    Traced the letter from my phone💪
    Used the phone like a light pad and made a small tag.

    I made 50 of these this past winter to give as Christmas gifts to my extended family! I found that my hand was not always steady enough to dip pen the long curvy vines and it took away from the appearance. So I, (don't judge me) used a 0.38 and 0.5mm black gel pen to do the sumi ink outline. Worked out great!

      What?! That's amazing! No judgment here -- if you're making a big batch of something, especially, shortcuts simply need to be taken. Go, Peter!!

      Manuja Gupta here from India. I too have developed slight tremors recently. So, thanks Peter for this information. Will certainly try it.

    Purple goes so well with the gold. Traditional regal colours.

    • @LindseyBugbeeTPK

      I couldn't agree more! I read an interesting story once about how purple dye became associated with royalty because it is made from the secretions of sea snails. It's hard to extract that dye, and you have to sacrifice a lot of sea snails to do it -- so, only the über wealthy wore purple. 👑

    • @dcarbs2979
      @dcarbs2979 3 месяца назад

      @@LindseyBugbeeTPK Not only is it insanely expensive both then and now. I've seen by experiment it takes about 40,000 snails to dye one robe. But at some times, colours were restricted by law as they denoted rank amongst the nobility (In England at least). Purple was reserved only for royals. Even nobles who could afford the average modern day house price to buy a purple robe, they weren't allowed to wear it! By 'buy', I mean have it made. They weren't just in the shop waiting to be sold🙂

    Love your tutorials, I actually picked up that book from watching an earlier tutorial you had shown. I know you have a friend that produces paints but there is a woman in Canada that does a wonderful line. Her business is called Beam Paints, it’s a small family business on Manitoulin Island. She has a beautiful gold along with so many other lovely colours.. Give her a try the paints are beautiful

      Her paints sound gorgeous! And I'm so glad that you have the book -- some things, like the book this alphabet comes from -- are just timeless. :)

    Dear Darling Lindsey 😊
    Manuja Gupta here from India. Bothering you yet again. I love working on black. Could you suggest combinations for such letters because I won't be able to use black for outlines. I have regular gouache, metallic gouache, metallic watercolour and the Finetec gold palette (of course). (Owe my growing collection of paints to you and your tutorials😁)

      Maybe try writing the letter in white, then outline in gold? Or use a colored pencil to make color and outline that in white (like in this tutorial: thepostmansknock.com/youre-a-gem-just-because-card/)

    I’m trying this today, and I’m positive I have Sumi Ink (can’t find the original bottle.). BUT, when I get to that part, it bleeds terribly into my purple watercolor. Did I do something wrong? How can I avoid this?

    • @LindseyBugbeeTPK
      @LindseyBugbeeTPK  Год назад

      That's a pretty common problem! Watercolor makes the surface of your watercolor paper not super ideal for ink ... what I try to do is draw just on the outside of the watercolor, not directly on it, if that makes sense. Really helps with bleeding!
