This is exactly why Hunchback of Notre Dame was Lon Chaney's passion project. Most of his family was deaf, and it was the only story he knew with a deaf main character; he wanted that representation for them.
I saw the show Friday night, and it was absolutely phenomenal. If anyone is watching this video, but aren't sure if they want to actually see the show or not, do it. The acting is superb, the singing is wonderful, and the incorporation of signing in this show was done masterfully. Joshua Castille was a perfect cast for his role, as was everyone else. I 100% recommend seeing this production before it leaves the 5th.
I’m so, so excited for this. Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of my favorite musicals of all time, and as a Hard of Hearing person who has also been performing in theatre for thirteen years, seeing a Deaf actor playing such an iconic character is soooo important. I want to see this so badly.
Learning about this show and seeing the clips of him as Quasi has really inspired me to learn ASL - and I'd love to meet him someday and tell him so! 😀😀
I am so in love with him!! He was amazing in Deaf West's Spring Awakening. I'm so glad he is getting all of this work. He definitely deserves all of it. Such and incredible actor!!
If you guys ever wanna expand the show to other theaters, please visit Europe! I would love to see the production with Joshua in the lead (or shows with sign language in general)
I would love to see the show. I live very far away but to see the performance you gave really got me very emotional, this is one of my favorite stories. And when in school we put up a show with the theater group. And it was an amazing experience. Now almost 18 years later I'm very joyful with your interpretation. Is amazing... Huge hugs from Chile
Please please can someone tell me if there’s a way I can see this show??? Surely they recorded it if there’s such incredible clips of the performance?? I would pay good money for a disk of this play. As a deaf individual it really resonates with me.
