@@nethanr.t3403 No, you can study something else then apply for medicine while doing that course. Maybe a BSc or something else relating to health, but you must do well there as well.
Taking a gap year just because you want medicine is risky because even if you pass well at matric year end, there is no guarantee of admission. So rather apply to study something you qualify for and then keep applying for medicine while studying.

@@sphinx30 old grade 12 results. If you state that you’re upgrading then you don’t have to meet the requirements because they’ll use your upgraded results when you send them.
For provisionally acceptance it is impossible, I won't lie to you. I am currently doing Medicine at Wits, and I have friends from other universities, provisional acceptance is important but also should a space be available you must make sure your final matric results are perfect and your NBT is exceptional but if you don't get provisional acceptance on your Grade 11 marks chances of you being accepted are just about 0.001% there's too much competition in Medicine.
@@BoitumeloMasesi-gp5ez There is too much competition in Medicine...a required APS is 36 but they select the ones at the top. So I would suggest you do a bridging course, but also make sure that your final matric results are good and your NBT is good just in case a space becomes available.
Most universities only allow you to apply for courses that you qualify for based on your Grade 11 report. It’s built in on the online system.
