Honestly it's kind of a crime that as a British actor Rufus Sewell never made it into Harry Potter or more recently Game of Thrones. But at least to us he will always be Obergruppenführer John Smith (and yes, of course I had to google how to write that correctly).
Does Rufus Sewell's performance in The man in the High Castle, his voice, his calm and collected demeanor and his air of authority remind anyone of a young Al Pacino as Michael Corleone in Godfather's 1&2.......it's very uncanny. Amazing actor, I'm surprised we haven't seen a lot more of him.
Yes, I have always wondered why he wasn’t a big star. He could have been/could be Bond for instance. He is also a fine stage actor and is perhaps surprisingly excellent in comic roles. Has quite a range!
Yes he does remind one so much of Al Pacino. I remember him from "the holiday". Not an outstanding performance of course but he is in fact an awesome actor. Gotta watch more of his movies.
Really think this is one of the best shows I have ever watched. The characters are so well written and acted. I so wanted to just HATE John Smith from the first time I saw him in and the things he did in season one, but I really find myself rooting for him because he really is trying to protect his family and he will do anything to care for them. The whole cast is just been superior in their performances.
Love love love Rufus Sewell.....for years!! He has been underrecognized and underappreciated....far less than his worth--his acting chops, his expressions, his VOICE...just Wow!!

One of the problems with this show is that, of the main actors, Rufus Sewell has by far the most charisma and when he is off the screen I tend to lose interest.
Exactly! That mofo is the only reason why I watch the show! I mean, the rest of the show can be pretty interesting at times, but whenever John appears my eyes are just glued onto the screen. Such a great character and a masterful actor!

Rufus style of acting reminds me of Chris Walken, great presence and delivery on screen and they both play great villains because of their unique mannerisms. he is a very underrated actor
I salute these actors & actresses. Particularly Rufus Sewell. He provided a magnificent performance. I hope he got an Emmy for that. As an individual growing up and living in Germany and a very-open minded writer, this series shocked me two my core, positively, as it deals with the topic in a completely innovative way. This is a good point, considering the fact that Tokyo used to be a lot of small huts and stuff before we went and firebombed it to a crisp, allowing for redevelopment into the metropolis of today

This show made me realize how lucky we were since we won the war, so now we can live in peace and joy instead of in the situation described in the series.
The "strong woman " question was so out of place...i get it the media need the conflict of gender alive, but in any moment the characters where defined because of their genders but because of the proper building up of who they are , what they lived and how the story shakes them around. Out of that, i can wait for the season 4...i just found it one month ago and i binge it, loved it.
The excellent acting, the brilliant sets and meticulous attention to detail, the twists and suspense and surprises -- a masterpiece. Please don't make us wait as long for season 4.
SPOILER ALERT: The scene in the finale at the beginning when they destroy lady liberty was pretty tough to watch. Not to mention when they melt down the liberty bell, I was a bit taken by that. This show really hit some emotions in me and how I feel about the country I live in. To think that Nationalism is on the rise all over the world and to see that this possibility is very real. America can change and has changed in some of the best ways for the betterment of the citizens that have lived in it, but the idea that we could change into what this show depicts us as, its pretty frightening.
John Smith's British accent here threw me off BIG-TIME 😂, I was so used to his scary / charismatic low-key American voice, I had no idea. How do these Brits pull this off so well...? 😆
As the show went on (and this is nothing against Alexa), I just became more interested in John Smith. His family vs job story line was absolutely fantastic and Rufus' acting was perfection. And like others, I just wish the show ended with 'that' war room scene.
I'm so excited for Season 4. I just can't wait for it. I binge watched (rewatched) the first 2 seasons right before Season 3 got released, then binge watched that one too. Such a good show.
I was one who wasn't intrigued by the title when it first came out. In fact, I just started watching about 2 months ago and binged all 4 seasons at once. That has become my favorite way of watching anything on Netflix. In fact, I hate waiting the week for typical TV series shows and their "crime/villain/event of the week" format. I much enjoy shows with multiple story arcs ongoing which may or may not touch each other but eventually resolve and usually at different times. And most people should know by now that Netflix airs their "series season shows " every 11-12 months. The whole season airs in one release. A quick warning for anyone reading beyond my comment, many spoilers are contained below so beware.
After an appalling Season 3, which went right off the rails, I am really enjoying Season 4: the main actors are having a chance to shine again, the direction has sharpened up, the characters and their interactions are further developed and there are some genuinely exciting moments.
That whole episode was scary, the melting of the Liberty bell to form the sawstika was disgusting(believe it was like ep 7 or 8.) Even watching the Statue of Liberty fall was shiver inducing. Crazy good show, but man what a scary reality.
Rufus Sewell's a great actor. Smith is the most compelling character, by far.
Deep Zepp Humbly disagree. Inspector Kido was the "Jigsaw" of this series.

Address him properly! Reichsmarschall John Smith! Or you will face re-education!
Or at least Oberstgruppenfuhrer :)
I also identity him as Lord M from Victoria. His performance there is just as good.

He auditioned for the role of Professor Snape back in the day but was turned down
Does Rufus Sewell's performance in The man in the High Castle, his voice, his calm and collected demeanor and his air of authority remind anyone of a young Al Pacino as Michael Corleone in Godfather's 1&2.......it's very uncanny.

I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!.. ever since GOT, ive been looking for something dope to watch... drk fukn city.. I remember dude.. i remember Rufus

John smith character is made the movie worth to watch!!
Blew through season 3, just want to know when season 4 is. :-)
I wanted a 5th season!!!!
After an appalling Season 3, which went right off the rails, I am really enjoying Season 4: the main actors are having a chance to shine again, the direction has sharpened up, the characters and their interactions are further developed and there are some genuinely exciting moments.
What an outstanding season
Not so much sad to say
It really was
I’m not gonna lie, if this ends how the book ends I’m gonna be pissed.
Joe Smith is British? Omg I would never have realised that in a million years lool
I tell you though, the riot scene in the last episode of season 3 reminded me of Charlottesville so much. It was scary.
That whole episode was scary, the melting of the Liberty bell to form the sawstika was disgusting(believe it was like ep 7 or 8.) Even watching the Statue of Liberty fall was shiver inducing. Crazy good show, but man what a scary reality.
Yes, the Antifa demonstrations as well. For people who say they are anti-fascists, they sure act a lot like fascists.
Antifa ARE the fascists.
09:20 smiths are the fricken best. I love how deep their characters are.
@Droid X haha no because I don't have an Alexa, but that's hilarious. I agree with you Alexa.
@Droid X lol I understand why
@Droid X haha oh he is hella sexy. The eyes are a definite yes, but his voice....its pleasant and dangerous
@Droid X its dangerous sounding. The way he can keep it soft while delivering threats....😍
@Droid X lol I feel like an idiot. I thought you meant a literal "alexa" hahahahaha I forgot that's the other actresses name 😅🤣 I'm ded
One of the few examples of a show/movie being better than the book
I love how Joe’s actor and Frank’s actor aren’t there. To make sure they don’t spoil what happens to them.
