One of the best lines in rock..."I'm looking California and feeling Minnesota."
i know! 🙂 it's the line that stood out for me when this came out. never forgot it. agreed, great line!
Also...."I cant get any lower even though im sinking"
Best line EVER!
Cornell's melodic howl still gives us chills. RIP
Been listening to Soundgarden for 30 years now. The music gets better and deeper with every year.
Roger that
You’ve just experienced what many consider one of the greatest and most powerful voices in rock. Including me. Chris had an astonishing amount of vocal range and raw power, which you can hear for yourself on many other tracks. Some of his lead vocal performances are seriously just jaw-dropping. I hope you will investigate his work further because as a singer he can blow you away.
The lead singers of grunge like Chris Cornell, Eddie Vetter, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain and others had incredible range and powerful voices. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots are bands in this genre you should check out. “Fell on Black Days” Soundgarden song written from a perspective of depression is very powerful. “Plush”-Stone Temple Pilots, “Would” “Man in the box” & “Rooster”-Alice in Chains, “Jeremy” “Evenflow” & “Black”-Pearl Jam. Also a collaborative project of “Hunger Strike”-Temple of the Dog with both Cornell and Vetter singing together.
Nail on head. 🤘🤘
I agree , the grunge came at a time when everyone was getting tired of meaningless slapped together solo's , and party with a hair band music , Grunge brought in how people felt about real life people living in a dead end town , it got away from the bands getting all of the girls , liquor , and living like someone or something you would never be after growing up.
Not to be mistaken with Hair band was crap music , it just had it's time in History
For the record, you need to listen to Layne, Chris, Mark and Jerry on the tune "Right Turn"..... I'm 56... these Dark Angels that walked the planet that were the Grunge Sound are my generations gift to the music world.....
*Eddie Vedder
“The Day I Tired To Live” to me is exactly what depression feels like, when you can’t win for trying. It’s my all-time favorite Soundgarden song!
Yelling but not yelling is also known as “belting” 😂
Greatest Rock singer ever. RIP, Chris 🖤
Lanye ... But still, Chris is 👍🤘
@@adods9824 respect.
Chris had a one-in-a-billion voice and a beautiful soul. Gone way too soon. Whether it was with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Audioslave or his early/late solo work and his amazing covers- he left us with a ton of great music. RIP
He wasn't in Mother Love Bone - maybe you're thinking of Temple of the Dog.
@@scottarnest8980 my bad!
Kim Thayall's guitar tone on this was just PERFECT!
Listen to everything you can get your hands on from this band. Well worth it. No time will be wasted.
I love this sound, it's heavy and groovy with the drums and of course Chris Cornell always nailed it
R.I.P. Chris. Hope you are with all your friends that left too noon and may you be happier now. What a powerful vocalist.
It's still hard to believe that Chris Cornell left us. He was the best voice in rock music of our lifetime. I was lucky enough to have seen them twice and they were just wonderful. I appreciate y'all checking their music out. RIP Chris. Your absence is noticeable.
I agree on greatest rock vocal status for sure but he shares that spot with Rob Halford and Ronnie James Dio.
..yeah, I miss him
There was nothing like this back in 1992. They get lumped into the "grunge" category but they were so much more than that. You should do a deep dive into this album.
@bpschmidt4707 "Mind Riot" destroys me. :)
"I was tight rope walking with two ton shoes..." @@terencemccormick8178
Alt metal, really ... 🤘
if Chris Cornell is not on your shortlist of rock's greatest vocalist, you need to scrap that list & start again 😎
Chris Cornell has a legendary voice. This is probably my favorite Soundgarden song. Such a great sound and lyrics.
You are right that Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington were close, so much so that after Chris Cornell took his life, Chester Bennington took his life on Chris Cornell's birthday.
Chris/Soundgarden is timeless and rules.
One of the best Soundgarden songs, where Chris's vocals are amazing, is a song called "Slaves and Bulldozers". Listen to the recorded version. You won't be disappointed.
Chris Cornell's well is so deep, he's absolutely the best singer of the grunge era. This is an early tune from them. He got much more refined as the years went on. This is nowhere close to his best vocal performance even with Soundgarden. His vocals in Audioslave are my favorite. But the songs he did with Temple of the Dog are my favorites. If you want hear him at his greatest I think "Say Hello To Heaven" is his best song. "Hunger Strike" is the other great tune from that album. I'd go there next. Before getting into the later Soundgarden albums and Audioslave.
Best : Layne 👍🤘
I love the poetry.
You should listen to Alice In Chains love, hate, love live at the Moore next. Really good performance! Great video!
Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden were (not the only by any means but are known as the Big 4 of Grunge all out of the Seattle area) - Chris was such an insane vocalist, a master peerless songwriter, and went on to lead a 2nd huge band in the 2000's Audioslave, and ended up playing solo to end his career in the most heartbreaking fashion. This song is as Grunge as Grunge gets!
Chris Cornell had the best voice outta the entire Seattle grunge bands. Hands down. Listen to his acoustic stuff. He does a version of Nothing Compares to U and a crazy version of Metallica's One to the music of U2's One. Incredible. R.I.P. Chris Cornell.
Layne Staley had the most incredible power and vibrato, but I’ll have to agree with your assessment.🌿🌸
1. Layne 2. Eddie 3. Chris 4. Scott 5. Kurt ...
The guitar/bass player was a part of soundgarden and nirvana...who happened to then do multiple combat tours as a ranger/sf in iraq/afghanistan.
Cornell is one of the greatest voice instruments ever...
One of the last truly great rock(grunge yes of course) bands. Cornell was vocal unicorn
Awesome Reaction right after the first break, you both seemed engaged to truly enjoy this magical band!! Free your minds from the term Grunge for the full experience !!
🤘🏻🔥🖤🔥🤘🏻
They're badass - Pretty noose 👍
one of my favourites for sure. doesn't get mentioned enough!
If you think of the "Big 4" of "Thrash" (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax), similarly there was a "Big 4" of "Grunge" which were, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam.
RIP the great Chris Cornel, best sound garden song
The song Kickstand is outstanding as well. RIP Chris! Soundgarden appeared on Bill the Science Guy as an interesting fact.
Chris Cornell was a soul singer no doubt about it….this song was a lot of peoples introduction to Soundgarden….what a great song to create new fans with?Soundgarden had soul in spades 🖤
There are a live version from this song In the early 90's so good 👌
Chris Cornell was the greatest rock vocalist of all time. Also an incredible songwriter, lyricist, and instrumentalist. So many amazing tunes with Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, as well as solo work. Unmatched versatility of genres/styles as well. Check out:
-Seasons
-Reach Down
-Say Hello to Heaven
-When I'm Down

Hello Lydia!! 😊💓🤘✌️
@@laurawatters914 👋🏻
Great reaction. Another fantastic track from this album is Searching With My Good Eye Closed...it's such an epic piece!! Badmotorfinger was/is an excellent album.
Please do more Soundgarden reactions!
Grunge is raw and emotional
But also pretty heavy. I think that’s important. Either leaning towards punk or metal or both
Such a good heavy tune. Chris shines on the vocal. Check out the tune Rusty Cage! It rocks
Check out a song that Chris Cornell sang in another one of his bands - Audioslave - Live a Stone
Grunge came around in the 90s, and Soundgarden will always be with us. "Show me the flower child, all I can say is that I'm down on my knees today."
One of my fave songs!! ✌❤
And remember that vocal is without autotune and recorded to tape.
The pre-chorus is absolute fire.
Hey guys you NEED to do some ALICE IN CHAINS. Absolutely amazing band from the grunge era
Opening an album with Rusty Cage, then this, is masterful.
greatest rock vocalist ever. Cornell is iconic, inspirational, ground breaking, epic. the GOAT
Audioslave:
* Shadow on the Sun
* I am the Highway
* Be Yourself
* Cochise
* Show Me How to Live,
Chris Cornell is a great singer and he was also the lead singer in Audioslave and also sang solo career.
I used to listen to Soundgarden's Superunknown and Badmotorfinger on repeat commuting over Stampede Pass one winter.
ETA. Great Albums, every track is worth listening too. On repeat.
Congratulations on 50,000 subs!
Chris Cornell was an amazing singer. He was in a few bands and I recommend all of them. Sadly he's no longer with us.
Thank you! Yes, RIP Mr. Cornell
Grunge was the clothing style, lifestyle and close proximity to the North West more than any one sound.
Gotta check out Audioslave Like a Stone..It's much later in Chris Cornells career..The lyrics are very much about death...
If you want some good late 80s hard rock give a listen to The Cult. First with Love Removal Machine and then Fire Woman.
I'm surprised you did this so soon good on you
Good starting point for Soundgarden… but lots of stuff to dig into - for a great showcase of Chris Cornell’s voice checkout Slaves and Bulldozers.
Thanks for doing this guys - great reaction!
Our pleasure Gary! More of your requests coming soon!
First time vierer here dive down the "grunge hole" you'll love it
Awesome reaction 💯. Stay with grunge, Alice in Chains - Love Hate Love Live at the Moore. Layne was another great Singer🔥RIP🖤. Congrats on your channel growing 🤘💯
1000% second this!
Thank you! More grunge is coming!
Him and the lead singer of pearl jam Eddie Vedder did a song called hungry strikes do that one
Chris Cornell was already killing it the sub metal genre back in 1988 with Ultramega Ok so labeling him "Grunge" quite frankly is an injustice imo unless you reference him as the Father of Grunge
Suggestion, Temple of the Dog the band and the song is Hunger Strike!! RIP Chris Cornell 😇💝🌹 Thank you, awesome reaction!! 😊💓🤘✌️
Check out the song and vid "Remedy" by The Black Crowes. I think you'll really like em. ✌❤
My first experience with Soundgarden. Will definitely be listening to more. How about a reaction to :Pearl Jam, Better man (live at Madison Square Garden). This is my favorite grunge band.
Pearl Jam - Evenflow is going to be next but we're awaiting copyright clearance so it may be a few weeks!
@@barsandbarbells2022 looking forward to it. Love this channel. It's been a great ride so far!
So obvious that they know who Soundgarden are
This is a pretty new post so... Happy to see new grunge fans. Soundgarden were one of the heavier Seattle bands of the 90's. Chris Cornell was an absolute treasure, but.. You might like some of the "lighter" grunge that is available. CROWN OF THORNS by MOTHERLOVEBONE, 20TH CENTURY by BRAD, FAR BEHIND by CANDLEBOX, or BLACK by PEARL JAM might be easier listening. Gotta work your way up to the true stank is all I'm saying. No big whoop. Cheers!
Chris Cornell after leaving Soundgarden, join the members of Rage Against the Machine, they went under a new name as Audioslave you should check them out if you haven't already.
🔥
To get a different style from Chris, IMO his very best non-Soundgarden vocal performance is "When I'm Down," live at The Troubadour.
Nothing against grunge...but SG was waaayyy beyond that...glad that u enjoyed this unbelievably talented band. Dozens upon dozens of incredible songs.
rip chris
No one sings like you anymore. Rip chris
In my opinion Chris Cornell was the greatest rock vocalist. He was good friends with Chester Bennington. Chester took his life on what would've been Chris birthday. Check out Linkin Park singing One More Light on Jimmy Kimmel. He dedicates the song to Chris.
People from the scene hated the “Grunge” label. It was foisted upon them by the marketing department at Sub Pop. Then again, GenX were cynical of marketing and advertising in general.
One of the great rock vocalist of all time. Check out Chris in Audioslave. Also, his solo acoustic stuff is next level. Go deep with Chris Cornell... thank me later
You should never judge a book by its cover because you might miss out on something special
This song forces the stank face.
One of the most view songs on the web , is by Haley Reinhart , Creep , taking a modern song from the 90s and giving vintage older jazzy sound .. Its easy to get caught with PMJ sound .. girls has a voice of gold .. Need to check it how many people have viewed this remake song , then listen to more songs that she has done ..
Nothing compares to you acoustic set will show his other side
The greatest rock singer since Robert Plant
Chris Cornell: Legend
Yall are missing one of the best groups of music. Chris gone to soon. RIP.
would be nice to hear your thoughts on soundgarden's "fell on black days". 🙂
Still have to try Five Finger Death Punch. Wrong Side Of Heaven. Or Wash It All Away
Cornell in his prime is what killed the 80s completely.
Chris Cornell is the 🐐 RIP
he's the best hard rock singer of all time
Chris Cornell was one of the greatest singers in the history of music
You two are so clean-cut but I can kinda seem Sam getting a tattoo and diving into a pit for one of these bands. As a teenager, I took the train from Seattle back east across the country and just outside of Salt Lake City an older "Chamber of Commerce" type engaged me in conversation, asking really earnest questions about my get-up (post-punk, pre-indie....Seattle had just gotten cable TV that year and was pretty much the ass-end of the cultural universe). I remember the whole thing fondly because the guy was really sweet. "These pins on your shirt, are they indicative of things to others?" LOL. If I recall I was wearing a dress shirt with no sleeves, leather pants and some really soft grey leather boots that I was inordinately proud of. When I got to Denver I was chased through downtown by a group of cowboys who either wanted to kill me as a faggot or for stealing their women (and I wasn't about to slow down to point out how stupid the contradiction was). Being punk in the 80's meant getting your ass kicked if you wandered into normal society. I didn't realize it at the time but the Seattle music scene was AMAZING. Multiple all-ages clubs, temporary clubs in abandoned buildings, big shows at Seattle Center and really daring programming by the local radio stations. After I left Seattle for college, the city passed the Teen Dance Hall Ordinance that closed all the clubs. For about five years all the music was forced underground, into basements with lots of bonghits and cheap beer and thus was born "grunge". Thanks City Fathers.
And RUclips thinks that calling you "clean cut" is an insult, LOL. Our new AI overlords are not very smart.
What's up guys got a few bands 4 you 2 check out while you're on the grunge topic you need 2 hear Alice in Chains lead singer passed away in the 90's but he has the sickest voice and ik you just got started with Guns n Roses but def get into them more and the Beastie Boys you guys won't be disappointed 3 of my all time fav bands.
I understand that people have different life experiences. But how can you be the age you are (I assume), 20's/30's and not have heard of Nirvana?! Did you live in a religious cult or under a rock? They were the biggest band of the early 90's. HUGE!
You almost said aboot.😂
Live version of Pearl Jam’s Black is also great. Same genre.
More grunge please
As someone who grew up with this music, I think “grunge” is confusing to a lot of people. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, sound nothing alike to me. You could link Soundgarden and Pearl Jam because of Temple of the Dog, and Mother Love Bone. They were all from Seattle, but that’s about it. They all have links to each other socially, but the sound wasn’t the link. Maybe the look, we certainly all dressed in combat boots, flannels, chain wallets, and beanies with shoulder length hair. That really wasn’t consistent with all the bands either. It all goes back to location. To Seattle. Just my humble opinion.
this to me is more border line rock n roll/grunge than real grunge. i liked it.
There's Chris and Layne.... I'll toss in Freddie.... that's it kids!
That's Chris Cornell, he died too soon at 52
Grunge was a specific music scene that began in the late '80's in Seattle. Your band didn't have to be from Seattle to be a grunge band but without the Seattle music scene - there's no grunge sound. Movements in art always have a genesis - a point of origin from where the movement first began before it spread elsewhere and influenced others. To understand grunge better - you have to go back in your time machine that you are building mentally as you review more songs - remember back to the late 80's - and what was dominating the music charts ? It was the music that dominated MTV. That's how powerful a force in marketing that MTV was back then. It's where the masses listened to music before the Internet. Did MTV influence the top of the charts or did MTV simply reflect what was already popular ? I suspect it's both - as momentum creates its own momentum - but by the late '80s - 'hair bands' were all the rage on MTV. These were bands created and marketed by the big record labels based on what the labels thought young people wanted to listen to. These hair bands were marketed with a heavy emphasis on 'style' with very little substance. These cheesy bands made simple songs mostly about partying and sex - filled with images of platinum blonde sexy women - all because that's what the record labels thought young people were into. Meanwhile - an underground music scene was developing in Seattle - influenced by West Coast punk - these grunge bands performed in small venues and built grass-root followings of fans. You were right when you said Nirvana was a grunge band - they were actually the first grunge band to explode onto the scene - as their 'Smells like Teen Spirit' song became an overnight sensation - can you believe on all places - MTV. Yes - MTV - the corporate backed music broadcaster was unknowingly spreading the music that would lead to its own demise. Literally overnight - the hair bands were out of fashion - and many of them saw their popularity / record sales plummet. Their contracts terminated. The best example i can think of for comparison is the launch of the iPhone - where overnight - everyone realized that the old cell phones were obsolete. So too did taste in music radically change. Flashy and gaudy spandex outfits with glittering styled hair became passe - as the grunge fashion took over - layers of old clothing complimented by ankle-high black boots. To me - it was a glorious moment - a time when the universe righted itself. I'm actually hoping for another miracle as i feel history repeats itself and we are in need of another re-alignment - but it's also possible that i've just grown old (54) and no longer understand the tastes of young people. But there's always hope...anyways - thanks for your reaction to this one - hope you do more grunge.
Would you do The 1985 live version of Night Ranger’s, Don’t tell me you love me
I’m about as far away from gay as you can get,I’ve never had a problem with gay people tho….never, who am I to judge or tell who someone who they should or shouldn’t love? Chris Cornell from like 90-94 was one of the most impressive physical beings I’ve ever seen …..chicks went crazy over him before he even opened his mouth to roar 🖤y’all stay safe
