    I got mine by lurking and looking for sales. Finally found A5 Pro+ on clearance for $100 and it's been a great beginner machine. While I do NOT get results like the video when cutting, I will say the machine does very nice engraving on glass, wood, painted or anodized metals, and it does excellent ceramic tile engraving with the white paint method. I'd say it's a very good beginner buy since I was 100% clueless when mine arrived, and I was burning wood the same day!

    I was looking for a paper cutter. I need to make hundreds of custom cards a week, thus automating the cutting would improve the speed drastically instead of manually cutting it with scissors. How does it handle paper cutting?
    How clean are acrylic cuts? What is the maximum acrylic cutting depth?

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Год назад +1

      It will cut paper just fine on lower settings. Acrylics wouldn't go thicker than 3mm and black is the colour you will get best results. Cuts will be clean - if you get the settings right. Its a 5W module so don't expect miracles but for paper cutting you don't need a lot of power.

    I found a seller on the Walmart website about a month or so back who had the AtomStack A5 Pro listed for 49 dollars, and ordered it figuring that the order would get cancelled as there was no way I would be getting a Laser engraver that lists for well over 200 dollars for that price. Imagine my surprise when it didn't get cancelled and I actually got the item I had ordered. Other than opening the box to verify the contents I haven't done anything else with it yet, I need to figure out how to calibrate / setup the printer so I can get easy to reproduce results so I can make stuff to give as gifts and even some stuff to sell when I get everything ready to also start selling my 3D prints

    So mine just showed up today, and the quality of the parts and the absolute best packaging , add that to a black Friday price of $229 delivered. I almost can't go wrong, I got this to accent my wood working, I do not intend to cut but the capability is really good, I am using Laser GRBL and that is really simple for a NOOB like me, As my skills grow I am sure the machine will allow me to do more. • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Год назад

      It doesn't support Bluetooth. This is a cheap basic laser. It will be fine to start of you adventure with lasers. But there are better machines that easier to put together and easy to operate. However they will cost a lot more. This laser is more for engraving, if you want to cut material then I would suggest a stronger module. All depends what projects you want to tackle.

      It's a diode laser. CO2 lasers are a totally different type of machine, they are more powerful ie they can cut thicker materials a little quicker but they are much more expensive than the diode lasers.

    So the add for this says its 40w do you know why the discrepancy? I noticed on the pic you had the laser go diagonal why?

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  2 года назад

      40w is just part of the name of this laser not its power. Confusing yes. It's a setting in the software, you can go horizontal, vertical or diagonal. Sometimes you can get getter engraving quality when it's set up in different ways or in some cases depending on what you are trying to engrave it will be faster. Just another option that's worth checking out and seeing what works best for you

      It doesn't engrave aluminium, it will engrave stainless steel and steel. It also won't engrave brass, copper, silver, gold etc for those you need a red dot, infrared laser

    I can’t get my laser to cut anything like these settings. I can barley get it to cut thru 3mm

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Год назад

      All depends what material ate you trying to cut. You will struggle with dense hardwood plywood and a 5W module. Low grade softwood ply will cut easily. You can buy plywood that is dedicated for laser cutting, it's less dense. Same where it comes to cutting wood. If you try to cut pine then you will have no issues however if you try to cut dense hardwood like oak you will struggle. If you bought a laser for cutting mainly then 5W will not be as good and efficient as 10W.
