Never tried the kvd and the megabass are overrated. But this is my go to hard body bait type. Experiment around and you’ll find it as a go to as well. If I ever NEED to get bit it’s a jerk bait, drop shot, or ned rig.
KVD crankbaits are my go-to year round. I've caught my best bass on them. I just purchased a KVD J200 jerkbait today and will try it out this afternoon! KVD baits catch fish and are a must-have for a tacklebox!
It's pretty awesome how KVD is talking about how jerkbaits can cause reactionary strikes if it's in the view of bass and why jerkbaits can be viewed as a year-round lure because it is exactly what I've experienced during the summer and fall and is why I heavily and religiously experiment, learn, and utilize this technique!
Caught me 3pounder today in my local pond using KVDee's twich twich pause ..twich .....cadence blows my mind how it worked thanks a million ....not a huge catch but here in el paso tx. Its a perfect catch especially in December in the middle of trout season here thanks again Kev your a jerk bait God brother !!!!
Jerkbaits work well for any species. Walleye, bass, pike, lake trout...whatever. You don’t have to do any fancy retrieves either. A straight retrieve works. But you can mix it up a bit and add pops and jerks as you please...pauses work too
I just bought my first jerk bait in perch color. I haven't tried it out much because Northern Pa. the water is cold and bites aren't happening on my lake yet but I have been practicing and after watching this I noticed that I was doing it wrong. I was reeling it like a jig slow and jerking it. Now I noticed that you don't reel it much. I'm glad I watch this video. Back to the lake for more practice.
Im not kvd obliviously but honestly kvd will say one lure and another other pros will say something else. Depending on where your at and the waters you fish. the best lures for each different body of water might be different so try it and buy new lures and expirament with it in all the bodies of water. Then whatever stays consistent with catching fish or producing big fish in numbers that would be the best.
Definitely worth a try William, especially if it's not too weed infested. A standard jerkbait will dive to around 3-4 feet. Just adjust your rod position higher or lower to get the bait to run deeper or shallower and you should be good to go. Tough to beat a minnow profile! Good luck -- curious to know how you do. Sounds like a fun urban adventure.
Ok so , can anyone tell me . South Mississippi Pascagoula river , pretty clear usually or pearl river usually not clear , where do the fish go in October . Water starting to cool but not fast
@@brianlee677 i guess its just me. I hate em never buy them again. This yr I switched to fc sniper did okay....idk I guess the cheap mono suffix does its jobs for me.. funny cuz the suffix mono memory is less than the fc sniper also.

Yes, we'd just recommend changing the hooks out to a more friendly saltwater hook (corrosion resistance) such as the VMC Coastal Black Series O'Shaughnessy Treble: goo.gl/gLvRiY
We (wired2fish) fish a wide variety. We like the two VMC hooks listed below, but Kevin is a huge fan of the Mustad KVD Elite Series Short Shank Triple Grip Hooks (goo.gl/r4iOBj), which he helped design. He discusses them in this video: ruclips.net/video/d69KQqt3OUA/видео.html Wired2Fish's Preferred VMC Replacement Treble Hooks: -VMC 7545 Spark Point Treble: goo.gl/us7aiy -VMC Short Shank Round Bend 1X Treble: goo.gl/CQrSAu And here's a good recent video by Ott DeFoe on why and how to swap out hard bait treble hooks quickly and effortlessly: ruclips.net/video/OkUezKdDJqo/видео.html
It's the opposite actually. The thicker the line the more resistance there is in the water. The thinner it is the less resistance so a bait will dive or fall faster on lighter line. Fluros higher density causes it to sink faster then mono but the same principle still applies with line diameter.
.....Bet if you trolled that point at the end of that bridge (right where the dropoff is) and bottomed bounced a walleye setup, your have some luck. Just a guess...
@wired2fish, why don't you use braid? can get smaller diameter with more poundage, and no stretch. Just curious. You're the pro, not me. I'm nowhere close to that. Most bass fisherman i know are going all braid, some with a 3-5'shot of flouro.
Jerkbaits have tiny hooks and most braid floats. So there are advantages to fluorocarbon when you want to get a jerkbait down. Very few pros go all braid. They use braid for finesse applications with fluoro leaders on spinning rods. And heavy braid for fishing lures around heavy grass. Otherwise most pros are using fluorocarbon on their baitcasting reels.
I've been using braid with a fluoro leader for jerkbait fishing the last couple years and love it! Keep the drag set a little on the loose side and use a 6'6'' to 7' medium action rod
Eric Lee is it worth buying and trying some jerkbaits when I’m about as far south as you can go in the US and near the Mississippi River at that. That’s to say...very low visibility water
Hi Sam, are you referring to his competition jersey? If so, you'd have to contact a custom apparel company like Gemini Sports Marketing to get one made: g2gemini.com
I love these jerk baits. They are some of my #1 go to’s in the winter when the water is in the low 50’s or 40’s. Especially the he gold sexy shad or the regular sexy shad
Suspending is the most common and versatile. A slow sink can be good in cold water or fishing deep whereas a slow rise is a good option during warmer water periods.
Boy, there doesn't really seem to be one color all guys agree on for clear water. The general rule of thumb is just go with something that matches the forage the best - really can't go wrong there. But the flip side to that is sometimes a totally non-natural color smokes them, especially smallmouth. These two videos demonstrate this: 1) ruclips.net/video/5lMiWNG42f8/видео.html 2) ruclips.net/video/He6svmpX_Gg/видео.html

J.B.M J.B.M I would like to see it be made mandatory that all classics/elite series be fished electronics free. These guys are supposed to be the best of the best, prove it! No GPS, depth finders, side imaging, nothing.

Technique, presentation, pattern recognition, accuracy and bait selection are ALL more important than your fixation on electronics.
KEVIN, I love your jerk baits. But I am yet to catch a fish jerking it. I cast, reel down to desired level, pull straight and level, stop and hold tension. I then pull 2 short straight pulls with the rod reeling up the slack and holding. THE LARGE MOUTHS AND SPOTTED BASS CAN'T RESIST IT!!! Note: the hooks are TOO SHARP!!! THEY CAN'T GET CLOSE TO WOOD! The old style hooks are SAFER and MORE PRACTICAL for fishing around bushes, trees and logs. YOU CAN'T EVEN PICK THEM UP WITHOUT PIERCING YOUR FINGERS! Try it on lake murray, sc. No small mouths. Note: They hit it hard while holding it still and level!!! SORRY!

Do you use a sinking or a floating one
nice video I was fishing on the des plaines river the other day and was using a jerkbait but didn't catch a single one
What part of the Des Plaines you were fishing?
Do you ever put weights on the jerkbait? Or just use the weight of the lure?
No added weights. The jerkbait itself is already weighted with ball bearings and the treble hooks.

Fluorocarbon line has 2x the density of water so bigger diameter lines will sink the bait deeper.
