So far because of your advice I have gotten employee of the month 2 out of the 3 months I have worked at mcdonalds. And This is the first time I've been in the fast food industry, I normally work construction or factory jobs. your advice is amazingly on point! I work the grill and fryer station at my mcdonalds, and i constantly am keeping my fryer station clean from grease and steaming the grill to clean off burnt on residue. I’m taking a semester off to try and become manager (8 months). I love my job so much and I really want to make a career out of this. I literally show up an hour early to make sure the store is running smoothly and they don’t need any help. If they don’t need help, while I’m waiting to clock in for my shift I find little tasks to do just to help my team out (changing garbages, stocking up etc...). I don’t feel comfortable asking for a promotion because I feel like if I deserve it they’ll step up and ask me. Is this bad?
Dont know how i got here bc i sure dont wanna be a manager and get paid $2 more just to work hella overtime and not get paid for it and make schedules and be responsible for everything 😭
2 dollars and not paid for overtime? I could be wrong but I think pretty much every fast food place pays for overtime and managers get way more than just 2 more dollars and hour.
I've been working at a fast food place for four months myself and really love it. I've actually been thinking about trying to go for a manager position in the future, but they wont let me train on the board hardly at all and it's frustrating.

I can't comment about McDonald's managers but I did work at a company owned Taco Bell a long time ago, as a lead employee (sometimes a night manager, but never the store manager). The managers back then were treated like crap. A huge amount of turnover. Managers came and went. Some quit but most were fired. Managers were expected to work an enormous amount of hours for a flat manager salary. The company took advantage of the managers enormously. Pay and benefits sucked. The job was a huge amount of work. Standing and hustling from the early morning into the evening. The one thing working at Taco Bell taught me is this isn't something I would want to make a career of. As you get older, it also something physically and mentally you can't continue at the same pace doing. If you are a manager, you got to look beyond that. A different career eventually, or maybe working in the corporate offices.
I asked my Assistant manager at Burger King how I could get kitchen training. She replied,"Do a good job out there," referring to the dining room. I responded that I have been doing good out there, that she even said I was doing good out there. I pleadingly said, "Tell me what I need to do and I'll do it!" She responded, It's just impossible." Managers there would take part in bullying me along with my coworkers. According to the police my Assistant manager even thought it was funny to subject me to misdemeanor battery. She also said, "You're so.......sad." Because I wouldn't lie to a customer's face about his order. He was an elderly gentleman who ordered decaf. This assistant manager told me to give him regular. He asked if it was decaf, I didn't feel comfortable lying to him. For all I knew he had a medical condition and his doctor told him to switch to decaf.
You did the right thing bro ! Especially since you have the open mind to understand that everyone can't have the same food for health reasons. Keep doing you man, fuck those whores !
Remember that everyone is supervised by someone in a business. The crew is supervised by the shift leader, the shift leaders are supervised by the restaurant manager, and the restaurant manager is supervised by a district manager, who works under an operational director. That operational director works under the CEO of the company, who has a responsibility to shareholders. Shareholders obviously don't work for the company, so that's where this chain ends. If you have a problem with one of the shift leaders, and you can't work it out together, you come to the restaurant manager. They will usually have plenty of experience in conflict resolution and chances are if someone's being obnoxious to you, they are obnoxious to more folks. Which means the issue is already known and you're simply adding to the urgency of this issue being dealt with. Either way, the RM needs to do something. If they don't try to work things out, I wouldn't straight-up go to the district manager; I would first tell the restaurant manager that I'm not satisfied with how the conflict is being resolved (if at all) and mention that I'll file a formal complaint to HR if they don't take action. HR is its own branch and will need to act; if they don't, that's a company issue that you can't just resolve by going higher up the ladder; you could issue a complaint with the works council about how the company is treating its staff and resolving serious staff complaints about management. If you don't feel comfortable doing something in service, don't participate in it; if you have a good restaurant manager, again, they can handle this if a manager big-mouths orders that directly contradict good service. The manager-in-charge is "in charge" as the name suggests, but doesn't get to change the rules or purposefully sabotage the orders. These are generally things that a franchise will take very seriously. After all, their brand is built on giving people the same thing over and over again, not on every random manager deciding what products will be made as instructed by that brand. I wouldn't go as far as to participate in something that's not exactly a criminal offense but isn't doing right by the customer, but then, after complying, tell the customer how we broke the rules. Standing up for yourself is good, but in this case, honesty would've needed to come in sooner as now all it does, is damage the credibility of the brand. Of course, this doesn't take away that these managers sound like they put the customer last and that's never a good thing. It's unfortunate that you had this experience; I guess there's quite some variance from country to country, district to district, in how BK stores are managed!
I started at McDonald’s last week my manager told me that I’m a fast learner and I agree with that and she don’t want me to quit because she’ll be sending me to manager clases once I get to know everything in the store which is not hard at all first couple days is always going to be hard but after 2 to 3 weeks you’ll be fine.

McDonald’s is my first job, I started in September of 2020 and it’s now April 2021. My manager classes are at the end of the month. I know I can do it, the only issue I have is I’m anxious around my GM because she’s hard to talk to and her wife owns the store 😂 but she loves me, just has a hard way of showing it

Thank you! It's going to feel like that the first two weeks but after, you'll do way better and feel more confident. Don't worry! People mess up all the time no matter how long they've been working. Feeling bad and sad shows that you care, so as long as you learn from it and try not to do it again, then you're forgiven.

Idk what to do because I cant work as hard as I do without being paid adequately. Over 6 months of this and I rarely get breaks.
Well, if your employer promised you a raise, and fails to keep it, then it may be time to look for another job-an employer who will appreciate your hard work. When I was ready to leave my first job, I continued to work until I landed a new one. Once I got a new job, I put in my two weeks and left on good terms.

@@xFANETORS at some Macdonald's, there is a position in the grill area called the grill manager which is basically a manager who runs the grill area. They usually decide who takes out the trash, when people will go to break, who will be at what position etc.
What if someone accepted a promotion shift leader role and attended 1 class then spoke with the GM that there not ready and say they don’t want the promotion 3 months later they asked again by GM and they said yes to it and attended 3 classes this time and sent the GM a text message saying they don’t want the promotion and feel pressured to say yes can they get fired for this?
I work at Chilis and got a second job at Mc donalds tomorrow is my 4th day they started me in the kitchen. But im familiar with their register pos system because i used to work at one mc donalds before and on my 3rd day the general manager wanted to see if i could handle different positions she said *because youre my future manager* that felt so good. I’m 17 atm and I know you have to be 18, I doubt they would want to make me a manager when I turn 18 since I’m still in high school and I plan to go to university. I already work a lot (40+ hours when not in school, 27.5+ when I’m school since those are the max I get scheduled and I pick up shifts. I am also one of the strongest workers there and one of the most experienced. What would say my odds are of being promoted if I follow these steps
Hello! I did not leave Taco Bell, but I am currently taking a break because I am attending school in another town. On the other hand, when I return to my hometown, I'll be working at Taco Bell again.
This only works in places w nice ppl like you. Try working in the ghetto places I have. Hard work? Shit , that'll just make lazy employees & shitty managers notice that they can plop their work on you. 12 jobs @ closing @ Wendy's between the 3-4 of us including manager. I had to do 6 of the 12 jobs & sometimes the 1 job they manager had which was to count inventory in the freezer bcuz.....her fingers got cold. Finally , I walked out on them when they insisted (challenging me to a physical fight, told you they were ghetto, HEYYYYY🤣) when I refuse to do ALL 12 jobs @ closing. Smh , I'm off to CDL school next month 🤗
If the person is passionate about the company then yes. Managers get a raise, a full-time position, and more benefits, so I think that is what keeps the people who may seem miserable, motivated.
I'm a little older, and have worked in many different fields from retail, factory work, restaurant (fine dining), and fast food. FF was by far the worst. Least amount of pay and most stressful. I'd only recommend it unless it's your first job and you have no other options. I think some people who like it, probably have never worked in another industry and don't know their are much better jobs out there. Still, it's not an easy job ( I tend to get pissed at people who think it's simple work, many of them couldn't hack it I would guess) I have respect for people who can do it as a long term job.
I do !!! My Mc Donalds started me off at $14.50 i also work at Chilis grill & bar and im actually very miserable there and make $12 depends on the person
It's all depends on you... Somebody may like office work , while another may like construction etc.. Don't let someone stop your hustle or courage because they wanna "oh your a fast food manager😂" but yet come through at 3am wanting 20 items. Do whatever you wanna do in life, just remember whatever you do, do your absolute best !

Hello! I did not leave Taco Bell, but I am currently taking a break because I am attending school in another town. On the other hand, when I return to my hometown, I'll be working at Taco Bell again.

This only works in places w nice ppl like you. Try working in the ghetto places I have. Hard work? Shit , that'll just make lazy employees & shitty managers notice that they can plop their work on you. 12 jobs @ closing @ Wendy's between the 3-4 of us including manager. I had to do 6 of the 12 jobs & sometimes the 1 job they manager had which was to count inventory in the freezer bcuz.....her fingers got cold. Finally , I walked out on them when they insisted (challenging me to a physical fight, told you they were ghetto, HEYYYYY🤣) when I refuse to do ALL 12 jobs @ closing. Smh , I'm off to CDL school next month 🤗

If the person is passionate about the company then yes. Managers get a raise, a full-time position, and more benefits, so I think that is what keeps the people who may seem miserable, motivated.

I'm a little older, and have worked in many different fields from retail, factory work, restaurant (fine dining), and fast food. FF was by far the worst. Least amount of pay and most stressful. I'd only recommend it unless it's your first job and you have no other options. I think some people who like it, probably have never worked in another industry and don't know their are much better jobs out there. Still, it's not an easy job ( I tend to get pissed at people who think it's simple work, many of them couldn't hack it I would guess) I have respect for people who can do it as a long term job.
I do !!! My Mc Donalds started me off at $14.50 i also work at Chilis grill & bar and im actually very miserable there and make $12 depends on the person
It's all depends on you... Somebody may like office work , while another may like construction etc.. Don't let someone stop your hustle or courage because they wanna "oh your a fast food manager😂" but yet come through at 3am wanting 20 items. Do whatever you wanna do in life, just remember whatever you do, do your absolute best !
