I'll miss the 9th edition starter set, but this is better starter for the newbies compared to that box
For complete beginners this one is much better for sure.
I have known about the existence of Warhammer 40k for more than 15 years and I have always found it a very complex hobby (especially the painting part) but a few weeks ago I started seeing tiktoks of people painting their miniatures and it really blows my mind the level of skill that collectors have in painting the miniatures.
I started looking around for products and found that the 10th edition just came out and it looks like this introductory set is just a great starting point... Great video!! it's really convincing me to buy it although I'm still a little skeptical of my painting skills lol
Just have a go mate. It won't be beautiful the first few attempts, but new paint formulas are much more forgiving than the enamels and stuff you might have tried as a kid.
Pretty good set for totally new players - the first hit isn't free, but it's a fairly decent price point to get them hooked!
GW have some pretty bad practices for sure.
Hi there lads, just wanted to say *thank you* for this quick review of the "beginners beginner-kit", been thinking about trying my hands on both some painting and playing and was looking for a quick review of this low level starter kit, and this video delivered exactly that, three thumbs up :)
Our pleasure!
Great video, my son is looking to get into warhammer and it's his birthday soon so this looks like a great set to get him started and not a huge amount to invest if he doesnt like it!
Glad to be of service
I played 40k up to 3rd edition (the Dark Eldar/Space Marines box). Dabbled in 4th and 5th Edition but stopped after that. My youngest son’s interested now and we got this box. Almost painted the 5 marines and gearing up for the Nids now. 40k is still reassuringly expensive but we’ll build and paint as we go (when I was a GW staffer I had mountains of unpainted stuff as discounts were good back then!)
I bought this for my 7 year old twins and they love it. Just trying to wrap my head around playing it. And yeah they are push fit
It's a great way to start for sure.
An excellent starter set and cheap aswell
Yeah, for complete beginners I think it is great.
Thank you so much for this video. My son has been asking to play the game and this looks like the perfect set for him to start with.
Glad I could help!
they can't include glue in the boxed games because the glue has a habit of leaking.
True
Total beginner here just bought this set, wife finally let me 😂.
Good choice!
We have enjoyed starting on our 40k journey with this set, both painting and gaming, but for the game to go to next level of understanding, it's really difficult to know what to do and what to buy to build a father and son set of armies. I'll take Tyranids on and the son wants to build space marines, but we just don't know what to do about the next level of purchase or gaming play. The full core rules i know is major, but for the 11yr old is going to blow his mind, so any recommends? For now, we're starting to make up our own missions and rules but i think it would be fruitful to know how to expand collection and understanding of rules breakfast rather than trying to go full in just yet. The next step rules we need, have to be just right for kids to 'get it', which is especially true if we're going to get next generations into playing 40k, of which the appears to be a bit of a resurgence trending with the latest Ed 10 release.
Sadly you are exactly right - the step up to full rules is HUGE. I would suggest you scaffold the journey. Get hold of the codex your son's army and slowly add in the extra layers. It is actually a bit easier than you might think because these layers are sub-divided sections. Step one is just add a unit or two and just play with the datasheets. A few games down the line add in army specific rules. A few more games when you have those down pat start adding in other elements, maybe one strategy at a time so you learn how each of them work and it will make your games with the same miniatures play out differently each time. ALTERNATIVELY - just can 40k as a rules set because it is a bloated monster and play One Page Rules, which is entirely free, uses the same minis, and is way easier and quicker to play!
@@ModellingforAdvantage Thank you so much for your reply - I really appreciate it and it's so fun to play our really simple 40K starter version as a father + son and after a couple of months are ready to take on another step. I will indeed try and find and look at the One Page Rules you mention. As I said we're starting to make up our own rules now already, and making it up as we go along is fine, but I know that if he or I was to play any element of a game with others, our made up rules would be laughed at!? Oh well it's all about having fun playing a table top game isn't it!? Great channel BTW!
i'm surprised it comes with so many hoby tools, quite nice
You and me both!
So if I’m new new just getting into warhammer from playing darktides is this the way?
If you are completely new, and need the paints and tools, then this is probably the best starting place.
Can you use tamiya glue for these?
I used the Tamiya thin plastic glue myself, its fine.
No datasheets???
never had a interest in warhammer. but my art store had this on sale. so got it to try it out sometime now :)
hopefully it will be funsies! just need to not become one of the fans with 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 plastic dudes for 999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 dollar 😆 have a fantastic day!
Resist!
@@ModellingforAdvantage NEVER! 💃 i hope i have some extra time after work someday to check out the box more and the book. paint and play! :D
This look underwhelming
For established players I think this would be a poor choice; for a kid on holiday looking to start, I think its great.
Slightly yeah, but I found that if you want to bulk up your starter games with a few more minis, the Space Marine board game will net you a points total similar to the ones in the 9th edition recruit box.
If not this product, what would you recommend to a person who wants to start collecting Warhammer figures?
@@Tamarizz If you can't talk yourself out of it, and your money ISN'T burning a hole in your pocket, then I'd recommend the starter set.
There's enough variety for value in terms of minis and if you aren't picky about what factions you end up with.
