Well damn. That's all Claude wrote. I clearly had my troubles with the end (most of which was the actual boss fights - not hard to guess why you didn't see much footage of them. They took forever and were rather repetitive.) but overall this game is one that will forever be marked down as a classic in my books. I started playing it as a joke and kept going for the great story and characters. Until next time, everyone.

The situation here is a tad different considering the threat of this weapon is enough for the empire to surrender. Unlike japan. Also if they blew it up, thats their only weapon, if used the empire will just recover and come back with a vengeance, the war would have been lost.

Also nuking the capital AFTER the ceasefire would just show them that they could expect no mercy even for the civilians, which would lead to the rest of the empire fighting till the last man. Also I don´t see how nuking the capital would even weaken them too much. The factories are likely decentralised and their leadership was already gone when the prince died. If anything destroying the resto f the empire leadership would make it impossible to make them surrender again, leading to a prolonged partisan fight and probably terrorism.

The probable reason why Kai takes in Angie is because ""officially"" Angie is Federation property and would not be free even after war's end, and Kai's involvement with Forseti would've had her executed for treason. To protect the pair of them, Kai was probably reported as KIA aboard the Centurion (which isn't too far from the truth, given Forseti died there), and both "his" body and Angie went down with the Centurion when it sank. With the top brass unable to reach the shipwreck and prove otherwise, Kai and Angie would be able to take up new lives and identities, and doing so together is convenient since Angie needs someone to look after her.

I don't think Rimmy gets that the very reason of the cease fire is the ship being in their capital.
So, they did do what Raz wanted, they ended the war, they just didn't detonate the nuke because there was no reason.
Also maybe the Emperor died all the way back in the first game thanks to Gallian forces(or what's left of them).
But maybe it's the ship, yeah.

@@captainangel1078 Still, Empire faced a major defeat in Gallia(The very reason they've started the war in the first place) and then Federation got into their capital. Makes sense.
The problem is that even in the other games they mention the cease fire never held and the war started again. So, had they actually fired the nuke, the war would have ACTUALLY been over. Instead they didn't, Empire licked it's wounds and tried again.

The sad thing is the nuke wouldn't have ended the war. It would have just pissed the empire off. After such a large warning, no way would the upper command of the Imperial Army still be there plus the Empire still has Valkyria that are trained soldiers. All it would have done was escalate the war. Basically, this war and how ww2 ended were completely different situations and I think a loli nuke would have had different results then Fat Man did.
The war wouldn't be over but it'd be lost. They would certainly split off into separate factions as multiple leaders look to take control, civil war amongst the generals would most definitely take place, the nation divided, and the federation would have a stable military. With the empire in a state of chaos the invaded populous would probably also revolt, don't forget those who are oppressed have no loyalty to the state, it'd be a clusterfuck, and if they steamrolled into the capital and killed everyone storming other places would probably not be as difficult
@@mrsaanes I don't think that would happen. Sure the capital would have been nuked but the empire is still fully operational. They are still pushing the federation back after the battle of the Siegval Line, and there would be no way the top command of the Empire would still be in the capital because they had so much warning of what was coming. True they might have lost if they had no way to retaliate back against that kind of weapon, but the Empire does. The Empire has Valkyria as well, as most of them seem to have been trained. Even if they mention that they are not as powerful as Crymaria and Selvaria. At the end of the day I think that instead of surrender or civil war breaking out, it would instead unite the empire with a burning hatred of the Federation even more and then they would start to use their own Valkyria's final fame in retaliation. Then it would be one big slaughter fest. To reference my first comment, unlike with Japan who had no choice but to surrender, The Empire has the exact same kind of bombs and the ability to use them on the Federation, so that's why I don't think the war would have ended if the capital was destroyed.

Nukes, you can drop out of a plane, so can be dropped on you pretty much without warning.
In this game, the Bomb's way bigger, and they don't have proper plane tech.
So you need to drive it Into the place.
So they can't be as effective a deterrent.
Nukes you can launch from missiles now, so you litterally can't stop them all.
Loli nukes, you can see coming, and try to stop the vehicle. Its not a 'I press this button and your city's gone'

Don't worry Rimmy Post-game, you can visit the Cenotaph, and, with sufficient DCT, resurrect any characters lost, even story deaths like Raz. However, Raz's revival comes with the unique condition that the player must finish the skirmish "Beneath the Frost" on Hard. After that, watch the unlocked Ch. 13 episode "Smells like Dad", to be able to revive Raz.

But Rimmy the nuke wouldn't kill the Empire, the leadership was long departed so there was only a somewhat empty city with civilians inside it. The Industry was still out eastwards and would only serve as a rallying cry for the Empire. (Not to mention i believe the game says part of the peace deal was the Empire not disclosing operation cygnus to the public).
Not to mention, it would have killed Crymaria and Walz.

There's even a DLC in VC 4 where he and the imps switch to fist fights cuz their guns froze up and didn't work so Cluade and the imp squad leader agreed to a ceasefire cuz the fist fight was getting them nowhere with a blizzard coming. I believe it was called a steamy ceasefire if I recall correctly

Does rimmy not know what surrender is? He’s spent the whole series going on about war crimes, but is perfectly fine with killing hundreds of civilians and attacking the enemy post-surrender. The distraction of the capital would just prolong the war, proving to the imperials that surrendering is not an option.

Uh, Rimmy, you do realize the Empire is bigger than one City right? In fact, if this is fantasy Moscow, then we know from experience that the Empire will willingly destroy THEIR OWN capital to stop invaders. Remember Napolean's march on Moscow? Didn't exactly end well for the invaders.
And from another perspective: If you were fighting in France during WW2 on behalf of the Allies and you heard that the Germans nuked Sydney exactly once, and couldn't do it again because they had lost their entire high-tech fleet in the process...would you surrender? Or would you go on a roaring rampage of revenge against the Nazis? Because the Empire's Armies are based IN Federation territory right now, and are winning the fight. So if you hit the Nuke after they offered peace there's no reason for them to NOT eat the remnants of the federation army alive.
Even putting aside the fact your killing a Child so you can kill a city full of children for wars they as children were only tangentially related in, this plan has a lot of holes. At least when America used the bombs they had already destroyed the Japanese Army, Navy, and Air arms and had the entire nation in a vice grip...and also had more than exactly 1 bomb.

Before watching this playlist, I'd never even heard of the Valkyria Chronicles series. But this has been one of the best video game stories I've ever seen. I'm definitely going to be buying it and playing it for myself.

And before someone points it out, yes, Ixa the Medi-Killer broke said guidelines by actively aiming for medics, still doesn't make it right to the same against the other side of the conflict. Besides, Ixa got his comeuppance.
On top of all of that, think about it. How many people died for you guys? Raz, Simon, Squad F, Jimmy. Maybe someone else. Are the lives of 3 men and one squad worth killing millions of innocent people who had nothing to do with their deaths?

EstGamer when you use surrender or ceasefire to put yourself in a position of military or combat advantage. Like a group of soldiers surrendered , the enemy comes to take them away, then the soldiers pull our guns or grenades to kill those soldiers now that they are out of cover.
You can’t betray the honor system of surrender or ceasefire. If you do you raise doubts on future surrenders or ceasefires and make the enemy likely to adopt, “Take no prisoners, kill them all policies” and make them justified in doing so

I legit nearly cried at that send-off. Call me a sap or what have you, but there was something very raw and emotional about the ending of this series. Dont forget the hard skirmishes, they unlock a few post game zones and characters plus a nice little story bundle or two that help flush out events and characters that beforehand might have lessened the impact of certain events on a first time playthrough

First World War: Around 16 million Deaths, around a million went missing and over 5 million Injured.
The Second World War overshadowed the Second Europan War.
also, this is the first video game voice dubbing I have heard that doesn’t make my ears hurt. on the contrary, it is impressive.
See, the nuke was a demoralizing weapon. It’s purpose wasn’t necessary to kill as many people as possible, but rather convince the enemy that they couldn’t win, that this was the precursor and if they don’t surrender, worse will happen. Japan wasn’t going to surrender, not until they realized what we could do. Blowing up a capital to destroy someone’s power will not do much if the damage done isn’t enough to demoralize the enemy. That, or it’s a Cold War mutual destruction, and no one wins.

Think about how Japan is 1/1000(random estimate) of US in terms of land and resources and military(after losing everything), I don't think they are stupid enough to still follow their values for a big lost.
Nukes didn't, US navy and airforce did the majority of the work, while the news of the rest of the Allies are now going after his ass were the final push for Hirohito. I mean, soviets stole all continental support from them in matter of months while british fleet was basically already on the way to break their back completly. Realisation of all of this was what brought it to the end. Nukes were just providing Hirohito an excuse to safe his face while doing so. As well as stay IN POWER(however nominal it may have seem to be from outside, japanese WOULD follow their emperor back then and even in the 60's that was quite a big leverage if needed) and face no punishment at all.
Actually, the Japanese were basically ready to surrender even before the nukes dropped, they were just holding out as long as possible in the hopes of getting more favorable terms. The nukes weren’t dropped because they had to be, it was a deliberate choice meant to demonstrate the US’ overwhelming power and superiority.
This series and game were one of the best ones i've ever saw.

A sinking ship will displace a ton of water, creating a vortex behind it. Basically all that water that was pushed out will come on top of you so there's no way you could swim out of it.

Well to be fair, they did demand a ceisefire because there was basically a nuke happy battleship on the market square of their capital.
This never fails to make me cry.
What I really liked about this game was also some of the more subtle things they snuck into it. Such as the assault tank used by the empire being a t-34. Your allies pretty much using the equivalent of Sherman tanks. And then the Imperial Capital Stage introduces the Prototype heavy tanks which are basically the Joseph Stalin heavy tank line is 2s.
Farewell, Rimmy. This ending really hit me. I felt hollow once it was finished, and I still feel a bit hollow rewatching it a year later. I don’t regret a single moment of it.

Yeah, he could have still survived if he'd gone down with the ship, but most likely not. Ships create a sort of whirlpool as they sink, sucking down unfortunate people in the water beside and directly above them.

Bro blowing up an entire city of civilians isn't good. That kid crying for his mom isn't evil. Raz's sacrifice was for his friends and for peace, not to blow up the entire city. His last words were "got a light?" not "blow up an entire city of civilians, levelling the land and causing it to be barren for generations, not to mention allowing the continuation of the use of children abducted from their homes to blow themselves up against their will"
Also, Walz would have died in the nuke explosion. And the war ended anyway, even without the nuke going off. In real life, there was evidence that pointed to Japan being willing to surrender after the threat of Russia joining the war, before they new about nuclear weapons. The dropping of the bombs was likely not necessary and only done as a show of power by the US to scare the Soviets. If Claude had pulled the switch, he would have ended countless lives for no reason, and breaking the ceasefire would be just as bad as the Empire doing so.
Also, I agree, Riley is the lowest tier waifu in the game.

Commmander 64 the empire is as big as Russia they’ll just say “They killed our emperor fight to avenge him” or it’ll just break into several smaller nations who hate the federation enough to go to war but only this time each empire wanna be countries will fight using their own styles and technology
