One of the best “reviews” of one’s personal journey between these two systems I’ve seen. Your gentle laugh and easy way of talking is “easy” on my mind and ears. Thank you for putting your voice for all to hear. This is my first experience with your channel and I must thank RUclips for the suggestion. Now all I need to do is hit subscribe!
If you’ve found a system that has worked for you for 6 years, I don’t blame you for wanting to stick with it. I sometimes don’t have planner peace for 6 weeks! Loved the video. 😊
I use the avec cousin since 2017! I love it. I love that I can plan my weeks and then also journal everyday. I write a lot and add photos as chip ins. Yeah it gets thick but it all in one space. All my memories. Opposite to you, I keep forgetting to use my travelers notebook but I'm watching all your videos and getting inspired again. I do love both systems.
Hi there! I understand your struggles. I was able to come to term with blank pages by gluing them together. In addition, I am splitting my time between Hobonichi Techo Avec and reg TN because I can’t decide on the size. I love your TN patches!
Quick tip, especially because you like to decorate pages, is "ignore the dates". Put a sticker, washi tape, or glue something over them. You don't have to use the date it says, just because it's already there :). 👍🏻p.s. You do a great job speaking- no worries there!
Ohhhh that north face pouch is so perfect for travelers notebook! I was testing hobonichi this next year for collages and random journaling and the hobo weeks for work…but the year hasn’t even started and I already miss my TN. Ordered a weekly insert just in case 😅
I like the Hobonichi Cousin Avec, which gives you two volumes, each halfway through the year.I travel with my Travelers Notebook and leave the Hobo on my desk.
Totally get your struggle with the full-size Cousin. Tried that one in 2019 and tried an Avec (6 months per book) this year. In 2019 I totally abandoned it after two months, it was just too much. This year, I gave the second half to somebody else because again, I found it was too much work for me. I prefer pottering around in different notebooks, compartmentalizing each topic in a different book and I can stand empty pages much better if they are A6, which is what I kept for this year. For the second year in a row, I got really fond of Traveler‘s Notebook, because I find the size so charming, just like you. There‘s just something about it, is there? Thanks for sharing Jane, you should do talking videos more often 😊
Great video!! I loved it. I'm stuck between getting a cousin or staying with my stalogy. This is so much help in deciding. Thank you so much. Great personality too!! Enjoyed listening to the video while planning and you made me giggle a few times!
@Estela Stay with Stalogy, you can always create a timeline template in blank page when you need it. Or without it when you're not busy. A page with pre printed templates will make you guilty for not filling it up.
oh me too, i like to fill every page but daily journaling is not for me coz i dont have anything interesting to write everyday. also, i dont wanna waste paper so an undated journal is the best option. i only write when im in the mood for it
Write what you feel, when reading my old journal entries, the most interesting to read are the days when nothing happened. So I wrote about my thoughts. Draw a sketch, press a flower. Sometimes I put food labels of what I ate that day. Colored pencils add color but not bulk. I've seen people use watercolor in the hobonichis.
I've wondered about the Hobonichi...dates and permanence also stress me out. I. Love. Your. TN Patches!! :D AND, I'll say it a thousand times...your documenting style! :D
The size in between the standard travelers notebook and the A5 is a wide size, 8in x 5in. The moleskine cahier or moleskine extended is that size in between standard and A5. Its as tall as the travelers company notebook and A5.
I like both the A5 hobonichi cousin and my travelers notebooks and I appreciate your point of view on everything in this video! You made a subbie here I really enjoyed this video and honestly you speak very well ☺️ thank you for the great video!
Hi from a fellow Malaysian! I’m currently on a career break and started to travel a lot. Hence I’m thinking of documenting the travels physically this time around. Glad to find your video as I’m not sure which one to choose between Hobonichi and TN. I plan to use them to paste ticket stubs etc. Looks like TN is better for me. Thank you so much for the video!❤ And I’ve subscribed to your channel as well!
Hi Jane, I've used TN>Hobo Techo A6>MD A5 (last year and this year). I think I'll be switching back to TN next year. I'll only consider Hobo Weeks because it is more lightweight for a planner to bring around. I won't consider Hobo Techo anymore because they're dated as you highlighted, which stresses me. Plus, the covers are ridiculously expensive. I've been using MD A5 because it allows me to use various of journaling items like the big-sized postcards and cut-outs from magazines, and at the same time still have spaces to write whatever I want. But life's too mundane these days, nothing much to write so I find A5 is quite stressful to handle anymore, so I'm thinking of switching back to TN.
You have just express everything I wanted to say :) Yes, while stucked at home for two years I didnt have much content to write about except pasting random stuff. YES! Lets go back to TN. I have already started mine.
@@Janethecrazy I'll be starting fresh on the first day of 2022 (very OCD haha). Do you only use blank inserts for TN? I was thinking to get the 2022 weekly inserts for daily journal (space to record those mundane days) and if I have more things to write or stick, I'll do it on additional blank inserts. Couldn't decide the system yet but TN is very versatile so it's good =)
@@nasilemakhotpot7964 Hi! I've tried Tn monthly, weekly, grid, line, blank, craft, dotted, they all hav different purposes. I agree they r just easy to use once u get the hang of it
Nice video! Hi Jane, recently just subscribed to your channel. It's nice to see how you did the arts and journals on your TN. It gives me many ideas and inspirations on how to do mine. And...surprisingly saw your photos all over Taobao! LoL . I love your houseplants too! Stay safe!
I really love the look of your travelers notebook so used and loved. I was able to order one last week the Moomin collab it will be my first one and I wanted it to be special. Can't wait to receive it.
Oooh I love both and still can not decide. I can imagine that you really like the TN. I always like to stick a lot of photo's and the TN does not feel wide enough for me. But I so love the TN system with everything that comes with that. Help. Haha
Have you ever tried the “dayfree” version? I’m thinking in getting the dayfree because I don’t need a full page per day and I am not that much consistant with my journaling
I just subscribed because you said "lah" 😁💜 PS: After listening to you here, I suddenly realised that I got mine the other way around. I should be planning with Hobo and journal with Traveller's Co (TN is what I started with for planning during travelling). Not the other way around. So thank you! Hobonichi has what they call the "Avec" which splits the A5 and A6 books into two. That lightens the bulk and weight by a lot. Also what they call "Day Free" which is just plain notebook with a calendar at the front. They won't meet your journaling needs according to what you say here though. They wont meet mine either. (Although I am currently journalling in a Hobo A6. Long story). Hobonichi also has "monthly" and "weekly", BUT, they are tiny. A lot of fountain pen users ended up with Hobonichi for the paper.
I think the hobo are more suitable for other writing, like neat bujo. I couldnt focus with so many journal system in my life so i really like to only stick with one. Thank you the hobo insights! Im sure alot are still using them fine
@@Janethecrazy Indeed. I am stuck with an Hobo A6 for journalling for now and it is a struggle. Trying on different systems has not been fun for me this year. So I feel you. After we stop being able to travel internationally I was able to explore the heavier Hobonichi since they are all staying at home. Still. Back to plain notebooks to journal with and Traveller's Co TN for memory keeping after 2024 for me. Thanks again for this video!
@Two Mice On My Bookshelf I can understand with your struggle about how "tiny" Hobonichi. But that's the Japanese mindset, they use it as functional daily planner and almost didn't really care about being artistic with it. TN regular while providing enough space if we want to create a template with timeline. It lacks width if you must divide it into 3 column when you have 3 categories of activity. And we're not even talk about space for note taking and multiple list of subtask from the planned activity. Personally I'll go with basic BuJo method from Ryder with 1 or 2 adjustments on blank notebook. So I don't have the guilty of wasting paper if I only have 3 tasks for the day. And using whole page with timeline when I'm in a quite handful situation.
I used to use the Day Timer planner system for decades, small pocket size.. I think they are only online now. For my choice I used the 2 pages per day and each month had one little booklet. Choice of covers, and the covers could fit several booklets in there. So I always had the current month, like now it's mid November so I'd probably have Oct still, Nov and maybe December. I liked having predated pages. But it was light since it was only the months in use. I need to see if they have a catalog because my eyesight isn't so good and I'd need a bigger size. I tried A5 bujo in 2020 and really hard to get used to, lots of trial and error, It was mostly a journal since it was such a weird year. I drew toilet paper, and murder hornet's and people in masks and I don't even know how to draw a riot. I did try to draw a forest fire.
No worries, Hobonichi binding won’t give up! But yes the Cousin is huge. You might want to get a Hobo plain notebook or Day free. But it sounds like you love your TN.
Haha yes im much in love with the TN as it also gave a rugged feel because of the leather where the hobo are more sleek and clean (which is totally not my style) But thank you!
