More about "The Rain Song"
"The Rain Song" is a ballad of over seven minutes in length. Guitarist Jimmy Page originally constructed the melody of this song at his home in Plumpton, England, where he had recently installed a studio mixing console. A new Vista model, it was partly made up from the Pye Mobile Studio which had been used to record the group's 1970 Royal Albert Hall performance and The Who's Live at Leeds album.
With a working title of "Slush", a reference to its easy listening simulated orchestral arrangement,Page was able to bring in a completed arrangement of the melody, for which singer Robert Plant composed the words. Plant ranks his vocal performance on the track as one of his best. The song also features a Mellotron played by John Paul Jones to add to the orchestral effect, while Page plays a Danelectro guitar.
George Harrison was reportedly the inspiration for "The Rain Song" when he made a comment to Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, about the fact that the group never wrote any ballads. In Light and Shade: Conversations with Jimmy Page, biographer Brad Tolinski quotes Page: George [Harrison] was talking to Bonzo one evening and said, 'The problem with you guys is that you never do ballads.' I said, 'I'll give him a ballad,' and I wrote 'Rain Song,' which appears on Houses of the Holy. In fact, you'll notice I even quote 'Something' in the song's first two chords. However, there is some disagreement about exactly what was said by whom.

Rain song is such a masterpiece. Only Zeppelin could write something like that
Jimmy Page gets so much shit for being a sloppy guitarist but these two songs demonstrate how tight you have to be. The Rain Song is such a satisfying song to play in that weird tuning, especially the outro bit.
other guys can only dream to have his songwriting ability. i know he borrowed/influenced by many, but his ability to recreate something is second to none
Jimmy sloppiness really began after the 1973 MGS performance....
Anyone who's call Jimmy Page a sloppy guitarist is just an idiot! Jimmy Page is the world's best guitarist ever.
Jimma paige ..not nearly da best ..No one Is ..!!
....................
man, that neck pickup tone was just gold. a tad warmer than Page's original tone, but you made it your own and with it just being just one live guitar (as opposed to the many layers on record) it worked wonderfully.
Thank you!
How does this not have soooo many more views/likes?
My 2 favorite songs ever played by the best guitarist I’ve ever seen.
I did not want that to end. So good.
Thank you!!
Yay! that crazy tuning D-G-C-G-C-D!
The rain song is my all time fav zep song! Nice job!
Thank you!
It's tied for my favorite, along with 39 others
I’ve been playing guitar for over 30 years now.
The rain song is my favorite one of all. It really does tell a story. One that Jimmy had the blessing to tell. The tuning makes the guitar resonate and intensify the feel x10

Thank you!
Great job men!
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful! more please!
Thank you! New Full Band video every Friday!
Amazing. Great work guys.
Thank you!
Fantastic.
Please Please Please redo both of these songs but the complete versions back to back on a Full Band Friday. Not to get greedy. This video was great but imagine what you folks could do with having someone sing both songs or maybe one singer on one and another on the second. CME has a lot of talented folks in your videos so I can imagine that you can find the right singer for each song. Sorry that it has taken me over a year to watch this finally. Both songs back to back still move me 49 years later (I’m 59).. and over the years the personal meaning to both has always evolved so both always feel fresh yet comfortable worn in. ✌🏾❤️🎸🍄
Nice!!
Thanks!
Awesome
Pretty good. I like the second song much better. But I think you guys did a very good job.
Thank you!
Wow.
Oh so that's cool! My ear kept telling me it was played in G but not standard. Is the studio version in 1 Full step down tuning than?
You all sound good if you know mr robert plant can you get him to come to new orleans sometime soon to sing? Or is he off the market? Just love him and his band all be safe

_"The Song Remains the Same/The Rain Song" Led Zeppelin | CME Full Band Fridays"_
The Song Remains the Same until the forward slash, which marks the transition from 11:59 pm, Full Band Friday, to 12:00 am Solo Saturday.
Fool in the rain next?
Was kinda hoping for the gong at the end
What's the bass and rig love the sound
Open that hi hat!
I wonder why he's sitting 🤔
Is it even really CME without Joel? End of an era.
Did he leave the shop? I spoke to him about four weeks ago and he was still working
@@kcave23 yeah the 8th was his last day. He's off to Nashville.
End of an era for sure. We miss him already!
@@chicagomusicexchange That's a bummer! We will miss hearing from him too
Your drummers playing that song wrong in the beginning from 24 seconds to 37 seconds the snare pattern he is playing is wrong. Bonham is actually hitting the snare twice each time not once
Technically wonderful. But. What makes the original so good is that Page is sloppy, and Bonham is always out ahead.
Really good cover.
Thank you!!
