Thank you so much for making videos like this. I have been doing weighted dips, and today I got to 12 sets with 50 pounds, though I only did 5 on my last set. You’re going to help me get big and strong bro!
Alex doing weighted chin-ups for 4-6 reps in a severely disadvantaged position at a slightly higher bodyweight with 70lb added is absolutely insane. Gotta give that variation a shot
Two things man. First, the calisthenics are back! I really enjoy your videos about calisthenics and you are pretty much the reason why I incorporated weighted calisthenics into my training instead of sticking to only bodyweight. Second, holy shit man, you are looking huge! Theres a serious improvement from your videos from like 1 and a half or 2 years ago. You have been really putting in the work. Motivating as f*ck seeing and advanced athlete like you still make some noticable gains. Keep it up!
You look massive, it's impressive how you can still perform so well in calisthenics despite being so heavy (and you even add a lot of weight, wow). You clearly know how to train properly and maximize both performance and looks 👍🏻 PS: this is the biggest and leanest you ever looked at 185lbs, congrats!

Hey Alex, great vid. and looking jacked to the rafters. Calisthenics sure surprised the hell out of me when I started to implement them into my workout routines three years ago. Who would have ever thought that one can build massive rear delts doing certain types of push ups by hand placement variations or that inverted rows using variations of grip and width could add so much mass to the whole back. Man, I wish I knew this 40 years ago.
What a complete athlete! Always enjoying a gym bro going of side of the comfort zone and improving on different aspects of training. Definitely crash the bars at a heavier state! Wonder what you would capable of calisthenics wise on your next cut.
years in gym and i was always skinny besides training hard to failure. 2 year quarantine with weighted Calisthenics and got huge.doesnt even have weight plates just heavy rocks and dip belt 😎😎
Everytime I come to this channel after a while I just get mindblown by your physique & strenght bro, you are literally body goals, my respect to you, I've seen you for years, but bro you are in top shape, crazy amazing
Hey Alex in terms of adding weight to your weighted pull up, what’s a one rep max that you think would be equivalent to 20 strict body weight pull ups?
It's going to depend on your BW, I'd say plug your BWx20 into a 1RM calculator (and subtract your BW from the calculation ofc). Mind you, 1RM calculators aren't that accurate past ~10 reps
Very hard to say and there's no point speculating especially since the reps are so vastly different, not to mention bodyweight being factored in. Why not just max out brother? You'll determine what the ratio is for you. For me, I can do a good 35 reps when peaked.
Been doing some ring push ups and other variation and dang it changed my physique to a new level compared to just doing bench press. My shoulders feels pretty good too. It's all thanks to you man!
its so simple to get a massive workout on calisthenics, vertical and horizontal push pull and some arm isolation, heck even you can hit facepulls or T/Y raises with rings
was excited to see the that you posted a calisthenics vid. Since I recently moved my training from the gym to more bw focus (outside workouts) for the duration of the summer. Btw Looking huge man!
I always take my rings when I’m on holiday. Great for a deload week. Or a tough week with variety. Side lats are the only upper body part I struggle to cover with rings. You can do face pulls too.
Hang upside down on the rings and do an "upright row" with your bodyweight. Hits traps and side delts. I've never really heard/seen people do em, but I do em weekly. Get a good weighted stretch on those traps, and side delts work as secondary movers. Maybe not as isolating as cable side raises, but better than nothing that's for sure. I'm a digital nomad and travel monthly. I can work pretty much everything with a set of rings, a travel pullup bar (mostly to attach the rings to), some bands (though probably don't absolutely need them if I'm clever with the rings), and a Nordic curl bar. Pistol squats hammer my quads. Last trick I have to replace deadlifts is as follows. Hang from the rings and put your feet on a chair. Your body should sort of resemble a v. Your feet and hands should be about the same height if setup correctly. Flex your glutes and hamstring as much as possible to back bridge as high as you can. Return to a relaxed state Basically it's a full range of motion hip thrust if you set it up right. Move slowly to maximize the squeeze and focus on full range. Between that and my upsidedown bodyweight rows/shrugs, I got a somewhat reasonable deadlift alternative. Not 100% the same, but close enough for a travel gym...
@@richardtrass it's easier than it sounds (I'm 20%bf and can't do handstand push-ups). I can bang out maybe 6 or so. You let your your feet hit the pull-up bar or ring cables so you don't need to stabilize, then engage your traps, biceps and side delts. I'm probably explaining it poorly. But once you take the balance part out of the equation, it's really not that hard. Definitely alot easier than a handstand push-up. Closer to a bodyweight shrug. Either way, give it a shot sometime. It's a good weapon in the bodyweight arsenal on rings... Another thing to note is I'm very short. So this maneuver is easy for me to setup in a door frame with my pull-up bar. Height doesn't affect the overall difficulty of the movement, but it DOES make a difference If your rings are rigged up some place less than ideal, where you don't have much height clearance with your rings. Assuming that is NOT a factor (your rings are suspended from something proper and tall enough) then mostly anyone should be able to flip upsidedown and do the "bodyweight inverted upright row" (that's what I'm calling it I guess).
@@jeminigemi thanks for the detailed explanation. I’m fine with handstand push ups. Taking balance out helps. You’re deadlift alternative with rings looks interesting too

I jave been doing your Novice program, but using calisthenics (push ups, Inverted Rows, Tricep push ups, Chins, Pike Presses, etc.) in place of the barbell movements. I seem to be able to recover better at my age of 60.
2 full body workouts along with 1 bodyweight in the middle is a great approach for me atm. I can't fully quit the gym since there are important movements that just cannot be replaced like squat, some hinge movement, OHP and isolation work, but at the same time I find calisthenics workout to be better suited for going to failure and builds work capacity, plus it's enjoyable.
