  • FINALLY we have weather here in North Alabama conducive to painting a car. Lower than usual temps, very low humidity. I didn't think we'd get this until mid to late September in this area! 2 coats of SpeedKote epoxy sealer primer. I'm sure I made mistakes, I usually do. But after sanding the entirety of the car, that had been stripped, with 150 and 180 grit 3M Cubitron disc, on my DA sander, I wanted to be sure to eliminate any possible invisible flash rust that may have occurred over the past couple months, after stripping. I used a BUNCH of new microfiber cloths, and 99% alcohol, to clean the surfaces. It took 3 to 4 wipedowns for the cloths to come out clean. Let it sit overnight, then wiped it down with alcohol again this morning, followed by a full wipedown with Grease and Wax Remover. The Speedkote first coat was 4:1:1/2 , and it was textured. The spray gun was a Black Widow HVLP, with 1.7 tip. I started with about 20 psi, but didn't like the atomization, so I kicked that up to about 25. 2nd coat I used the same gun settings, but mixed the paint 4:1:1 , and I think the added 1/2 reducer gave a better, smoother result.
