Having a parent show love by preparing special/cute bentos is common in Japan. Kotaro puts special effort in making his own bentos so classmates won't know that he doesn't have parents that care... this really touched me.
thats probably not even all of it, he might be doing it to give himself the love he can't have so he can be "complete". As a neglected kid myself the last thing i wanted was for people to think that it was my parents and not me that got me that far
It's human nature. Adults can be petty and selfish when it comes to each other, but there's a natural instinct to help children, for the sake of the survival of the species. And when you live in a modern society where survival isn't as competitive than it was in the stone age, were you had to ensure the survival of your own offspring, even at the expense of another, it allows that altruistic part of human nature to come through.
@@stevenhiggins3055 I know that most adults are nice to kids but I saw some just tell kids asking for simple help to buzz off. They can just tell them they're busy and they're sorry but they just choose to be mean

It's fascinating how total strangers are being way nicer to him than his own actual family. This show is probably trying to show that personal circumstances don't define the norm of a society.
It’s amazing, when he makes bento by himself, you can see that small glint of happiness in his eyes (which comes rarely) and how they become big when he sees the bento made by every one. These tiny details adds depths to the character and tugs your heart 💜
Nawww he chose to ask others in company of making a bento because that’s what the mom offered to the daughter. ‘Then how about we make one together’ Kotaro was trying to do what he saw in replacement for what he didn’t have which meant even if it was with complete strangers, even if it was for a brief moment, he was able to achieve what it was like for a caring figure to put thought into his own lunch.
Considering his neighbor is an artist, it would be cool if he made a bento for Kotaro in season 2. Both cause it would mean a lot to Kotaro and it would look awesome! (Calling it now 😂)
This lad is going to grow up to be well adjusted. He learns from his surroundings and keeps on working. Being able to ask for help with anything is hard enough but it’s that more satisfying when you have a group of people giving you ideas. You have that connection
We had Ousama ranking about an underdog. Now we have Kotaro lives alone which is a sad story of an abandoned child. Art wise both can pit people off from it. Story wise, they both cut deep into our emotions.
