You 3 are brilliant together! Ann is adorable fishing for tomatoes and excitedly awaiting her turn to add ingredients! Her joy in life is contagious! :) Half the fun was watching Brian confidently create his chili while Jane blushed at all the tweaks
I'm a bariatric patient making the change to a plant based diet. I love that this is something that I can make a batch and freeze some! It's so yummy and I love that I'm not eating the same thing forever or wasting food.
Tempeh is so healthy. The fermented soybean can be marinated and used in many ways. We shouldn't downgrade tempeh to a meat substitut. Because its not! I love your recipes btw.😁 Greetings from Germany.
My husband and I made this last night and it’s the best chili I have ever made! We added 2 large cans of crushed tomatoes and 1 can of salt free Rigel tomatoes. I increased the chili powder and cumin and I omitted the mushrooms for a personal allergy but increased the lentils. Amazing chili my name for it!
Your recipes are so yummy. I can't wait to try your chili. May I suggest a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder in Brian's recipe? He's making a large pot, so a tablespoon will work, and he may want more depending on taste. A pinch of cinnamon is good too. Tip: Let it cook a while before adding more cocoa powder. The cocoa will help to enhance the chili flavor and give it more depth of flavor. You might also consider using Trader Joe's cooked lentils.
Loved the video! Loved the Chili! Didn't have any mushrooms so substituted it with cauliflower - delish! Have made so many recipes from my Be A Plant-Based Woman Warrior cookbook! It is my current favorite - especially since I bought the spiral bound! :) Thank you for all you do!
I must say that I have had more problems coming up with a good veggie chili recipe, but this one is it. I made it last week and have been eating on it since. It is wonderful. My husband, who is a part-time vegetarian who does not like veggies, actually liked it, too. 🤓. Thank you.
That looks delicious! Love thick chili! I also add green olives to my chili and enjoy it served over mashed potatoes! I will definitely give this recipe a try!
O my I just got home from grocery shopping for the ingredients for bad 2 the bone chili, I did not know you were doing it tonite what a coincidence now I got to watch the video before I make now, you ladies are a breathe of fresh air. Thank you.
Congrats and good luck! I'm 57 and 7 years PB, I helped my elderly mother...now 81 change to PB eating 3 years ago. She's no longer diabetic and her kidney disease is not an issue anymore! Best decision you can make for yourself and there's such a wonderful online community here of supporters that can give you tips!
Excellent! I made this as is and it is terrific. Scott Jurek has a vegan recipe for Minnesota Chili that uses bulgur wheat to give it the texture you may be looking for when you brought up seitan. I used to leave out the oil and make that chili, but I like the flavor profile of this one even better-and I thought his was hard to beat.
Thank you for this demonstration. It looks great. I have all of your cookbooks but I tend to make the ones that are demonstrated! BTW, tempeh has never reminded me of meat. It has such a unique flavor and consistency. I have never tried it in chili either.
Uh yeah. Duh. I don’t bother. I enjoy lentils with water. Especially the water that has been seasoned due to seasoning it. I just drink the liquid it was boiled in.
@@galkinp I add about 1 tbsp for 6 cups of chili. It gives it this extra but you can't tell it's cocoa. It deepens the flavor. It's yummy! Especially when making chili with lentils. It tastes like there's beef broth or something. Doesn't taste like chocolate at all. Just umami. 😃
Have been liking this chili for awhile. Freeze up a lot this time of year when the garden is producing too many tomatoes and peppers to eat fresh. Did a Cincinnati variation on the last batch, which turned out pretty good, imho. No salsa or BBQ sauce. Instead of your spices, Chili Powder, Cumin, Cloves, Allspice, Cinnamon and a lot of diced garlic in with the veggies. Nice over pasta.
Me and Brian cook the same way! Add in whatever feels right and it always turns out good! Recipes are guidelines not strict rule sets (unless you're talking about baking) 😄
I love your recipes! I have a few of your books and have tried lots of the recipes. They are all delicious! Can't wait for this one. Ooo so glad I have plant strong and so far I have all the ingredients to make it.😋😋 thanks guys. Loving you from Canada 🇨🇦
So sweet how adamant Ann was to get her BIG chunk of tomato 😌 sounds like such a lovely recipe too, thank you very much for sharing - and I definitely agree with Brian, recipes are made to be changed up 💜
I need to give this a try. There are a few things in there I never thought of adding to Chili. I know initial sautéing of the aromatics makes a difference, but I've gotten lazy. When making chili, I usually just through everything into my Instant Pot and pressure cook for around ten minutes, depending on the ingredients involved. No matter how many times I do it, water sautéing still doesn't feel quite natural to me.
try using faux chicken flavoured broth or vege stock in liquid form for sauteing. it works great & adds more flavour to the caramelising onions or whatever veges you're softening.
Made this tonight...it was great! The only thing I did different was BBQ sauce I bought was "spicy hot". I didn't notice that until I got home and opened it up. Maple syrup helped .
I made this today and it was delicious! I tweaked things a bit (Jane said it’s okay). I’m still new at this (2-3 months) but I’m liking and wanting foods I always steered away from before. Adding more spice too. From years of abusing my body with bad foods, I would get heartburn easily and therefore didn’t eat peppers or spicy items. I can see that changing. It’s kinda cool! Thanks for the recipe and fun video.
Brian, we're addicted to your waffles! We'll be trying this tonight. This might become a 2nd recipe addiction! ;-) Thank you all for everything you do.
Awesome! I cook the way Brian does 😉 A recipe is just a guide 😁 Substitutions are the norm at my house. Don't sweat it Jane, your recipes are an excellent guide every time! 👍🏻
Thank you so very much for your dedication and warmhearted approach to living healthier and sharing that concept within this beautiful channel. I have your cookbook & your brothers also. Both are fantastic. God bless you both. Any plans for future cookbooks? Love from Ky 😇💕
A small amount of bulgar wheat thrown in at the last minute slightly mimics ground beef, absorbing some of the liquid as flavor. Maple syrup in chili!!! Oh, dear! That's like sugar in spaghetti sauce. Just no. They are supposed to be acidic. I use scissors to chop up salad and greens. Brian, "I like to chop them (tomatoes) up." Ann glares. lol 16 oz is 32 T--11X the amount. Oh, my! You all are so funny. Or you can feed more people by adding rice and greens or salad. Thx. lol God bless.
Oh my you guys are so funny. Live how sweet Ann asked three times to add beans then she shouted when it was time for beans to be added 😂😂😂. Love your videos guys😍
Great chili, I make the same thing, but I omit the bone sucking sauce. May I ask are those gas induction hobs safe to use inside? I thought they were for outdoor use only?
I agree! When I was typing it in the comment, my spell-correct on my cell phone changed the middle word to a different word starting with a "D". I'm glad I did re-read my comment before hitting the send button. It would have been embarrassing 🙃. Personally I would omit the bbq sauce and salsa. I like my chili hearty and more tomato based, not sweet or hot...beans, tomato sauce, canned tomatoes, seasonings, onion, bell peppers or pablanos, celery. Pretty standard and yummy! Cornbread on the side and a bowl of Chili topped with diced green onion, dollop of P.B. sour cream and P.B. cheddar cheese shredded (Daiya). Oh my goodness it sounds so good...going to have to make some tomorrow! Good luck & Good cookin to Everyone 🤗
Bryan doesn't know what tempeh is! It is fermented soybeans (or other beans) so is nothing like fake meat. It is much tastier and has more health benefits than tofu. So if you are ok, from a not-fake-meat perspective, using tofu you should be ok using tempeh.
For all my tomato dishes I add one or two grated sweet apples works really well. In tomato sauce , chilli, soups and stews. ❤
You 3 are brilliant together! Ann is adorable fishing for tomatoes and excitedly awaiting her turn to add ingredients! Her joy in life is contagious! :) Half the fun was watching Brian confidently create his chili while Jane blushed at all the tweaks
Ann's face looking at the chilli bring cooked, priceless
Just made chili last night. Basically the only changes was no BBQ sauce but added 1 heaping T. cocoa powder! MMMM
I'm a bariatric patient making the change to a plant based diet. I love that this is something that I can make a batch and freeze some! It's so yummy and I love that I'm not eating the same thing forever or wasting food.

Yes, tempeh chili is delicious!
Tempeh is an ingredient used in Indonesia a lot, where it comes from. It definitely is it's own ingredient! NOT a meat substitute
Oh Jane, you didn't "mess up the recipe", I am sure it was delicious the way you wrote it!

Yes Brian, you have done it again!!! You are a great bean cook!!! I remember the last time you cooked some Black beans!!!
Hello, from NY. Learning to be plant based. Thank you!

Great tip on the lentils. Cook till done and then drain off the water.

Yum! Have you ever added cocoa powder? It's amazing!

Green peppers are less sweet and have a “grassier” taste which is the only way I could think to describe it :) I love poblanos in chili
i much prefer red over green capsicums (peppers) cos yep youre right the green capsicums taste grassier for sure.

I made the chili and had some green beans I wanted to use up. Great addition. Such tasty chili😋
So excited to make this for the Super Bowl. Love watching Ann and Jane!

I was going to make this for dinner tonight anyway - I added extra veggie - thanks for the suggestion!
I made this Super Bowl Sunday, it was delicious! Even better the next day!

Ya'll make my day! The chili looks wonderful, even at 6 in the morning. I would never have thought about adding BBQ sauce.
It’s a family affair😊! Love the interaction in this video👍🏽!
I make my own chile powder and use my own tomatoes. so yummy😋
I like to add apples to my tomato dishes (instead of maple syrup). Also they are nice to come across while eating the dish.
ok now THATs a new one on me! but i will try it.
Thank God i have the book to make it from the recepie
Poor Jane! I'm a cook, and I always do the "Brian" thing.....it's what we do, dear! :) LOL Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
"We're gonna be outside. Yeah! Outside WITH MASKS!"

Serve your wfpb chili Cincy style over whole grain pasta 😋 & nutritional yeast for chz
Wish once I can see you, you guys are amazing I am super inspired by you
I love chillies! Last year I served some for my birthday and topped it with dark chocolate to make it more special. Best from Germany👋🏻
I'm going to try that instead of cocoa powder. Sounds delicious!!!!
I love Dark Chocolate....that sounds delicious. Going to make plant based Chili tomorrow and I will try the Dark Chocolate....thanks for the tip 🤗

Omg last night I was searching your RUclips channel for vegan chili. Thank u for this video 🙏🙏🙏
Looks wonderful, but why not use tomatoes out of a glass jar. Tomatoes leach the metal from cans due to their acidity.
what is bone sucking sauce... i am not in the usa.. Australia... and not available...
Great chili, I make the same thing, but I omit the bone sucking sauce.
May I ask are those gas induction hobs safe to use inside? I thought they were for outdoor use only?
You can make chili with quinoa. It’s great!
Bryan has so
Much patience 😅
I’m team Brian! All the way man! 😂
I made this today and it was delicious!!
Ooooh chili yummy! I noticed you have a black dog so I’m asking you what kind of dog food with or without meat? I’m curious. 🙂
I have a question: I am allergic to lentils, what kind of beans would be the best to substitutes with?
A great looking chili! Looking forward to trying it!
Hi, from central Iowa
what brand of bbq sauce are you using to see the ingredients? Love the video
Question, what is the difference between the different colors of lentils?
Another awesome recipe!!
What’s the nutrition information for this recipe
Looks and sounds sooooo good!
That's how you cook with family!
That's funny, I have never considered tempeh a meat sub.. I've just thought of it as tempeh
Brian makes his chili like I do
Brian cooks like I do. ;)
I like Brian''s enhanced-ultra-super chili. The other is good just way not go for the moon with flavor.
Why have canned whole tomatoes and cut them up and also canned chopped? How is whole tomato’s better?
Sounds amazing 🤩
Hi West Virginia here
Best chili ever!! Make this chili.
Hi everyone
How funny how smooshed he is in the middle!
This was absolutely delicious 😋
Hello from Houston TX
Me too!
would anyone please provide the recipe for me
yeah
Don't like how Brian used same spoon to keep tasting and even shook the spoon over pot, yuk.
I couldn’t afford to buy all those extras! 🙁
This looks delicious!
Searcy Ar. Here to learn.
Whats chile without cumin?
To the person in the Comments who wanted to know what bbq sauce...its called "BONE SUCKIN SAUCE".
I agree! When I was typing it in the comment, my spell-correct on my cell phone changed the middle word to a different word starting with a "D". I really dislike when the actual recipe is not included.
But green pepper creates inflammation and red decreases it
Bryan doesn't know what tempeh is! It is fermented soybeans (or other beans) so is nothing like fake meat. It is much tastier and has more health benefits than tofu. So if you are ok, from a not-fake-meat perspective, using tofu you should be ok using tempeh.
Yummmmm!!!! 🥰💕💕🤙🏼🤙🏼💕💕🥰
No cilantro??
Ooooo 🎩 magic!
Yummy I love this chili 😋
This would go great with some warm hot buttered Jiffy cornbread!
Pass the cornbread and Chilli 🌶 please haha 😄
