Today I’m going to share one of the most ignored causes of numb hands and feet or a pins and needles sensation in the hands and feet.
Myelin is the coating around the nervous system, and it allows nerve impulses to travel. Without enough myelin, you may experience paresthesia or abnormal sensations.
One cause of numb hands and feet is diabetes. A thiamine deficiency may also be involved because it’s needed to make myelin. Taking fat-soluble thiamine (benfotiamine) and changing your diet may help improve this situation.
Another big cause of numbness in the hands is a vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency is very common.
The loss of myelin commonly occurs in the cervical spine (neck), and the degeneration can lead to various problems throughout the body.
Other symptoms of a vitamin B12 deficiency:
• An imbalance in your gait
• Urinary retention or bladder problems
• Problems in the feet
• Shooting pain in the spine when moving your head down
• Neck stiffness
One of the biggest causes of a vitamin B12 deficiency is a loss of stomach acid, which can happen with age. Without enough stomach acid, you can’t absorb vitamin B12. Betaine hydrochloride can help acidify the stomach and increase B12 absorption.
Other causes of low vitamin B12:
• A lack of vitamin B12 in the diet
• Antacids
• Metformin
• A certain genetic weakness
• Inflammation in the stomach or intestines
• Gastric bypass surgery
You may need to go beyond consuming foods rich in vitamin B12 and take it as a supplement. In my opinion, the best supplement would be methylcobalamin.
If you have a genetic issue, you may need a supplement that contains methylcobalamin, methylfolate, and vitamin B6.

You mean give him a PRIZE-AWARD of excellence.
He’s a real national treasure. Seriously though, it’s a labor of love born out of a true desire to help people, and he has done so much to help so many. Him talking about keto got me to try it and after 2 1/2 months I was finally able to stand up straight and my fibromyalgia pain stopped after 10 long years. Metformin blocks the absorption of B12
What many people don’t realize is that most doctors today are part of a medical system or group, and are basically well paid employees. My doctor advised B12 providing I wouldn’t snitch on him.
I had numbness and tingling in my hands, I thought it was carpal tunnel! I quit metformin just before Christmas. I had 2 weeks off of work. The "carpal tunnel" went away. I thought maybe it was due to me being off of work, and reasting. Now I see it was likely the Metformin! It did not come back after I went back to work. Oh that makes me mad! I suffered half of last year!
Doctors work with pharmaceutical. They don’t prescribe vitamins.
Wonderful watching my first video of yours…I can relate to so much. I began carnivore a few weeks after you and for many of the same reasons. I had a senior dog with degenerative myelopathy. We made him comfortable as the vets said that they could not help. But I did try to find things out on my own and did increase supplementation. @According.2tazz I'm 46 years old and I've always been fit and had a good diet. In my early 30s I started to feel tired and lethargic. I got tested various times but they never found the cause. This has gotten progressively worse and over the last 3 years I developed cloudy thinking, lack of taste and smell, random stumbling and palpations and depression. My diet throughout has been good so it confused me. The lethargy and lack of acuity was the worse. It made it so I was disinterested in actually getting my health resolved. Dear Dr. Berg,
Over the last few years finding your channel on RUclips has been such a blessing. I’m in the UK n ‘tho’ my General Practitioner’s are well meaning, they have little or no knowledge about nutrition. I have recommended your channel to all my friends and family.
One of the things I am most grateful to you for is - you do not treat me like a fool or talk down to me. Sadly, doctors often have and do.
Like many folk I am poorly educated but by no means a fool. Thank you so much for the way you explain things to me. I wish I’d had teachers like you at school. You make things so clear, straightforward and easy to understand. I cannot thank you enough for this. Bless you doctor Berg.

Thanks for sharing this information. I think you just answered more questions for me than my own doctor simply because you're educating me on my body than telling me to get tests that has nothing to do with my symptoms. Thanks.

About 15 years ago, I had Trigeminal Neuralgia on the left side of my face. It was extremely painful. My neurologist prescribed Gabapentin which I took for two years. Anxious to get off of the medication, I researched the condition and found that it was likely to be from the breakdown of my Myelin Sheath. I started weaning myself off of the Gabapentin and eating one whole avocado each morning with my coffee. With Gabapentin, I had to go very slowly with the process due to the side effects. It worked and I have been pain free for 13 years.
On another subject, Dr. Berg is absolutely wonderful! He has been very helpful with his expertise and calm, caring attitude.
Dr Berg is an absolute genius to stand up for alternative medicine

What did the avocado do for you?
@@loveconquersall143
In my investigation of ‘ Trigeminal Neuralgia’ previously known as ‘Tic Douloureux’, I found information that the condition was likely caused by damage to the Myelin Sheath. The Myelin Sheath acts as a protective covering that surrounds nerve fibers. This covering is also described as a ‘fatty insulation’.
Avocados are rich in polyunsaturated and mono saturated fats which are the healthy fats. They also contain many other vitamin’s, minerals and oxidants such as:
Vitamin K,C,E,B6,B9, potassium, lutein, folate, magnesium, glutathione, oleic acid in addition to fiber. I weighed my options and decided to take a chance and it worked for me. I’m not a doctor so I certainly can’t say that it will work for anyone else. Thank you for your question.
Did you eat avocado whole or how did you consume?

Hello Dr. Berg,
I've been veiwing your super interesting video podcasts and I am very impressed, given you lots of thumbs up and now am a subscriber. It is a very sureal experience as at this very moment I am listening to you describe every one of the sypmptoms I have had and currently am having. Bladder problems, I won't even go into, but I can tell you it has totally screwed up my ability to get a good nights sleep. Also, I have fairly regular pain, burning and clicking in my cervical spine/neck, pain in my thoracic and lumbar spine/back, numbness in feet and in my hands which also actually wakes me up at night some times. I thought I was going crazy as, often, I'd feel dizziness while walking as though I'd been drinking. I've also been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists and I recently had the releif surgery done on my right hand.
Here's the topper... I've had GERDS for the last 25 years and have struggled trying to get off the proton inhibitors (Omeprozole). I've been pretty good on the diet, i.e. eating a lot of wild salmon and trout, lots of eggs and nuts, cheese, etc. So I apparently do not have enough stomach acid to digest B12. I've got to figure this out. Whenever I have stopped the medication I get terrible reflux. I originally was diagnosed with multiple stomach and esophagus bleeding ulsers. I'm just afraid I'll end up like my mom. She had lost both her stomach and esophagus due to cancer and miraculously lived without them for a long time after a radical procedure to reroute her small intestines. I'm just not keen on those prospects. I'll have to talk to my Doc (VA Internist doctor) and see if he can give me B12 shots perhaps. Thank you so much for the insight. You're awesome sir.
God Bless,
Shawn Spencer
Absolutely crazy that I've been dealing with this very issue for about 3 weeks after getting food poisoning. I've read that a stomach issue can cause deficiency in Magnesium and Potassium as well, which learning from your channel can also cause this pins and needles sensation. Thanks again Dr. Berg!
Same things happened to me , after food poisoning too.
This is so true. I can't absorb B12 from food anymore after bowel surgery for my Crohn's, and after skipping my B12 injection for a few months (long story) I have experienced awful side effects such as tingling/burning hands and feet, dizziness, extreme fatigue, and muscle spasms. Luckily I'm getting back on track with the shots and am slowly beginning to feel better. But it's just crazy how many issues a single vitamin deficiency can cause-and think about how many the average person is deficient in due to the modern diet. No wonder so many people are sick and unhealthy.
I am glad things are getting on track!! Keep getting well, friend.

I have small fiber neuropathy as manifested by peripheral neuropathy and severe GI shutdown (gastroparesis, etc.). I was diagnosed with unknown dysautonomia in 2020. I am a physician and this has been very disabling. I read an article about 2 months ago and started B12 sublingually thinking this might help. Within days, my GI tract was improving. The jar must be “burped” (opened to release gasses) daily or every other day for at least two weeks. The longer you wait the more palatable it’ll be, I prefer to prepare a couple jars in advance. I’ve heard accounts of people fermenting them 2 years or longer so no need to worry about it going bad. In case you were wondering about “botulism” occurring like with garlic infused oils, honey is naturally acidic, therefore, you shouldn’t be concerned but in case you were you can test the PH balance & if it is above 4.6 add a tbsp of Apple cider vinegar in order to bring it down. People will also have a specific pattern of muscle tension, that when relieved, clears up the symptoms. The tension is at the shoulders near the neck, at the should blade on the side near the spine and on the other side, by the shoulder / armpit area (in like a thin tender line near where your shirt sleeve would be sewn), and in the muscular bundle at the top of your forearm. Working on all of these areas, gently trying to hypnotize the nerves into relaxing using massage movements, will help relieve all the symptoms. Sufferers are normally unaware of the high degree of painful tenderness in the muscles of these specific areas.

That’s how exactly I am feeling pain on upper neck right arm numb and 2 fingers thanks for video
Just a very important side note: Tinnitus is caused by myelin sheath damage, It's either your body doesn't absorb much B12 or there is a big bone pressing on your nerves from pressure like in mandibular prognathism or TMJ cases. If you have any of these conditions then you may need surgery to correct the bone structure and lessen the pressure on nerves, If not then take B12 needles but with the help of a doctor only to monitor your blood levels.
Many people who took high doses of B12 through needles have had their tinnitus improve or disappear.
Thanks for sharing this impt info😢. I've been suffering from tinnitus for the past few months and have had sleepless nights due to the intermittent ringing in the ear. His videos pretty much saved my family & I. I trust no doctors nowadays. They'd run all the tests & still have no answers. Felt like a test subject(s) instead. 😂 😫🤦♀️
When my soul connects, I know that he's the one! He explains throughly, breaking things down & SHOWS. He takes his time & NOT RUSH! He actually cares about humans, unlike many.
His way & family's traditional ways have been great! THANKS again, Dr Berg. Blessed be your beautiful soul, from one healer to another. 🙏🙏🙏💜
This is a timely explanations of my current problems. I have all of these symptoms, with diabetes thown in.Thank you Dr. Berg! LIKE
Possibly, some of Dr Berg’s videos on diabetes may help as well ❤
I have three bad discs in my neck, and used to have bad spinal pain. I accidentally discovered magnesium, and that helped a lot. I became diabetic, and while I was reversing diabetes, experienced the peripheral neuropathic issues. My B12 was actually high, but I took benfotiamine and continued keto, and the peripheral neuropathy went away over time. I still take magnesium and benfotiamine. I had stopped benfotiamine for a while and it returned.
Can anyone explain why this would happen as you are improving diet? Can it be a detox reaction too?
@@ravenel2 How what would happen?
@@ravenel2 He explained that he had to stop benfotiamine for a a while and after that the peripheral neuropathy returned. ❤
Love the explanations .
Special blessings and thanks for sharing this great information 😊

Thank you Dr Angel Begh so blessed to have🙏😇😘
Thank you Dr. Berg for all the information you gathered teaching us. The moment you said Vitamin B12 you kept on explaining what I've been feeling in my body, especially the neck & spinal part.
Do your own research people but please be respectful of different view points other than your own...we all learn from different perspectives...👍
This was extremely informative thank you so much. God bless.
Thank you so much for this information Dr..This video was helpful.
Thank you, Dr. Berg. I was having these same issues and I told my doctor but he didn't address it at all. However, after a series of blood tests, I found out I have H. Pylori. So now I understand why... Thank you much for this knowledge.
Do you have chest tightness or discomfort ?too sometimes
I'm regularly taking nutritional yeast for the last 2 years or so. I think that's why I never had these symptoms. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 😊
May I ask what brand .
@@nancysmith-baker1813 Bobs Mill brand is available in all big grocery stores. I bought mine from Sobeys in Canada for about $10 for small pack.
@@Rrrrcc4666 thank you , haven't seen that in the states .
I make my own nutritional yeast.
@@mhpjii how do you do that ? Thanks
I clicked on the Video bc I was recently diagnosed with MS after loosing complete vision in my right eye and them finding 2 lesions on my spine. Sense the diagnosis I suffer with numbness, tingling burning sensation in both my feet hands and forearm. I was also informed by my neurologist that I was low in B12 after being pescatarian for 12+ years but having started back eating meats here and there since the previous yr 🤷🏽♀️…. Before the MS diagnosis was also diagnosed with h.pylori 🙄started taking vitamin b12 complex and consuming more meats … wished I had known years ago the importance of certain vitamins when not consuming meat but I guess you live and you learn . Thx doc.
Your video with the white board gives more knowledge... Most of us (including me) are not born and studied in English... Thank you
My late wife had pins and needles sensations in her hands and feet . Eventually she went to the Doctor's with it and they did a blood test. A week or so later she was called back to the doctor's and told her calcium level was extremely low and she was rushed off to hospital for an infusion of calcium and the symptoms disappeared. Apparently her calcium level were that low she was in danger of having an heart attack. She was told that the thyroid in her neck had stop producing calcium thus her deficiency.
She was prescribed calcium tablets and later her magnesium levels needed support to.
This was the being of her struggle with her health and approximately five years later with other health issues she past away in her mid-50's.
Sorry to hear that😞. I know what that's like. I lost my husband when he was 43.
This is so informative. I have gluten and dairy sensitivity. And have recently started feeling the pins and needles. Thank you!
I also work with alot of pregnant women who ecperience pins and needles in their hands. is it possible that a B12 deficiency could be the cause of that as well?
Very glad to be of help.
@@jennb1245 Yes. Some of his earlier videos on pins & needles can answer this.❤
@@jennb1245 Also, some of his videos on pregnancy can help. ❤

Anytime any of my friends or family mentions any kind of nerve problems, numbness, heart palpitations or aches and pains that affect their daily life I tell them to have their dr check their b, d and electrolyte levels. If you're having a shortage of any of these you can have a lot of troubling symptoms and Dr's don't always recognize it.
Thanks a lot doc for this detailed, profoundly informative video.
You're very welcome!
I am hypnotized by these videos...luv em
Hi, Dr. Berg: When I was 15 years old, I had Guillian-Barre’ syndrome and ended up paralyzed from my neck down. It started with the numbness and tingling in my feet and slowly moved its way up my body, attacking the myelin sheath that covered my central nervous system. I was sent to Brigham & Woman’s hospital in Boston because that was the only hospital offering plasmapheresis. After each treatment (5 total), I was able to move more and more. I’m 50 years old now and I was diagnosed with celiac disease about 11 years ago. Needless to say, my whole world got better when I stopped eating gluten. In the past, I discovered that I had a LOT of vitamin deficiencies - I also continue to struggle on and off with the bottoms of my feet burning …….once I started taking my vitamins again regularly, it stops! I didn’t know it could have been from a vitamin B deficiency!!
Thank you for your videos! You explain things so well. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That’s so thoughtful of you Tricia, Thanks for your positive review,How are you and how’s the weather over there?
Wow, blessings to you and thanks for sharing!
Hi Tricia, you don’t have anyone in your family that had polio, did you?
My dad had polio at age 12 and had a case of GBS that took awhile to diagnose back in late 70s early 80S
A lot of Prednisone and he got some strength back.
There was some question about a swine flu shot but not sure what caused it. (One reason I was hesitant with vaccines)
Hope you’re doing well now.
@@chriswindham9868 I don’t have anyone in my family who had polio, although GBS and polio mimic each other I’m told.
And yes, I’m doing well now. On and off, I have issues with the vitamin deficiencies and the symptoms that relate to them. I also can’t use my calve muscles to walk, so sometimes I look as if I’m limping. Believe me, I’m accepting of my limitations and I really don’t let them “limit” what I do.
Also you advise what you need to take all natural , I also check out the goods before I buy mainly if suited for me
Olive Oil & CIder Vinegar & a few different vitamins are just a few, your videos have really helped my well being & feeling so much happier in my day life .
Thanks for great information 😊
Thanks mate your sensible advice without the junky words, helpful australia
It really helps to get a very good all spectrum B vitamin supplement. Ever since I have gotten one, I no longer have numbness in my hands anymore! Thank you Dr. Berg!
Did you ever had pain in your arms? My sister has sometimes sharp pain attacks in her arm while she is sleeping. Dr don’t know what it is. First they thought it’s problem with spine and it wasn’t. I am so worried about her. Do you have any idea what it could be?
I take a well rounded B complex WITH HCL- pepsin… it works… no more shots!
