    When Avi was a college kid he wrote soulful, emotional work, beautiful things that seemed to be the essence of him. It seems that he's back there only much more professional and accomplished. I love this song and video and cannot wait to see what else hes written this past year. Going to see him live next month and I simply cannot wait. By the way, he said he had some percussion and an organ in this piece but all the vocals and layers were done by him.

    I've heard from people that he tweets that he did ALL the vocals. Even the higher choir sounding vocals and the low background growls is him. Yes, many tracks of him doing each part then blended together.

      The whole background choir was sung by Avi. There was also some percussion and organ mixed in.

    Hi! I've read somewhere that the only instruments used for this were percussions and an organ. Avi did all the vocals. About the matching release day, I have no idea. Avi started "teasing" us on March 18th with his "Friday" post and Pentatonix did the same the day after (the "coming soon" thing) but it looks like a coincidence to me... About the song: I really like it and I looove his voice! Beautiful tone. Thanks for the the reaction!

    I love Avi’s voice and am so glad he is gracing us with his talent. Since you appreciate richness and emotion, react to Disturbed’s version of “The Sound of Silence.” It was released quite awhile back, and is different from their previous sound. Look for the live performance on Conan. It’s amazing!

    The bass drum is Avi's voice.
    Also listen to his "Sweet Adaline" (extended version) and you can hear him sounding like he is whistling.
    That is his whistle voice.

    If you enjoy Acapella, there is a Vocal Country band called Home Free. I think you will enjoy them even if you are not into Country Music. They are upbeat, and have an unbelievable talent. Their bass has a 6 octave vocal range. Avi Kaplin performed with them doing Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire.

    The reason for the same release dates was that they had been figuring out some legal stuff from when Avi was with PTX and that was the first date either could release anything new. Avi states on his new website that even though he couldn't release anything that he has been writing daily. ❤

    I suspect that they released their music on the same day by accident. They need to plan these things far ahead because each step of the process takes time: recording and mixing audio, filming and editing video, rolling it out to online stores and streaming platforms, and teasing the fans. Unless PTX and Avi went out of their way to talk to each other about their release plans, they'd have been just as surprised by the same-day release as the fans were!

    Avi can sound double tracked because of the incredible natural resonance of his voice. That's an essential for the overtone singing he does. You may want to check out some of the things he did when he was much younger and his voice was still maturing; you can see the progression of his voice. The attached is a song he wrote himself at about 22 or 23

    Initially I couldn't figure out why Avi left Pentatonix , but now I know. He was just too good to be relegated to singing bass line for other songs not suited for him . His voice and ability was being under utilized and he needed a space to showcase it.

    • @Tharena
      @Tharena 5 лет назад +4

      Avi left PTX because the breakneck pace of the band was keeping him away from his family when they needed him, and it was sapping at his soul. He wanted to be fair to both his family and Pentatonix, so left the band. It's allowed him to both work on his own music, but also maintain a connection with his family. If you look at the albums, Avi was featured more often, particularly in the stuff the band wrote instead of covered. Hallelujah is only a small example of this. Standing By was pretty big: ruclips.net/video/YTKgu97dzYI/видео.html Yessir, that pretty lead vocal is Avi, and one they integrated into their show set.

    Okay, I do like your reviews, but I could’ve done what your doing with minimal effort. I clicked on this video to see a vocal coach’s opinion, not just a review. All I’ve heard from you is praising how good his voice is as well as the music and video production, not mentioning any technicalities with his singing style. To me, this is more of just a plain reaction. If that’s what you’re going for, then fair enough, but don’t title it with “Vocal Coach Watches/Reacts to...”. It’s almost click-bait.

      I agree, I can pick up the religious imagery, Moses before the burning 🔥 Bush, leading the Isrealites to the Promised Land, a call to arms.... But the coach referenced Madonna 😂 And I was expecting a professional critique of his ability, for example when he ends the line with the word "Strong" its actually lacking punch for me. But it's an engaging piece which shows the extent of his range and ability. The fact that he is hot as hell is a bonus!!! 😁
