Zac Oyama crouching in the corner on the phone - "Yeah, it's gonna be late."
After seeing both versions of this sketch, I think Zac Oyama trying to get work done and not interrupt the band it just a touch funnier.
Any one here after watching Dropout’s Make Some Noise😂✋
looks like we had the same thought at exactly the same time
I had no idea what NPR's Tiny Desk meant, so I decided to check out the sketch. I feel like Dropout had a funnier take on it.
Same here 😂 I was going to post “Dropout did it first!” That was such a good episode too I was dying the whole time. No problem 😊
LMAO yup
Dropout was much funnier. Perhaps this is too highbrow for my sense of humor…😂😂😂
I worked at NPR and saw over a hundred Tiny Desks. Beyond the detail some inside nods here suggest that someone who wrote this sketch must’ve worked at NPR
can you share what the details and inside nods youve noticed? how many 35 year old interns from SUNY Newark wanting to start a podcast about queerness and AI are there haha
Please say more!
Elaborate!!!
Pretty much every tiny desk, javaun would jump out of a side door and tell, like, sting and shaggy to keep the ruckus down.
Bro thinks It’s Glass and Terry Gross are “inside nods”
Guess he wasnt ready to hear them...MAKE...SOME...NOISE
LOL. As a former NPR employee, I can also confirm that this is spot-on. Musicians using quirky instruments for the stripped down sets, employees complaining about the noise, and newbies trying to "find their voice," but basically emulating Ira Glass. And yes, there were 30+ year-old interns. Also, props to the set design team, y'all nailed all the details!
The emulating of Ira Glass was spot on
what a terrible establishment then. stop doing these things! please
@@bigseanprice What a weird thing to get so upset about
@@Greanestbean He obviously has a problem with NPR. Average Fox News viewer, I'm guessing.
Apart from the exceptional NPR mics 👌
The cellist playing milk carton was absolutely crushing it. 🔥
I love the idea that a cello, already an acoustic instrument, was still too much for their TDC
Drummer crushed the facial hair - stash & beard!
Too many people take a really good milk cartonist for granted.
@@chasbodaniels1744YES!
@chasbodaniels1744 I think cigarettes ruined the carton game.....and millions of lives, but the carton makers suffered also
Here after Make Some Noise
"What do we owe each other," is taking the NPR vibe to 11.
Scanlon
I think they owe make some noise quite a lot in regards to this sketch.
As an NPR employee, let me just say...yeah. This this is exactly what it's like.
Same, I had visceral flashbacks to the tiny desk noise complaint emails from 4th floor
Why do they have concerts at npr? I don’t get it
@@deviction9314because people like music
@@sumnersvensson7237 I get that part, but I don’t get why they have them in offices where employees complain I guess they don’t like music then lol
As a fan of Jeezy he needs a redo
Who's here from Dropout after Zac beat this sketch on The Noise Boys?
I am!
What does these words mean
@@broncotrolly on the streaming platform Dropout (formerly Collegehumor), there is a show called Make Some Noise. It came from another show called Game Changer, where cast members would participate in a game show that was different every time and the contestants would have to figure it out by playing. One of the games was played by Brennan Lee Mulligan, Josh Ruben, and Zac Obama. They have been referred to as the noise boys because they did three episodes together of impressions. Two were before Make Some Noise became its own thing. Zac was given a similar prompt to the snl sketch on a recent episode and they had a disclaimer that they filmed before the SNL episode.
@@broncotrolly comedic content better than anything that was on this video

i have no idea who's signature is on that red solo cup, but i hope it's the set designer because this set went CRAZY 👏👏👏
Right??
You can tell they really enjoyed making this one!
I kept thinking about how many items were on that set and how difficult it must be to move it onstage and offstage.
They went for it
I'm sure they put the Bruce Dickinson (famed producer of Don't Fear the Reaper) book on top of the stack intentionally

Bowen doing ira Glass is my favorite thing tonight.
Love this tiny desk sketch bowen 's NPR voice was prefect 😂.
Right?! It's Ira Glass, Sabrina Tavernise and Phoebe Judge rolled into one. The cadence of rushing your words and then slowing down again... Chef's kiss
My high school teacher was an employee at NPR before working at my (very rural) high school. He was very gay, very flamboyant .honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had . This was uncanny. The only thing missing is him being fashionably late to 1st period and him walking in dressed all spiffy waving with two hands and an iced coffee saying "hellooo everybodyyyyy. Sorry I'm late!! ".
Sounds like… the best human being in the United States 💕
Which is it… waving with 2 hands or carrying an iced coffee
This set design is insanely accurate for just a 5 minute sketch. Much respect to the SNL crew!
Set decorations folks must be NPR fans!
Yesss! For a second I thought it was at the real location, lol
It’s almost like it’s a nationally famous show with a huge budget parodying a non-profit radio network. Who’d have thunk?
@@TeddScheckler A huge budget doesn't mean anything if no one knows what to do with it. The details here are amazing.
@@TeddScheckler Damn. You seem like you'd be fun at parties. lol
Shout out to set designers! Can be so underappreciated!
The setup for this with all the props and set decorations must have been insane to achieve in a quick turn around. The shelf contents don't just looked slapped together, but very natural "displaying stuff but also gradual storage build-up of stuff".
Peak design
I mean, they’d have had a couple days to build it and decorate it, so not that quick a turnaround.
@@thatboybear But it's not like it was a standing set or one of the opening skits where it could be set up in advance. It would still have to break down and be stowed back stage to one degree or another. And then moved and reset (with all the stuff on the shelves readjusted, fixed, stacked, etc) between other skits/performances.
@@The2ndQuestI’m willing to bet their sound stage is big enough to house several pre-set scenes for their skits. It’s a one hour show shot live; there’s no way they’re actually setting up and tearing down every set mid-show. That’s not how professional productions work.
@@thatboybear And most of their sets are modular for that purpose, I'm sure. They just usually do not have the crazy amount of props requiring placement by hand.
They only have 3-4 stages free for sketch sets, I think (the other 2-3 are for music guests, monologue, Weekend Update, etc), and some are probably built in front of others to reuse the space.
But the overall point is that, with all those prop placements, it's not something that can just be moved into place easily, or broken down into a few segments. Even if it was partially set up behind another set in advance, there's still an above average amount of work for something that was put together in a day or two at most.
SNL should donate the milk carton shaker to the actual tiny desk!
There's recycling, upcycling, and now cycling it forward.
Here to add to the Make Some Noise chorus 🎉🎉🎉
This sketch gave me a new appreciation for the SNL set designers. They NAILED the desk. I'm 90% sure they borrowed some of the props.
That was the BEST Ira Glass "This American Life" voice impression
When Bowen called out that “Tiny” Desk, I felt seen.
That's how you know they're fans there. 😆

It used to be tiny before OKGO helped them move to this less tiny desk 😂

"Your body is good but your mind! is! bad!" LMAOOOOO
SUNY Newark is a very funny inside joke. SUNY is the State University of New York system. Newark is in New Jersey.
It's a bit of a twist on how Newark is considered basically NYC, I guess. Like Newark Airport being considered one of NYC's airports.
Not really an inside joke
@@anahata2009I do so technically that's someone, lol
It's a really funny joke made funnier when you explained it, even funnier when someone pointed out that a lot of people think Newark is part of NY, funnier still when someone else said nobody really thinks Newark is part of NY it's just that the airport's close... Promptly dispensed by someone who admits they did indeed think Newark was in NY which made it funnier still 🤣I appreciate all of you! ❤❤❤
@@jjsingh04 I think some people consider Newark part of the greater NY metropolitan area because of all the people who commute in for work who live in Newark, which is also true of Hoboken, Jersey City, and Montclair but also true of parts of Westchester and Long Island and probably even Greenwich CT.

Did anyone else have a moment of confusion with the video thumbnail?! My brain was like, "wait, tiny desk but who's the band, and wait, SNL what... oh my god, yes!"
Haha yes exactly
Dropout's Make Some Noise did this same skit, not only first but better. They delivered everything SNL did in the same amount of time it took them to present the actual idea in the skit. Each actor in MSN clearly supports each other, each change made is to support the main actor. SNL's cast is fighting against each other the entire bit. This skit is about coherency and cramming in as many things as they can think of. It's fine to find this funny but it didn't really offer anything.
Man as much as I love dropout shit the fans are insufferable. Nobody needs to hear about how much better your sense of humor is than everything else. This isnt the first place I’ve seen their fans act like this. Just go enjoy the thing you enjoy

Ramy: *harassed all concert by him
Also Ramy: huge fan of the pod
Lmao lost it at that 😂
Fun fact: the name doesn’t refer to the size of the desk. It’s called a tiny desk concert because it is a tiny concert at a desk, not a concert at a tiny desk
Thanks for clearing that up for me; I always thought it was because the music was so insignificant.
