Yeah ghosting bothers me a lot. I love travelers notebooks because you can customize them so much. As I get older or move on to different work/ projects I need that customizability
Yes, that ghosting...just can't do it. That's great that you found the Traveler's Notebook system customizable for your planner needs! Isn't it neat how flexible it can be!
If you were to use a writing board there would be less of the pen pressure showing on the following piece of paper. I've been a Traveler's Notebook person since 2013. I can't imagine I will be changing anytime soon. :-)
Hi John. Yes, I have the writing boards....Just too much of a hassle to use when switching back and forth between the pages. Too much "work for my use....haha! And yay!! Team Traveler's Notebook! Even though my very first one was back in 2013, I don't hold quite the lovely TN collection as you do!
Seaweed Kisses I’m the same way. I have many writing boards and I never use them. But when I do my pens work better on the Tomoe River paper and there is less write through pressure. I just have to pull it out of the back of my TN. 😆
Yes, I love my TN system. A good mix of customizable vs pre-planned format. Looks like I am not leaving the TN system any time soon. Thank you for sharing your experience.
I have the hobonichi weeks and put it in a faux leather traveler's notebook cover from staples for 6.99, it fits great and is the best of both worlds 💜
I’m in an uproar about my planning. Love Weeks, love A6, and love TN. I have retired this year so that makes it worse because I don’t have to keep track of as much stuff. Decisions, decisions!!
I’m definitely on Team Weeks for planning, but I journal in a TN. A Writing Board, as John Rush said, eliminates the imprinting effect. I find Tomoe River paper to be amazing for my fountain pens. Grey ink is my fave for the Weeks and I find it has minimal ghosting. I do wish the grid was bigger in the Weeks, and I think if I ever switched to full-on bullet journaling I would use an A5 dot grid book. For journaling I love my regular sized TN and I keep a field notes (pocket) TN in my bag.
I love the Hobonichi Weeks and Techo A6. They can hold all my needs. However, several months ago, I totally switched. I got tired of the Tomoe River paper being so slick and having to be careful not to smear everything. I also discovered the pocket size travelers notebook and the ability to add dashboards to decorate your planner. Now I have a kind of mini Weeks in my pocket TN. I found a monthly insert booklet that is a Monday start, and another booklet insert that has the weekly layout set up like the Hobonichi Weeks. I love it! Pocket TN in my jam now. I have one booklet for the monthly, one booklet for the weekly, and one booklet to tracker meds, and for basic notes as needed. Great video!
Yes, that Hobonichi paper is "slick" indeed. Great way to describe it! And love the sound of your passport Traveler's Notebook system! Happy to hear that you've found something that works for your current needs. The passport size is such a fun little system to customize and use.
I'm Team TN all the way - I LOVE the paper, it holds well all my darkest inks. I used to buy 3rd party inserts on Aliexpress but nah, I need to have this original paper. Also I'm so happy about the newest TN insert line! xx
Liked the video even before the video started hahahaha! I had been contemplating whether I should get the Hobonichi Weeks 2020, then here’s your video!!! You are heaven sent!!! 🤩Love from the 🇵🇭
I have used a tn since 2012. That being said, I have ordered a Hobonichi weeks for a special project that I need to keep separate from my personal planner things. The size is why I ordered it, I can just throw it in my bag or even use a tn cover that I have. It's an experiment, but I'll give it a shot.
I love my TN for planning, my bullet journal for memory keeping and doodling, and I think I’m going to get a weeks to keep up with a 365 day project for next year! I want to just log time, materials, and small notes/to do’s for the project. I will be using my Field Notes for thought processing during the project. I’m so excited to see how my new planner year is going to go!
TN because you can customize it to your needs. Used a hobonichi techo for almost a year and loved it but tn once I figured out my set up is perfection. Tried the hobonichi weeks and did not like that at all.
Cost-wise, TN will be good in the long run since you're switching out inserts and not the whole thing. Plus you can add on other functions. I used a Weeks dupe for 2-3 years and it's very good as an EDC planner esp since I've come to love packing as lightly as I can. I'm switching over to a TN though because its weekly+memo insert has the same layout as Weeks and apart from an insert that will be my EDC notebook, I can leave my bulky sketchbook at home and just add the equivalent insert in the TN. Also, my work is hybrid, with about 80 to 90% wfh, so the size and bulk doesn't bother me.
Thanks for the video comparison as it was really useful to get your candid thoughts. I had thought about trying out a HC but I also have large handwriting and would struggle to stay within the designated boxes! I have just recently purchased a TN based on your channel's recommendations and John's whom I see has also commented below. I bought my TN to document my next holiday but really like the monthly and weekly planners and will definitely purchase these for 2020. I love the side by side comparison which was really useful to see. I currently used a LT 1917 as my EDC bujo.
I hope you're enjoying your new TM thus far! And should you decide to give the 202 inserts a try, I hope it works out for you! The LT 1917 notebooks are great as well!
Thanks for this video. I have TN regular. I bought the leather cover as a second hand good, so it was much cheaper and I love the week on the left side and notes on the right one (I write there my kids stuff). I was thinking about hobonichi too, but... I need more space for writing and for me is important the information about the paper. Thanks 🙏🏼
Thank you for your video. I've been using a Hobonichi weekks and cousin. But I have a travelers notebook as well. I'm thinking about going back to just the TN because of the paper. I just can't get used to it because I write so hard. I've always loved Travelers notebooks! I love you can keep so many notebooks in one! I love travelers notebook paper as well! You did a great comparison! I'm team travelers notebook.
I'm probably going to find a way to use both this year. Tried a Hobonichi weeks and techo this year and hardly ever ended up using the techo. I might get the blank monthly/daily for the travelers journal so if I don't end up using it as much I can still use it at a later date and not worry about purchasing a new planner insert! This year was my first time using a Hobinichi weeks and loved it! I don't have thát much planning to do so it's a great size. I'm still debating on getting the mega or just using my Leuchtturm for lists and stuff I would probably use the traveler's journal more as a personal journal (goals, achievements, writing etc.. and the weeks as a daily planner of sorts...)
I have my hobo weeks mega in a travelers' notebook. I love it since I can have that planner plus add another insert for bullet journaling or whatever. I plan to use it again for 2020. Heard the writing board helps with pen pressure and if you test out various pens some do not ghost through. I use the pilot Precise V5 Rt and love it.
If you use fountain pen, you still see ghosting but that will not be as distractive. Ball point pens requires heavier hands to write and tomoe river paper is designed to be thin and thus it becomes more of an issue. If you are fountain pen user, probably you already know this, the ink color on this paper is no match. Very few other paper can show better color of fountain pen ink than Tomoe river. Sometime you almost see completely different color of the same ink on Tomoe than on other paper. I give an example, my DeAtrimentis Charles Dickens is suppose to be greenish grey. But on Midori paper it is just grey with very minimum green on it, almost not noticeable. But on Tomoe river, it truly shows the beautiful shade of green which is why I bought the ink. If you see different color on the screen when you buy the ink than actual color lay down on the paper, it is not always the inks problem. Try Tomoe river paper and see if that gonna match the swatch shown on the website when you bought it.
Thank you so much for the suggestions and comparison Michelle!! I am struggling between Hobo weeks and Molskine... I really want to go back to weeks but since I had this love hate relationship with it a couple years ago... I am not sure if this will be another fail.. and yes, I totally agree with you, the ghosting is a little bit distracting to me too ;( but ahhhh they are adorable!! I suddenly feel the urge to make my decision for 2020 since everyone is talking about planner line up now hahaha. As always!! thank you for making these informative videos!! they help a lot M!
I don't do leather covers...Faux leather is available for ten dollars at Michaels and are pretty high quality...plus take 40 percent of with coupon. I would NEVER pay the prices many ask for covers unless it's very special. Also one should test their pens before using to see if they do bleed through so as not to ruin pages.
I love my Weeks Mega! It's the only daily planner I'm using this year, except for a Happy Planner that I use for RUclips and social media planning. It's perfect for me. I used to use a TN but I really like having everything all in one place. Good video!
I'm so happy that they made the Mega version. Those extra pages are so helpful! Oooh, and the Happy Planner! Now their paper quality is nice as well! Love those spacious monthly layouts!
Hi! Do you use one planner per year? I bought the traveler's notebook 4 months ago and just bought the Moleskine daily planner....lol now I have two planners going to 2022..... lol
My brain only responds to Sunday start. I have tried to change soooo many times. Oh, try out a pencil board to avoid imprints, you can even use something from home and cut to size
I am considering keeping a HB weeks for finances in my TN large zipper pocket. That way I can leave it out of my main journal if I need to without having to unstring my inserts.. but as a lefty I smudge paper constantly.. ugh decisions, decisions..
Thanks for the video! You forgot to say that with TN, you really don't have to use their notebooks and you could print your own 1/2/3 notebooks planner or just cut down a grid notebook for bujo (that will be cheaper)and that it will last you forever (the cover) , while the hobo is just for a year. I made fauxbonichi Printables in Standard TN size just to have my fav hobo in this size 🤣🤣🤣🤣 So I could have 2 ofmy fav planners in one😆😆😆😝😝😝😜😜
I go through this dilemma every year🤔😅 The Hobo is just too cute sometimes! I tried the Mega Weeks Sneaker and put it in my MTN this year, but--same as you--I don't like the paper! I also underestimated how much I dislike that my inserts aren't all flush. It's back to the Travelers inserts for me next year.
Haha! "The Hobo is just too cute sometimes!" - Yes, that. When Hobonichi launches all those cute cover designs...Aaaagghh! Must be careful not to get sucked into it all. hehe, it can be hard!
Oh! Thank you for bringing that to my attention. The link as been updated. But here is the monthly calendar insert: amzn.to/31PfLhB And here are the weekly inserts: amzn.to/2KXihM0 Thank you for watching!
I love my weeks Mega as a planner/ information keeper/ art journal. I love, love, love the tomoe river paper. I can use all types of medium on this paper, it is very strong. I use my A5 cousin as an art journal because I love to work on this paper. My weeks mega fits in my purse perfectly. I will order these again for 2020. I made some travelers journals out of boxes and decorative paper for flow journals and bought faux travelers journals and inserts. I do like being able to switch inserts out for different projects.
as for the ghosting in hobonichi weeks, u needed to have watched the multitudes of swatches that or pen testing as its called for the tomoe river paper there r certain pens u can use that are gel inks, and one is microns.

This review is rly helpful! It helps me a lot in deciding
Between the two I'm definitely team TN all the way. I like to be able to customize.
I love my TN for planning, my bullet journal for memory keeping and doodling, and I think I’m going to get a weeks to keep up with a 365 day project for next year! Those stickers are so cute though! How do I find the tiger one?
I can't do ghosting, makes me nuts. I think I will try the A6 folio with a scribbles dot grid because I love that paper.

I'm tossing up between muji planner or hobonichi planner. Would love your thoughts on a comparison, paper quality, pen ghosting.
Thanks for this great comparison video! I needed this about 2 weeks ago, lol. Things may change for 2020...
Hi! Do you use one planner per year? I bought the traveler's notebook 4 months ago and just bought the Moleskine daily planner....lol now I have two planners going to 2022..... lol
What I don’t like about the TN is that the inserts are feel so stiff when you turn pages and flip between inserts.
Yeeesss. I know what you mean. Sometimes I wish the inserts had more pages, too, as that may help weigh down the inserts to make them feel less stiff.
My brain only responds to Sunday start. I have tried to change soooo many times.
Oh, try out a pencil board to avoid imprints, you can even use something from home and cut to size

I’m thinking for trying a hobonichi weeks for 2020, would you suggest the weeks or the mega version?
I don't like the ghosting either. It's ugly.#teamTN At the moment I'm mostly using leuchtturm1917 for my bullet journal and reading journal.
Happy to see that you found a notebook that works for you! Yay!!
Where did you get that paperclip in the front of your TN?
It's actually a pen clip by Hobonichi. You can find them here: www.1101.com/store/techo/en/2019/pc/detail_toolstoys/s_penhook.html
I went to the link listed. I do not see calendar insert for travelers notebook.. am I missing it?
Oh! Thank you for bringing that to my attention. The link as been updated. But here is the monthly calendar insert: amzn.to/31PfLhB
And here are the weekly inserts: amzn.to/2KXihM0
Thank you for watching!
I am team hobonichi😃

Two-in-one! Nice!!

I also dislike tomoe river paper! I really don’t understand why people like it 😳🤫😂
Hi Sarah! Yeah, in my experience, the ink even takes a bit to dry when using heavier inks. So you also risk smears within the pages, too. *sigh*
I don’t like the clip that you use.
I love my TN for planning, my bullet journal for memory keeping and doodling, and I think I’m going to get a weeks to keep up with a 365 day project for next year!
