    There's many ways to interpret this:
    Schizophrenia - The child was a figment of his hallucination that's why even the woman on the phone is not alarmed - because the baby is not real. Yes, it showed he saw photos of a baby on his phone, but that's what schizophrenia does, it makes you believe on things that aren't there.
    Grief/Trauma - The baby probably is deceased and he can't cope with the death. My aunt went through that, believe me it took her 2 decades to accept that my cousin (who died at age of 5) was really gone. She believed he'd come back, she believed that he was still around. Would leave a seat on the dining table, his room was kept to how he left it, would still say something like "Sorry he couldn't make it to your party" etc
    Dementia/Short term memory - He forgets that he and his wife are divorced, the baby is with her, everything. The clue was her constant asking "tell me where you are". One of the first signs of dementia is not knowing where you are and what you were doing.
    I'd like to believe it is more schizophrenia.

      I think what happened is that the baby is with the mother. The part when she said "Ian, I want you to listen", she held the phone close to the crying baby. Ian looked to his back seats and realizes that the baby is not there but with the mother.......

    It really frustrated me how she wasn't screaming at him, insulting him, or going through hysteria. I was so stressed that she wasn't defending herself in any way either, because I was guessing that she was just being a horrible mother and neglecting her child; and I would think that would make her even more susceptible to hysteria. When she said "I need you to stop talking and I need you to listen," it really hit hard. Such a captivating short.

I could rant about hi all day with nothing bad to say about him. Putting that aside, it doesn't surprise me that he did a short on mental awareness, he's a sweetheart. He portrayed the character so well and so did Alanna, even over the phone. I know I give all my praise to Steven, but I love Alanna, too, she's an amazing human being. I dated a guy with paranoid schizophrenia. I thought we could make it work as I too hear and see things. But he was way deeper in his illness than myself. I didn't let my illness control me or define me. I make an effort to over come it. He on the other hand laid into his illness using it as an excuse for the hurtful things he did and said. He would go on these binges of telling me about how I'm going to die if I eat this. Or do this. He started to obsess over my health and stressing me out. It got to the point where I feared for my life and unsafe I broke it off.
    I feel bad for him. I have no clue what goes on in his head but I couldn't sit around and wait for it to get worse.

    The father character definitely has schizophrenia. He really thought the baby was with him the whole time. The mother is not keeping him from the baby to hurt him. She’s doing it to keep him from accidentally hurting the baby during one of his bad episodes. It’s all very sad. As someone who used to be with a man that became bipolar then, became schizophrenic I understand the sadness in the woman’s voice. She probably loves the man very much. However, it comes to a point that it’s just not healthy or safe to be around them anymore. They see and hear things and people that are not there. They will literally fight with them and tear the house apart. They will accuse you of betraying them and all kinds of things because, someone told them so, a someone that doesn’t even exist in the real world. Bipolar is seriously hard enough to try to deal with but, schizophrenia is completely impossible. The person they were is gone forever. They disappear and this like demon possessed person is left in their place. It’s very hard and heartbreaking. They really need to keep schizophrenics locked up in special facilities for their own safety, as well as everyone else. 😢

      @sandramullikin5088: Some of what you say reminds me of my ex fiancee. I was 43, he 53, when we met. The 1st 2 yrs were great, I ignored the gradual red flags. By the 4 yr mark, I was afraid he'd kill me in my sleep. I finally left for the 3rd & last time; I've since realized he was emotionally disturbed, in the truest sense. Beware of charming, malignant, violent narcissists. They walk among us. "Demon- possessed", indeed. When you see their eyes change during an episode, you KNOW it can really happen, it's not just in horror movies.

    What appears to be a simple short movie is very complex. The complexity is caused by how abstract this short is, this abstraction interacts directly with each viewers personal experience and background. Hence each viewer sees what they want to see. That phenomenon is a genius Of a good literature, art and movie that evokes emotions to a point that a viewer to become part of the experience

    • @mchatouille
      @mchatouille 5 лет назад +5

      @@sq6394 SPOILER !! as far as I can tell, the baby is with the mom. The mom is (and has been) concerned about the dad's mental state, and she was asking for his location so she could get help for him. The last thing she said was, "You say the baby is with you?" and then the baby's cries faded away as he began to realize the reality of the situation.

    Does the character have dementia? It looks a lot like it. These things actually happen with people who suffer from dementia.
    I am so sorry for those who have dementia, and I wish the best of luck and a lot of strength towards the families of those who've got dementia. It's the hardest thing to see someone you love getting mentally broken down right in front of you, whilest there's nothing you can do to stop that.
