    A note to anyone wanting to get a G43, modern ammo is way more gassed then what the germans fielded during the war and the G43's gas system was designed to compensate for fouling and icy conditions. Please do yourself a favor and buy a gas kit, it'll severely reduce the recoil, save you and your coveted rifle from potential over gassing/breakages.

      Like I posted earlier, change the recoil springs every 500-600 rds and it'll keep running without any over-pressure issues. Unless it's been modified to lower the gas pressure, there are two ways to do it that I'm aware of, putting in new springs is a must. If I just bought one and wasn't real familar with it. The first thing I would do is put new springs in it. They are easy and cheap to get from Wollf Gun Springs. I've been shooting G43's for 20 years and Just passing on what I've learned. Good luck with it! all they do is go up in price, even mismatched shooters.

This rifle gets a lot of bad stuff said about it but with new springs it's very reliable. Great new production ammo with the correct military weight of 198gr. you there. The Romanian stuff from the 1970's is 150 gr but it's pretty clean reliable and cheaper than that Privi for plinking.

    • @Grafvollundr
      @Grafvollundr 2 месяца назад

      They are over gassed, but it’s from a combination of things
      Like mentioned, springs wore out fast partially from late war shortcomings and partially by the design. The springs are fairly small for what they’re supposed to counteract in the action. They are functional, but these rifles were definitely not expected to last 80 years. Their designers were more worried about the next five years.
      My ‘44 is pretty rough around the edges, quite literally really. A lot of polishing and smoothing is missing on non functional surfaces, tool marks are visible and the finish isn’t great, even when considering its age.
      Secondly, German wartime ammo was pretty hot for its day, but it does not compare to modern powders and pressures. M1’s suffer the same problem.
      Really cool rifle though
      Hits bucks like a truck, and doesn’t mar the meat too much either

    If the bolt looks similar to a Tokarev, that's because it basically is. The first version of the rifle, the Gewehr 41(W), used a gas-trap action called Bang System (after it's Danish designer) which turned out it didn't do so well in adverse conditions. So when the Germans encountered Tokarev rifles in Russia, well, they basically yoinked the action for themselves.

    A friend and WW2 vet had one of these all broken down and in a box since he returned from the war, in the mid 1970`s, he challenged me with putting it all together, I did and then test fired it, a very interesting piece with butterfly lugs in the bolt that retract when the gas piston driven rod pushes the release back.
