All of these depth map solutions I find discussed on RUclips are online, and I really wish there was a good solution one could run on local hardware. I suppose everyone wants to commercialize the process but since so many local AI tools exist I would have thought at least one versatile depth map solution could be run on one's own system.
AI models run on GPUs and have high hardware requirements. For me as an engineer it would be a pain to run these models reliably on my own machine and is not worth the trouble compared to running them on GPU servers in the cloud. That is the reason why not only the effort to create this kind of software costs money, but actually processing your image as well.
@ I guess to elaborate on my response, I already have a ComfyUI AI image generation workflow running on a Threadripper Pro system with two RTX3090 GPUs. The ComfyUI workflow is elaborate but it would be perfect if I could get that level of depth map processing tied into it. I just haven’t found a solution to do that.
@@dinoscheidt Not all of them, use the rigth platform and it's easy to run even in system ram.. I manage fine with a 6gb gpu that's not even gaming card.

The Z version is the only one that kept the bump over the ear area. Also, the dark circle you said was an AI artifact was in the original image. Overall, a great and useful comparison. Thanks.
I don't do this any more because there wasn't much money in it, at least for me, but I found surprisingly Ligthburn does a really good job with just a quality 3d grayscale render. If you look at the documentation it actually says it creates the real depth map on the fly. Have you tried that? Also, why would you do a Gaussian blur if you really wanted sharpness to detail. Seems counter intuitive. Always like trying the new software as well!
