of the dance between scooters and cars in Rome, Italy back when I visited years ago.

      The rate it is going, you might not have to wait that long. I can't understand how anybody can afford to drive a car in London. I guess they negotiate good deals with their employers or something.

      @@phoffen3829 negotiate good deals? u think every person in uk gets a car from their boss? don't think so, their are so many cities in europe that buy their own cars like for example here in Copenhagen its a really bike friendly city i myself bike here as well, but their are people that still drive to and from work and to pick up their kids from school, they all buy their cars, theirs no such thing as a good deal or free car from a company hell no, nobody got time to spend all that money on a person driving around all day.

      Hate to say it though if they can't make revenue from cars the next thing they'll do is make it mandatory to register your bicycle. They'll argue that it will help fight bike theft and will help maintain cycle lanes etc. It will apply to anyone 18 and above and probably start at £10 per year and then lo and behold it starts going up every year. Sorry for the conspiracy theory and doom and gloom approach but I can see it happen. Like everyone else I love cycling, just don't want to see it ruined for a quick penny.

    • @ddrhazy
      @ddrhazy Год назад

      @@UncleDavey They're not going to do that. It's already difficult to enforce current registration for cars.

    I see the difference between cycling in Netherlands and London. IN Amsterdam they ride much slower with city bikes, while London is mostly rode bikes with faster travel speed.

    man, out in the midwest, I can easily attain 18-22mph averages throughout my morning commute ride on open roads. I like that bikes have places to go here, but ironically it's way too small. The one time adding more lanes would actually help lol.
    The bike lane (bi-directional) should be about 4-4.5 meters wide, it looks to be about 3-3.5 meters wide in most places.

    • @Gallywomack
      @Gallywomack 10 месяцев назад

      The width of lanes doesn't help, but the main issue is sequencing of lights. Look how much waiting at reds there is in this video. I used to commute 10 miles into London from the 'burbs before all this infrastructure was built and could generally manage around an 18mph *overall* average, occasionally pushing 20. I never jumped reds then or now, there were just fewer of them then. Now there's no chance whether you use the cycle lanes or ignore them and dice with traffic. 15-16 mph *moving* average is all that's achievable these days (by me, anyway!)

      The majority of these is starting on red lights not an excuse but you can see the cross traffic lights change and vehicles stop, plus there is a pause between changes so not as dangerous as it seems as you just get moving no hard motorised acceleration.

    Your cycling is poor - closely overtaking other cyclists, weaving through traffic carelessly and jumping red lights.
