Ok, so because it is a smart object, it doesn't affect the pixles? even if you make it larger? Also, why switch to the marque tool?

B/c it's a smart object, each transformation is nondestructive/editable. (You can scale the image as many times as you like.) Switch to the Marquee tool to get the desired shortcut menu.
