SLB does not hold the patent for historical drama in Hindi films. Gowarikar is so much better with creating fully fledged historical characters than SLB. Sans the melodrama.

This movie is pre-Sanjay. Ashutosh Gowarikar (the director of Lagaan & Swades) is way more subtle than SLB, so Korbin won't complain it's too loud! It's a beautifully crafted gem that does complete justice both to the man (Emperor Akbar) and to a golden period (pre-British Mughal era) in India's chequered history. MUST WATCH! Also watch the much older Mughal-e-azam.
Gowarikar could teach Sanjay something about creating real three-dimensional characters who remain true to their position,duties and time period. On the other hand he learned some real bad habits from Sanjay. Look at Panipat's Royals on the dance floor.

One of my favourites, everything in it is pure magic, the scenery, cinematography, clothes, DIALOGUES, lyrics, acting, the message of tolerance that we need more than ever. For me Aishwarya is at her best no one could've incarnated so beautifully the role of a strong yet delicate and graceful princess better than her, her look here is my favourite, never seen her more beautiful and her eyes colour with the contact suits her more than her original colour, my personal taste, because they look even bigger and more expressive. Sanjay leela Bhansali doesn't even come close to the class of Asutosh Gowariker......Asutosh has given us epics like Lagaan, Swades and Jodha Akbar which I don't think will be emulated ever by anyone. Sanjay just knows how to dress up women pretty and make huge colossal sets but his films lack soul and they never have any lasting impact except for the music but we have AR Rahman with Asutosh so we all know who is better there :p

Gah they needed the scene and dialogue immediately before this song to build up to it. Also while watching this movie (if they do) unsure if some subtleties will be lost on them such as the ability to pick up what touches are Hindu and what touches are Muslim (and how both eventually blended to create the uniquely Indian essence of the great Mughal)

The way Sonu Nigam's sung this song! Wow. Melliflous and haunting and mesmerising.
Gah they needed the scene and dialogue immediately before this song to build up to it. Also while watching this movie (if they do) unsure if some subtleties will be lost on them such as the ability to pick up what touches are Hindu and what touches are Muslim (and how both eventually blended to create the uniquely Indian essence of the great Mughal)
