If you want to bump up the pumpkin flavor for anything pumpkin, place the pumpkin inti a non stick frying pan, cook and stir to a) drive off more moisture and b) the pumpkin is slightly caramelized . Makes an amazing difference in your pumpkin bread....took me from a red ribbon to best of class at the County fair.
Sandra - caramelized pumpkin? WOW! Sounds DEEE-LISH! Congratulations on your win! How long would you advise to cook the pumpkin? Is there a sign that tells you when you've long enough? Thank you! Enjoy your day!
0:45 John... I was such in a horrible mood today until...your laughter made my day! Thank you thank you!😊 Your scones and your brightness will brighten my rest of the day.🙏
I made these. They were delicious topped with Maple flavored icing. I didn't have pumpkin pie spice so added 1 t ground ginger, 1/4 t cardamom, 1/4 t allspice, 1/4 t nutmeg and 1/8 t cloves. It was just right. Mom said I should up the cinnamon to 2 t; she likes a lot of cinnamon. I'll definitely make them again. Thanks for all the great recipes!
I've never liked any pumpkin scone I've tried, but I decided to make these for my dad. THEY ARE SO GOOD. I love these so much. I will make them again and again.
I will make these after making the pumpkin muffins. Me and my 16 yo son are not a pumpkin person. I made your pumpkin cake and pumpkin bread and oh my God my son loves both he ate it he is a picky kind. It’s a miracle lol Thank you John ! I’m obsessed with your recipe!😅
Wow. I made these yesterday and they are the best pumpkin ANYTHING I’ve ever tasted. I iced them the Starbucks way and it was a perfect amount of sweetness & spice. Thank you for sharing this! 💓💓💓
Pumpkin scones have never really appealed to me until now, but you sold me at crystallized Ginger! These look so good, I'm definitely going to be trying these soon.
My daughter and I had so much fun making these scones. She loves watching your videos and thanks to you she loves baking. Step by step instructions are wonderful. THANK YOU!
I went to my favorite bakery the other day, and she had pumpkin scones that had pumpkin filling layered into the scone. Next level deliciouseness! The scone itself was not made from pumpkin and there was no frosting. Just a pumpkin spice concoction sprinkled on top. My goal is to replicate these because they are to die for!
All I need is the cream for this recipe. I made your pumpkin bread which was absolutely delicious and your pumpkin cookies that my sister thought came from a bakery! I've made several of your recipes and each turned out excellent.
These scones turned out FANTASTIC!!! Definitely better than Starbucks! And I loved their scones! They didn’t release them this year so I tried my hand in these …. And my gosh!!!! ❤❤❤❤
John I am making these right now and had the oven going for about 45 mins then you said to chill for 20-30 mins haha they are now chilling and almost done!
I watched the video last night, made these this morning. I have 2 comments. First: These scones are UH-mazing!!. AND second. Thanks for my new favorite word......Star-bees! I've made a lot of scones and these are now at the top of my list. Trying your other scone recipes really soon.
Seasonal perfection! Thank you. Just purchased your book at Barnes and Noble as it was highlighted in their weekly member newsletter. Next should be the Preppy Kitchen cruise...
Got mine all prepped and in the freezer to bake them tomorrow morning. I’m a fellow Virgo but couldn’t get the shape of mine nearly as perfect as yours!
I've been making scones forever. I use a recipe that the author instructed to grate frozen butter. That was too annoying for me so I grate butter from the fridge on a box greater onto a plate. I then cover it and freeze solid. I find it easy to work into the flour.
Oh man I made the pumpkin donuts and they were awesome. Piping the batter in the pan was the hardest part👌👌I love scones so I guess these will be next so let’s turn on the coffee pot and get started🥣
Just received your spiral bound book, love it and can't wait to get started on autumn recipes. it has a special place on its stand on my counter. These scones are top on my list.
These are very good, made them for my hubby. Next time he wants me to put cinnamon chips in them. Update: made these a second time using gluten free flour and Country Crock plant based butter with avocado oil. Also added cinnamon chips. Perfect!
@@sarayagonzalez5374 I used King Arthur Measure for Measure in the same amount as John's recipe. I've always been able to sub it equally in any recipe that calls for all purpose flour.
I tried this recipe and as usual, you make it look SO EASY! It wasn't as easy as it looked and mine did not look as good but tasted great. One issue I had was storing them in an airtight container, they ended up getting all moist on top melting the icing. How can I avoid this next time? Thanks!
Great video, John. Having said that, and after 36 years as a professional cook, I am kind of "over " the whole pumpkin spice rage...there are so many other fall fruits and vegetables which kind of get dismissed in favor of pumpkin, and pumpkin spice (though Butternut and Acorn squash are appearing more frequently in the past few years.) What other "Fall" flavors are you fond of, and wish got more traction during the Fall baking season? Would love to get your personal suggestions for something other than pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg :)
Hey John! I've been loving these fall recipes. Scones were one of those things that I used to make for breakfast or brunch when I wanted to serve something nicer and slightly sweeter than biscuits, but less sweet than or didn't have time to make muffins, used to put mini chocolate chips in the pumpkin scones. Crystalized ginger would be perfect. I think that draining the pumpkin puree if you roast (or steam🤷) your own fresh pumpkin puree a screen sifter over a bowl for at least 15 minutes is probably a good idea.
Hi John from sunny Los Angeles! :D Love your Channel! So many delicious and yummy recipes and desserts!!! I'm not much of a cook or baker, but would love to try your recipes out. Any plans for a restaurant or bakery chain? Hint, hint ;) #CustomerHere Also, I'm a big tea drinker, with my favorite being Chai. I love the kick of the cinnamon/cloves/cardamom/pepper spice it has. Do you feature any Chai desserts - Chai bundt cake, Chai loaf, Chai cookies (to eat/dip in Chai tea)? Keep up the amazing work!
I had some leftover pumpkin puree (libby's of course) so i found this trying to see what I could make with it. I've made scones before but was apprehensive about using puree (only made with fruit pieces before). They turned out bomb and tho ive never made glaze before, this also turned out pretty well
2 1/4 cup all purpose flour 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/2 cup pumpkin purée 1/2 cup heavy cream 1/4 cup light brown sugar 1 1/2 tsp vanilla 1 egg Into flour add stick of butter chopped and cold 400 20-25 mins
Oh yummy. I needed this calmness of the video after a rough afternoon. I'll try these scones, different from my pumpkin biscuits recipe I tried. You're great! Saw your new book at Target, it was exciting, like saying "oh I know him!" 😁
I made these scones and they were delicious!! Instead of putting milk in the icing, I put eggnog in it. It was delicious. Was wondering if you could come out with an eggnog scone for the Christmas season 🎄
Hey John, love your videos and recipes. Is there any substitute for pumpkin pie spice and purée? If not, what would be the difference or taste difference without them?
You answered my question-indirectly! lol I won't use my frozen butter for this recipe. Might make it a little too difficult. Mmmm. Can't wait to try these.
I Love pumpkin scones! Love your channel. Every time I watch you making delicious delights and your great banter you make me feel better instantly! I just ordered your book and can’t wait to read it and try a recipe. Does your husband catch the containers you scoot out of the way? Love that by the way. Congratulations in your success.
Hi John! Please help! Could I use milk instead of cream in the recipe? I only ask because I have no cream in the house and want to make these in the morning and I have everything else! (It’s 9.30pm here now in the UK) thanks in advance x🇬🇧💕x
I really love all of your recipes. Do you have a recipe for your pumpkin pie spice. I make my own every year but I would like to know what you put in yours. Thank you

Every time someone says "cut into pieces" I think "Cut my life into pizzas, this is my plastic fork". These scones look super yummy.

Pumpkin scones have never really appealed to me until now, but you sold me at crystallized Ginger! These look so good, I'm definitely going to be trying these soon.
Seriously, I am 100% making these. I love ginger! I made an apple crisp with crystallized ginger last year and loved it
I made them today, and oh my god! They are so tender inside and slightly crispy outside, with a nice kick from the spices. Yum!
My daughter and I had so much fun making these scones. She loves watching your videos and thanks to you she loves baking. Step by step instructions are wonderful. THANK YOU!
hi,i am the fan of not only of your delicious desserts but also of the style you speak 😀😀
I made these scones as a holiday gift. My dad loved it!! Thank you
i love everything pumpkin, bread, cake, muffins, cupcakes, scones, pie.....John, love the new book, it's just like your recipes.... outstanding 👌😉

Love to bake, but have always avoided scones. I think I will give these a try, they look sooo good.

I'm going to make these! You're the Best John, my Favorite Chef/Baker 🙏🏼❤
Made the pumpkin doughnuts a few days ago, and they were fantastic! Looking forward to baking these soon!

Coarse sugar over the cream on top is delicious and a lil crunchy
Yummmm the idea of crystalized ginger , I've got to try that
Fall is one of my favorite seasons and pumpkin is my favorite fall flavor to bake. Can’t wait to try these, I love scones!!🥰
