salma is beautiful and can play the role of a romani woman well, but i do wish she would have had more expression while dancing. as a roma woman, we tell a story through dance and both hand movement and facial expression is very important. it’s not about looking mysterious and sexy, it’s about opening your heart and laying it all on the table in dance. especially because the roma’s dancing originated from young girls trying to feed their families, so they always had a lot of passion in their storytelling. the more passionate = more money, unfortunately.

As a Mexican, I can say Frida is one of the best movies I’ve watched. The movie it’s pure art from beginning to end. And she’s a better dancer than what we see here. But that’s the director’s and choreographer’s fault not hers.
