There's many ways to interpret this: Schizophrenia - The child was a figment of his hallucination that's why even the woman on the phone is not alarmed - because the baby is not real. Yes, it showed he saw photos of a baby on his phone, but that's what schizophrenia does, it makes you believe on things that aren't there. Grief/Trauma - The baby probably is deceased and he can't cope with the death. My aunt went through that, believe me it took her 2 decades to accept that my cousin (who died at age of 5) was really gone. She believed he'd come back, she believed that he was still around. Would leave a seat on the dining table, his room was kept to how he left it, would still say something like "Sorry he couldn't make it to your party" etc Dementia/Short term memory - He forgets that he and his wife are divorced, the baby is with her, everything. The clue was her constant asking "tell me where you are". One of the first signs of dementia is not knowing where you are and what you were doing. I'd like to believe it is more schizophrenia.
I swear to God that I was looking exactly for this kind of comment which would've explained what kind of sicknesses or mental illnesses it could've been. Thanks man
I think what happened is that the baby is with the mother. The part when she said "Ian, I want you to listen", she held the phone close to the crying baby. Ian looked to his back seats and realizes that the baby is not there but with the mother.......

The father character definitely has schizophrenia. He really thought the baby was with him the whole time. The mother is not keeping him from the baby to hurt him. She’s doing it to keep him from accidentally hurting the baby during one of his bad episodes. It’s all very sad. As someone who used to be with a man that became bipolar then, became schizophrenic I understand the sadness in the woman’s voice. She probably loves the man very much. However, it comes to a point that it’s just not healthy or safe to be around them anymore. They see and hear things and people that are not there. They will literally fight with them and tear the house apart. They will accuse you of betraying them and all kinds of things because, someone told them so, a someone that doesn’t even exist in the real world. Bipolar is seriously hard enough to try to deal with but, schizophrenia is completely impossible. The person they were is gone forever. They disappear and this like demon possessed person is left in their place. It’s very hard and heartbreaking. They really need to keep schizophrenics locked up in special facilities for their own safety, as well as everyone else. 😢
That was ignorant and pretty disgusting to say. You think just because someone is different mentally should be locked away. They are plenty of people with schizophrenia out there who lead normal lives just as people who suffer from disassociate identity disorder
