To be honest, Steppenwolf did his job. He was going up against 5 super beings with c class help. Steppenwolf did such a good job that the heroes needed a literal redo. If Darkseid and crew wanted him to do better, instead of complaining like some bitches they should offered him better help than flying insects. Steppenwolf did not run or complain in the end, he stood on business and paid the price. Nobody can say he didn't do what he set out to, or that he didn't give his all.

When he is pissed and stops caring he can punch hard enough to shatter whole galaxies. Keep in mind so long as Superman is in atmo on a planet he has to hold back or risk destroying it. And this movie should be like the infinity war considering Thanos is a literally ripoff character of darkseid so why not. But the thing is jack Snyder didn't finish the movie. And had some family tragedy going on at that time. So he had to leave the project. He told WB that he would finish the whole project once he returns. But WB signed another marvel director and they proceeded to shoot the movie and made it so short that it was horrible to watch. Not only that they wanted to edit the raw scenes and make it like a funny marvel movie instead of a dark DC movie. Because of that movie flopped badly and the fans demanded that they would rather watch unedited jack Snyder version of the movie rather than their own released studio movie.
Unfortunately, Marvel had the spotlight with CBMs and DC (especially anything Snyder) got put down. Now there will never be conclusion to this epic tale. Instead, the movies will just keep getting the tiring, overly comedic movies we've dealt with since Disney arrived.
