This is the only detailed serious PC Build Guide on the Internet.. As I did not have use for it, i watched it only to know if I can send it to people who ask me how to build their own PC... Thumbs up from me
+Geno Ivanov (FeraL) he spread the thermal paste, he wiggled and applied pressure to the CPU, like pretty much the entire CPU installation was a little bad
I have to agree with many other people here. The video is put together very nicely. You didn't rush the process like some other tutorials, you didn't try and speed up the video at any point i saw, and you defined all the parts and how they work and plugin extremely well. Also you didn't try and lock the camera at one point, or make the viewer follow one specific way of doing something. You stated a few times that there are a few ways to do some of the steps and it depends on the experience and the person and I have to agree. Really i got bored today and decided i would look up some gaming PC builds and also recommendations. I have probably spend at least 6 hours just watching RUclips. This video in my opinion was the best I have seen so far. I followed this very easily and to be honest, if i try and build a PC I plan on following this video because of how clearly it is demonstrated.
I really appreciate that he took the time to zoom in so we could actually see what he was doing. He also makes slow, calculated movements so you don't have to get a migraine trying to keep up with what's going on. All the other how-to videos I've seen were just some jerk babbling about what to do, while doing it at (what seems like) lighting speed, from an angle where you couldn't see a single blessed thing. Plus he even tells you, albeit briefly, what to do after you start the computer. Pretty cool. While not perfect, this video has been immensely helpful. Thank you!
NEVER WIGGLE THE CPU ONCE IN! YOU CAN BREAK THE SMALL GOLD PINS THAT ARE LOCATED ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CPU AND IN SOME CASES, INSIDE THE ACTUAL CPU ARRAY/SOCKET. IF JUST ONE OF THESE PINS BREAK, YOU CAN'T BEND THEM BACK. YOU HAVE TO BY A NEW CPU. THIS IS A PAIN IN THE ASS IF YOU HAVE MADE THIS MISTAKE WITH A 5th GEN 8 CORE i7 (XEON SERIES) WHICH AVERAGES AT AROUND $1300-$1500. THE ONLY FORCE THAT YOU SHOULD EXERT DURING THE CPU'S INSTILLATION IS WHEN PUSHING THE ARM DOWN AND THEREFOR CLOSING THE LID THAT COVERS THE SOCKET. I AM WRITING IN CAPS SO 1ST TIME BUILDERS WILL READ. YOU'RE WELCOME.
No I already know how to build a pc I just like watching people build them although I feel like I learn a little more every time I watch someone build them :)
Wow. I'm not going to build a new PC for a while, so I thought I'd get a head start on knowledge, but holy shit, I just became mesmerized in the beauty of PC making. An entire 47 minutes of shit I won't need to know for the remainder of the year, and I somehow found it entertaining.
For the past several days I've been researching on how to build my first pc, and I find this the most complete and well explained guide of all I've watched. Congrats!
holy crap this was the most clear and best like how to video ever, so clear and obvious and really makes me feel better, imma be watching this video while i build my pc!
Thanks a lot! Very useful guide. I have just finished my first PC assembly (bought a PC for grandma) using all of the tips. When PC has started correctly I have almost started to cry. Those were tears of happiness. Feel myself like a god. Thanks a lot!
I just completed my build thanks to this video. Other videos are longer and yet still cant explain certain things that they automatically think people know such as wiring things to the mobo and whatnot. This video was very helpful. The best I have seen.
A lot of pc community don't like to admit it, but building a computer is not cheap as they want you to believe. That because you need to spend money on the *Mid-Tower, the Motherboard, CPU, the CPU Cooler, the Power Supply, HDD, SSD, thermal paste, Air or Liquid Cooler (if your mid tower doesn't have one already), a mouse, keyboard, a operation system* and often even a *monitor, a desk (if you do not have one on your own, a office chair or any other chair, the screwdriver* and *speakers*. If you build yourself, you'll have to buy those things separately, and the price can add up fast.
Also building a computer can be difficult and stressful because there are a thousand things that could go wrong, and any one of them could wind up costing hundreds of dollars. Which mean you need to do a lot of research on each part to know which mean *HOMEWORK*! So, there is a lot of thing that pc builders never told you which in my view is a very disrespect on any community.
+linkzellda If you have a monitor most of the time you dont need speakers if you dont have screwdrivers well i dont know what you do in your life most houses have one, chairs? just get 1 in your house (or you dont have chairs either?) you dont need a cpu cooler unless you are overclocking your cpu you also dont need an ssd or thermal paste, all in all you can make a better pc with the money that a console cost and if you dont want to do your homework then pc is not for you is that simple.
If you want to learn how to build a computer, this video is literally the most perfect thing ever. It helped me build my first computer and sparked my interest with computers in general! Thank you so much, amazing video!

So after you wipe the CPU and heatsink down with rubbing alcohol... do you just leave it there? Let it dry? Go at it wet? Wipe it off with a paper towel?
***** I find that on AMD, wiggling is bad. Very bad, bent a couple of bins doing that on AMD cpus. But on intel I've yet to bend pins due to the wiggling.
Very helpful, I used this video the whole time and paused frequently, you did not confuse me at once. Very happy with this production and my new gaming pc :DDD
I've watched a few other videos, and this one is the most accessible for newbies such as myself. Good camera work, easy-to-follow instructions, great explanations. Thanks so much!
Wow! This deserves more views! This greatly increased my knowledge about computers and has helped first time builders like me to understand what every parts is and where it goes inside the computer.
does a AMD a-series processor come with a stock cooler with re-applied thermal paste? Im planning on starting to buy computer parts to start building a gaming pc, so i need some help with this processor stuff. (Im new to this)
I love this channel too much! It inspired me a lot so that now I have lauched my own vlog channel. Prior, it shows me as the "talent programmer" I am(I can do the work of 5 devs), how small stuff could become very big in terms of tech business ideas. And Now still being inspared.
To be honest ive gotten to quite like windows 8. At first I wasn't so sure but it has a ton more features and a whole new store. Its amazing if I do say so myself.
This is by far the best tutorial I've seen. I'm building my £3,600 PC tomorrow so this video cleared up one or two naggling questions I was asking myself! Thanks for the great vid!
You have to just do it. If something is wrong then something is wrong you will never know until you turn it on. Chances are you probably won't do any serious damage.
Buildpucipuci02 no bro it is easy as fk belive me now i am tying this to u on my pc i build a pc and i am only 16 just hold from edegs and dont touch the pins then set it on the mother board u will feel its ok then lock it there thats all :D
Thanks for the video. This was the first I watched on building a PC. Gave me the confidence to do it and completed first ever build successfully with my son today so thanks again
Spreading the thermal paste is not necessary and often leads to higher CPU temperatures because there can be air bubbles between the CPU and the cooler. The easiest and best way to do it is the pea-, line- or x-application. Don't use too much thermal grease. A little pea in the middle is enough. Like he said in the video. The pressure of the colling unit will do the spreading for you and the heat sink is actually 2 or 3 times bigger than the actual CPU inside. That's why it's not necessary to spread the thermal paste to cover the complete heat sink. There are many videos on youtube. Just search for "thermal paste" and click onto the first This is a great video. These new cases are just so much better. My old NZXT Apollo doesn't even have a hole in the back, so I replacing the cooler with a different one would require removing the board... I thought about cutting a hole in there myself, but I am not going to replace any parts in the near future and if I will build a new PC one day, I'm just going to buy a new case. That's no fun, it's really annoying and I really recommend buying a case with cable management and a hole in the back which is big enough to provide an easy access like the case in the video. It makes thing much much MUCH easier.
for those wondering about the case: www.amazon.com/Corsair-Obsidian-Black-Computer-CC650DW-1/dp/B004UE1W9K/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1355269422&sr=1-1?ie=UTF8&tag=thetecrep08-20
As good and helpful as this video is, and it is!, I find the guys voice EXTREMELEY irritating!, jeeeees, get a bit of gumption will ya, you boring me to death man!
I saw research that agree's with you... spreading leaves and uneven finish and as such air gets trapped as micro bubbles which gives you less contact area. The best way was actually to use a small x shape using the same amount as the pea shape. This gave the best distribution across the chip and like the pea eliminates the possibility of trapped air.
This was really helpful, i'm building a new Gaming rig, and i haven't built one before.I was going to get an AMD processor with an intel motherboard. Saved me from having to return the processor.
+Derpy Gamer I don't think it really matters how long the video was made, because I don't think Len was trying to talk to the channel....but tell people watching the same video today and the days to come, to not do this....PEA TECK KNEEEC!
Derpy Gamer And? People are still watching this video, and reading these comments to this very day. If you can't deal with me commenting on something that was last active from like a month, then RUclips isn't for you.
Just completed my first complete build thanks to this video. Best one out there and I had previewed a ton. Sound, production and perfect level of detail without being overwhelming. The first build went perfect! Not one issue, although I could have done a better job on right panel organization. Thanks!
i have seen a lot of PC building videos but this is the best one everything is shown in detail its a perfect Pc building video awsome guys thank you for the video..............
i feel this guide is very useful as i just bought parts for my custom computer and received some of it and sorta preparation for when i get the rest of the parts.
A good Note for the Intel Socket.. the little black Plastic guard over the CPU socket can be left on. When you install the CPU and then proceed to close the black plastic guard will just pop right off. :D
Thanks to this video I was able to build my very first pc today with no problems :DDD A very good guide that covers everything you need to know, ill definitely recommend to others thanks!
the thermal compound expands when it gets hot so the air bubbles end up not being there. plus, it's not an air tight setup so air will go in and out anyway
no it goes into the pci slots on your mobo, some can be plugged into your usb port but i dont want that the be taking up space, i know it plugs into one of the pci slots where next to the graphics card would go
Very, very nice video, this answers a lot of questions beginning PC builders might have. This would've helped me the first time I built a PC completely from scratch, a few years ago! Nice filming and narrating, this must've taken a lot of time to make. BTW, I didn't realize BIOSes have improved so much since a few years back; full color, mouse support and all!
Non-reference video cards are factory overclocked with custom PCB's that use more power than reference models set by NVIDIA. You can expect around 10-30W more power draw on aftermarket coolers as they usually add more power through their custom PCB's to support higher efficiency and fans.
Yes. Almost if not all normal cases can take 3.5" HDDs. I wouldn't go for that case personally because it looks a little cramped inside but if you're ok with that then go for it; it looks pretty sweet and has good cooling.
So, just to clarify, after you have download windows and finished the bios, we go on the internet to download the drivers. We first download the cpu then the motherboard, and then the graphic drivers. Once that is done, we install the windows update. Is there a specific order we have to do this in or can we just do it the following way the video did it?
Depends on that, if the heatsink or a liquid cooler have it installed before, but if it doesn't then yes you have to do that. Avoiding attaching thermal compound will end up frying your cpu and may damage the cpu or motherboard pernamently. (I suggest you to put it on the CPU)
You need to read how refresh rates are used for one. The pull down setting has more to do with tearing or flicker. So running 2 SLI cards on a 60hz rated monitor can produce great results. Given the monitor is set at 60hz vertical. Most new monitors produce well over this on horizontal and even go above it on vertical. Check the manufactor specs. Also running ultra settings will drop frame rates dramatically.
About static electricity, an insulated surface will hold static electricity. At 2:48 what you say will help people kill or degrade their equipment... At least the subject was raised, most build videos show the builder pawing their equipment with no ESD control at all. A great way to manage static charge is to install your PSU first and plug it in, thereby using the mains earth to keep your case at earth potential. Keep touching the case during your build and you should be fine. Building in low humidity means you have to be extra careful.
Nice video! Now I'm excited about putting a pc together. I'm still slightly on the fence about simply buying a Digitalstorm pc, but I realize that if I buy all the parts and build a pc myself, it'll have way better parts, for less.

MrFiggets AMD requires a bit of pressure(just to hold it in place), intel does not require pressure, and he did not apply pressure to the intel one :)
+Geno Ivanov (FeraL) I've installed AMD CPUs without applying pressure and it works fine.

This is the best guide of build and configure a PC of RUclips!
I build my pcs completely naked, so I don't have to worry about static coming from my clothes.
Well okay then, good for you...
Thanks a lot! Very useful guide. I have just finished my first PC assembly (bought a PC for grandma) using all of the tips. When PC has started correctly I have almost started to cry. Those were tears of happiness. Feel myself like a god. Thanks a lot!
awesome video! this is the best i have seen yet. And you have a quality voice!

You are the bob Ross of RUclips pc building. Big ups! :)
Been watching pc building videos for a few weeks now, but this one is the absolutely best.

Also read the post with more carefully before tried to point the obvious here.
+linkzellda You could always plug in your tv and sit on the floor
lisa lavergne That if you find the floor comfortable.
There are newer videos but this is still my go to guide for new builders. Great work
Best build guide I've found! Thanks
This is by far the most useful guide for building a PC I have ever seen on the Internet. 10/10 any day.
set the speed to 1.25
1.5 even
I wish I could do that on mobile.
If you want to learn how to build a computer, this video is literally the most perfect thing ever. It helped me build my first computer and sparked my interest with computers in general! Thank you so much, amazing video!
I am watching this before bed, his voice is so soothing

Would just like to say, this has saved my life in terms of building my custom gaming rig (I'm upgrading an old computer and when I looked inside it just looked like a mutated jigsaw puzzle) so definitely give this a watch; it may be a bit long but look at some of the other PC building videos on the right and you will see that this is pretty condensed.
Thanks. Very clear video!
0 idea about what to expect when building my new pc.
Now it is much clearer, what to do, install, connect and so on.
Thanks for this great guide!
I could fall asleep to this voice xD
Me too. LOL
i did...
Isnt his voice so soothing
Well done tutorial, every thing was explained with little detail left out 10/10
So after you wipe the CPU and heatsink down with rubbing alcohol... do you just leave it there? Let it dry? Go at it wet? Wipe it off with a paper towel?
It dries fairly quickly on its own since its alcohol.
dry it well with lint free dries fast
(insert innuendo here)
this is one of the most comprehensive build guides i've seen
BUT HE DID SEVERAL THINGS WRONG
DON'T wiggle the cpu once its in.. jesus christ
its to check if its seated well
***** which is why you do it gently
***** I find that on AMD, wiggling is bad. Very bad, bent a couple of bins doing that on AMD cpus. But on intel I've yet to bend pins due to the wiggling.
lol
pcgaming today You'll ruin the pins that way.
Very helpful, I used this video the whole time and paused frequently, you did not confuse me at once. Very happy with this production and my new gaming pc :DDD
Great video, but the monotony nearly killed me.
Like seriously.
Sounded okay to me.
I've watched a few other videos, and this one is the most accessible for newbies such as myself. Good camera work, easy-to-follow instructions, great explanations. Thanks so much!
DO NOT take the processor cap off. Leave it on until the procesor is in place
+Len Ismyname THAT IS CORRECT!Thank you. I have processor cap ocd.
i am good and awsome god you need professional help with that that's how me Mum died
Wow! This deserves more views! This greatly increased my knowledge about computers and has helped first time builders like me to understand what every parts is and where it goes inside the computer.
do you need to apply thermal paste on to the processor, or can you just install the fan without it?
ya you do or you'll get problems with overheating
most if not all stock and and 3rd party coolers come with thermal paste re-applied, oh and yeah you need it or the cpu will overheat.
does a AMD a-series processor come with a stock cooler with re-applied thermal paste? Im planning on starting to buy computer parts to start building a gaming pc, so i need some help with this processor stuff. (Im new to this)
Josh Clark yes all current CPU's come with stock coolers with pre-applied thermal unless it's something in the lines of A FX-9590.
Thank you!
This is a very helpful video, this is the first video I have seen from you, subbed
Umm this guy kinda sounds like he might kill me in my sleep...
His voice put me too sleep, and then i woke quickly before the murder could take place. Jokes aside, helpful video so thank you Mr Man.
I used your video as a tutorial for my build and after 3 hours it works perfectly! Thank you!
actually the first thing u should install is chrome ;)
yeah the only good thing internet explorer is for is installing chrome
joseph red I have Chrome installer on a thumb drive.
the first thing you should install is windows
X/2 Not everyone wants to use Windows m8
Topias Salakka Same goes with chrome

To be honest ive gotten to quite like windows 8. At first I wasn't so sure but it has a ton more features and a whole new store. Its amazing if I do say so myself.
There are advantages to windows 8 even if you don't like it
it uses less resources for better multitasking
go home windows 8, you're drunk
^funny guy.
This guide has been 1 of the best i have watched!
Bery informative in only 45 minutes.
Guy was easy to understand and very clear.
Thank you very much!
But he was wrong in several places
Does anyone else build their PC's naked?
+dogsRoxXD to reduce static
Yes, good grounding.
dogsRoxXD what skin is that?
dogsRoxXD it's good for grounding yourself less static charge
This is, by far. the best PC build video out there!!! Thank you for such a straight forward approach.
Your not really supposed to apply a lot of pressure when installing the cpu
This is by far the best tutorial I've seen. I'm building my £3,600 PC tomorrow so this video cleared up one or two naggling questions I was asking myself! Thanks for the great vid!

I hate the way this guy makes sounds while he's talking
Jorge Garza
^*/Yeah humans make noises when talking.*^/
Im not talking about his voice
Jorge Garza I understand what you mean. You can hear his tongue sticking to the roof of his mouth. Lots of saliva sounds. Horrible voice for this.
Go look up Austin Evans... His voice pisses me off.
montygram Austin has a TERRIBLE voice for making RUclips videos IMO.
This was really helpful, i'm building a new Gaming rig, and i haven't built one before.I was going to get an AMD processor with an intel motherboard.
Saved me from having to return the processor.
dont fucking spread the compound like that, it will leave bubbles and shit. use the pea technique
Derpy Gamer dude, pea technique
PEA TECHNIQUE FFS
+Derpy Gamer
I don't think it really matters how long the video was made, because I don't think Len was trying to talk to the channel....but tell people watching the same video today and the days to come, to not do this....PEA TECK KNEEEC!
Derpy Gamer And? People are still watching this video, and reading these comments to this very day.
If you can't deal with me commenting on something that was last active from like a month, then RUclips isn't for you.
Derpy Gamer Sounds good xD
the BEST PC Building VIDEO IN THE WORLD
Would this be any good for gaming? And would you be able to upgrade it?:)
A very extensive and coherent How to build a PC video even BIOS setup !
Just completed my first complete build thanks to this video. Best one out there and I had previewed a ton. Sound, production and perfect level of detail without being overwhelming. The first build went perfect! Not one issue, although I could have done a better job on right panel organization. Thanks!
Best PC BUILDING video PERIOD
i have seen a lot of PC building videos but this is the best one everything is shown in detail its a perfect Pc building video awsome guys thank you for the video..............
i feel this guide is very useful as i just bought parts for my custom computer and received some of it and sorta preparation for when i get the rest of the parts.
Is this good for a beginner builder? I might build a PC and might do this
Great guide and very professionally made. You boys are stepping up!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!! This is actually the first time i have seen i a build video with cable management thank you good sir.
A good Note for the Intel Socket.. the little black Plastic guard over the CPU socket can be left on. When you install the CPU and then proceed to close the black plastic guard will just pop right off. :D
Same here.
Also good to get extra information about different ways to build computers. =)
Thanks to this video I was able to build my very first pc today with no problems :DDD A very good guide that covers everything you need to know, ill definitely recommend to others thanks!
I'm only a few minutes in and already very impressed. I can send this to people now, instead of trying to walk them through it myself. :)
the thermal compound expands when it gets hot so the air bubbles end up not being there. plus, it's not an air tight setup so air will go in and out anyway
I already knew all of this, but i still watched the video because your voice is somehow relaxing.
no it goes into the pci slots on your mobo, some can be plugged into your usb port but i dont want that the be taking up space, i know it plugs into one of the pci slots where next to the graphics card would go
Most do, but thermal paste is fairly cheap and if you are planning on changing out cpu's or coolers, i would keep a tube around
simply brilliant.....should have more thumbs up and subscribers.i am building my 1st rig and this made things so much easier.....thanks mate
Thnx for the amazing quality of this video! everything is very clear and clean explained, best pc build video I've ever seen
How much does the system you built in this tutorial cost? Do you have a parts list as well? Thanks and great tutorial!
You can expect around 10-30W more power draw on aftermarket coolers as they usually add more power through their custom PCB's to support higher efficiency and fans.
the best how to built a pc video totorial in youtube
best guide ive seen yes and yes the voice is soothing and not condescending.kewel jewels
wow, I'm not alone i learned at 13 and now in 15. it great to know and study. take it all the way don't stop learning about this sort of stuff.
Nice job. I just did my own and looks like you have hit all the marks. Nicely done.
